Hey, I second that... I wish the trolls would stop spewing their jealous
rages in a public forum.
I have been making a point to mock those who spew clearly false accusations
against me... if they thought they could back them up it is clear they
would. They would try *anything* to back up their accusations. But none
have even tried... other, I guess, than HPT's sad and pathetic attempts
where his own hand picked examples were of him and his trolling buddies
doing wrong and me *not*!
Tim Adams just gave up and denied he had even made his accusations. And
then, being the fool he is, he made the same accusations again, even called
them "facts" and then *again* denied he had made the accusations at all.
What the? Is he really that lost? Well, clearly he is.
So now we know: the trolls who are accusing me of all sorts of BS do not
believe their own claims. They know they are lying, or - at best - know
they cannot back up their claims (and most would be trivial to back up if
true).
Of course, above you blame me - because I respond to their BS. Why? Why
not focus on their insane and clearly dishonest accusations?

I second the motion!
Ha! Good luck with that.
I agree completely, but some people can't resist. It's best to killfile
snit, and if you can, set up a filter to kill any responses to snit. Or
(as I've been forced to do) killfile those who insist on responding to
him. Yes, you do miss some advocacy from some of those people, but the
joy of not seeing snit or any responses to him far outweighs the cost.
Of course, snit also uses sockpuppets. They are pretty easy to identify
fortunately and are easily killed as well. I also killfile Zara and all
it's sockpuppets. Due to it's low level of literacy, it's very easy to
identify when it nym-shifts.
No one is forcing you to stay. No one is forcing you to read Snits posts.
Excellent. Please join in on this Tim Adams, Steve Carroll, HPT, Sandman...
I would love it if you would!

Heck, just killfile them and my responses to them.

I do? Who? I never noticed. Oh, wait... I do not. You made that up.

Come on... I *want* you and Sandman and Carroll and Adams and HPT to *stop*
trolling CSMA. While Fa-goon used poor wording and blamed me, who cares -
he and I have the same goal - end the absurd trolling in CSMA. Sure, I

Hey - do not discourage him. Sure, his wording, in blaming me, is
absurd... but his goal is excellent - end the BS battles in CSMA. Now that
I have proved those who spew accusations against me do not even believe

is what they will do.
Let it end. Please.

This sort of appeal has been made before. It never works. Your best bet
it to killfile Snit, and set up a filter on the References header to
killfile all replies to his posts as well.
This isn't quite as good as the entire thing just going away, because
the fact that the Snit Circus screws up the group for people who don't
have these filters presumably has a negative impact group-wide. I rather
suspect the intensity of the Circus is a substantial contributing factor
to CSMA's general decline. But what can you do?

You can tell those who lie to *stop*. You can make it clear that every time
someone shows they do not want to talk about Macs and technology but instead
wants to make personal attacks that such behavior is not acceptable.
You cannot stop them, but you can let them know that you are not fooled by
their BS.
It is worth a try.

It does.
A while back you pondered how many folks read CSMA but don't post. There
may be quite a few: I'm one of them. I used to post a fair bit (under my
real name at one time, but I decided that was unwise at a certain
point).
I've always been interested in Mac advocacy, having bought my first Mac
(a Mac Plus) in 1987 while I was in university. The difference between
that machine and the crappy DOS boxes everyone else was using were
absolutely monumental.
I have been reading and occasionally posting to CSMA for a long time
now, since 1995 at least. There have always been trolls and morons, but
I've never seen anything quite so disruptive as the Snit circus. Snit
will *never* back down or stop, and neither will most of his opponents.
A good kill file is your only hope.

Makes sense. Look at how those who lie about others have lashed out against
me.

I generally respond to those who openly lie about me... though not always.
Recently I have been showing, conclusively, that even when they are taunted
and mocked and their failures are shoved in their faces, they cannot find
examples of what they accuse me of.
And I have been proved right.
So now that it is clear that HPT, Carroll, Adams, and others are trolling
and lying when they make accusations they cannot support, why not call them
on their lies. Encourage others to.
They thrive on chasing others away from discussions and claiming that their
absurd and insane coalitions are correct because of some insane "groupthink"
they insist they have achieved (as shown by Steve's obsessively scavenged
and fabricated quote collection).
They know they cannot support their accusations. If you read the inane back
and forth, you know it, too.

We shouldn't forget that the function of this ng is to act as a troll
net of sorts for the real Mac newsgroups.
That said... to me, the real question here is: What is the group, as a
group, willing to do about it? The answer appears to be: Nothing but
whine about it.
The Wintrolls are right about one thing... there is unquestionably a
Maccie double standard when it comes to a troll that is a Mac advocate
(as opposed to a Wintroll) and Snit is their best proof. If you recall
how this ng handled John when he started telling lies about people,
computer platforms, etc., he would immediately get scores of replies
challenging his BS. This prevented him from being able to publicly
proclaim his innocence and be taken seriously by anyone other than a
troll. Snit has never had this due to the existence of the Maccie
double standard.
It's a fact that, in Snit's mind, he still thinks he has an audience
that believes he isn't engaging in the poor behavior everyone has
already commented on (he's *that* secure that he isn't really being
challenged, either that, or he really is severely mentally ill). The
point here is that the confrontations don't rain down on Snit like
they did for John every single time he tried his crap. John quickly
admitted to being overwhelmed... unable to respond to so many people.
The bottom line is... the group (*as* a group) just isn't willing to
treat Snit, who is far worse than John ever was, in the same fashion.
This Maccie double standard has greatly contributed to the downfall of
this group. Like it, or not... as I said long ago: You take Snit...
you take all that goes with him.
The notion that everything would be better if *more* people replied to
Snit is utterly ludicrous. The solution to this problem is precisely the
opposite, but you appear to enjoy enabling Snit too much to ever admit
this.
Why not call Steve Carroll on his lies and accusations? You merely feed his
trolling when you respond to him and do not call him on them.

I've done that. It's not the that I'm bugged by the Snit posts and responses
to Snit per se, its that they make up such a huge percentage of the posts in
this group - all out of proportion to their importance or meaning.

Nothing except to appeal to saner heads to cease and desist in getting into
pissing contests with this guy. They ought to know by now that engaging him
is fruitless, more than fruitless, it's utterly futile.
Snit is clearly insane and this newsgroup is his life. The sooner he
dies, the better. We have enough crazies running around.

The only way to stop them is to call the liars on their lies. Quote their
lies back to them. Shove their lies in their face and let them know that
such lying is not acceptable.

I will respond, when I want, to those who lie about me. And if you and
others would call them on their lies, then they would stop. They thrive on
driving people away so that they feel they "won".
When you do not point the blame where it belongs you feed them. That is
worse than not commenting at all.

In your opinion... this, despite the fact that the evidence shows it
worked very well (and quickly) with John, the only other poster who
was, for a brief period, almost as prolific a liar/poster as Snit is
now.
> The solution to this problem is precisely the
> opposite, but you appear to enjoy enabling Snit too much to ever admit

Besides pushing an unrealistic idea that can never happen in an
unmoderated newsgroup, you're laboring under a false premise. Were it
just Snit and myself you might actually have a point by singling me
out the way you have done here (and in the past) as all the reader
would need to do is kill file both of us.
You're pretty new here, but you're not the first person to post a
thread noting how the SNit Circus has ruined, or is ruining the group.
I agree with you, of course, knowing full well that me taking Snits
troll bait indeed helps escalate the Snit Circus.
But you should also know that Mac advocacy is probably a dying
occupation so to speak. The Mac is better than Windows, the iPhone is
better than other mobile phone. Most of the more vocal Windows
*advocates* (as opposed to trolls) have left this group long ago. They
lost and they know it. All they're left with now is the old "bullet
points on a spec sheet" game and that will always be around as a last
resort I guess.

If you use a good newsreader (don't know much HogWasher) you can
killfile the Snit Circus completely with these two filters:
kill if "Message-ID" contains "galloppinginsanity.com"
kill if "References" contains "galloppinginsanity.com"
He has used this host pretty consistently lately. Eaerlier killfiling
him was a bit trickier. This won't killfile any of his sock puppets,
of course. I don't know if he's currently has any, but he has used
plenty in the past.
