Here's more information in response to your question earlier as to
advantages of Silverlight over Flash.

This interesting project:

<http://visitmix.com/Labs/Gestalt/>

makes it so you can do include some Javascript they provide on a web
page, and then, if the person browsing has Silverlight or Mono, do this:

<script type="text/ruby">
...ruby code...
</script>

or this:

<script type="text/python">
...python code...
</script>

This is cool, however I must admit I am somewhat mystified as to how it
actually does this.

Why not take this 30 day break, if it lasts 30, to put good things about
Linux out there?

Flash is not good since it's proprietary, but at least it support many
platforms even if it can be a long delay until they all are up to the same version.

But Silverlight is under total control of Microsoft, so it's up to them
who can use the contents and features, and right now they will put a bit
more shine on the windows platform then others by expanding it.

Well, you don't think I'm right maybe, but just wait another year and
see if your mac can handle all silverlight contents, clip board, webcam,
printing, dialer and so on.

And linux with mono, it's doomed to fail, after much work when it at last
will work, Microsoft will instantly add new things that don't work, and
in the end all silverlight contents will be under DRM and impossible to
access with any open systems anyway.

The only thing that will work for us is open formats, but as long the
media industry has DRM options for the biggest market they will refuse
to publish their contents in open formats.

If we all refused DRM together as a group of Internet users _we_ should
have an advantage, instead of looking for advantages in applications.

Except that most of Snit's posts were off topic crap, as testified by
these 132 posters on the Snit Circus of Pathological Lies:

1- Adam Kesher: "Steve, IIRC Sandman's website has a member area and a
login. If you forget your password, you can ask it to e-mail it to
you, and a bot will send an e-mail. *That* is the e-mail Snit got
from Sandman's website, and yes he's that fucked in the head and
starved for attention that he'd claim it to be an e-mail from Sandman
himself. So, don't get sucked into his little circus. The e-mail, in
this particular instance, did probably originate from Sandman.net."

To bad really. That way the industry will keep ramming broken products
down our throaths.

I stopped buying CDs when publishers started to rape the format in
favour of hazy copy protection schemes. It is still my right to make
back-up copies and to make sure I can listen to the music on any of my
devices.

I did the same thing with DVDs when publishers started to implement
stuff such as RipGuard (which also violates the format's
specifications.

I now download my music and movies, and the industry has to thank
itself for that.

To satisfy my need to physically own music, I started collecting
second hand vinyl again.

Well, they will offer them and people will use them. People look to see
what works for them *now*, not thinking what the consequences are for the
industry. There are some people who this is different for - many of the
Linux desktop users use Linux based on philosophical reasons, *not*
technical or because it works better for them. There are signs, as desktop
Linux improves, that this might be changing... though I suspect we are still
a while away from seeing people in any great numbers use desktop Linux
because of its functionality.

How many people do you know who do that? I assume there must be some level
of backlash from it... hence the reason the iTunes store went to DRM free.
It really is one of the great success stories in that area.
