突然之間，台灣有許多人都變成了文字學家，而且是那種祇會望字（並非望文）生義的文字學家。
內政部長江宜樺日前被問到第四次「江陳會」的維安問題時，他的回答是：「希望大家把江陳會看成是兩岸進展的合理溝通機制」，「慢慢的所有人都
會習慣，我們在台灣島上，會有類似這樣的活動出現」。
江宜樺的回答有錯嗎？有！「文字學家」逮到的錯誤是他用了「台灣島上」這四個字。他們的解讀是：說「台灣島」，就是「把台灣弄得那麼小，祇是
一個島」，這是「馬政府官員內心深處已把台灣自我矮化」，並且讓「台灣主權一步一步消失」。
一個「島」字，竟然有那麼深奧的含意，甚至還成了那麼大的罪狀，大概連政治學博士江宜樺都沒想到吧？
「文字學家」甚至還拿馬英九說的「台灣地區」，以及吳伯雄說的「台灣島內」，來作對比，並且消遣馬英九從台灣區的「區長」又變成了台灣島的
「島主」。
但「台灣島」這樣的用語，有那麼罪大惡極嗎？如果依此類推，民進黨常掛在嘴邊的那個神聖符號「美麗島」是否也有自我矮化之嫌？否則同樣一個
「島」，何以此有罪而彼無罪？再類推下去，難道有人說台灣是個「島嶼國家」也是錯誤的？早年搞黨外運動的人都爭相閱讀高立夫（Ralph
Clough）寫的《島嶼中國》（Island China），為什麼那個年代沒有人把「島」或「島嶼」當成是貶抑之詞？或視之為矮化主權的同義
詞？
可以想見的是，如果江宜樺以「台灣國」取而代之「台灣島」這三個字，那些聞島而色變的「文字學家」，不但不會在立法院通過對他的譴責案，說不
定還會通過褒揚案，肯定他提高台灣主權。
當然，「文字學家」這幾天最大的發現是：馬英九果然暴露了他是「終極統一論者」的真面目。
馬英九在接受《華爾街日報》訪問時，有段話是這樣說的：「兩岸能否如大陸所期待的達成統一，端視未來數十年情勢的發展，目前這個階段無人能回
答這個問題」。
馬英九這段話有錯嗎？有！「文字學家」逮到的錯誤是他用了「數十年」（decades）這個字。他們的解讀是：「數十年情勢發展」這句話，證
明「馬英九在逐步遂行他內心的終極統一論」，這是否定並消滅中華民國，涉及對國家不忠，不配再當總統，也證明他三不政策中的「不統」根本就是假話。
但如果「文字學家」願意下點工夫逐字推敲的話，他們應該發現，「未來數十年」之前還有一句「能否如大陸所期待的達成統一」這樣的話，如果馬英
九說的是「能否如我所期待的」，或是「能否如我們所期待的」達成統一，那他被扣上「終極統一」的大帽子是罪有應得，但「文字學家」卻顯然故意視而不見
「能否如大陸所期待的」這句話。
更何況，馬英九在同篇訪問中還講了另外兩句話：「中國大陸的人民，不太瞭解我的政策（指「三不政策」），他們不瞭解為什麼我們不希望統一」，
「但是做為這個國家的總統，我相信在台灣的兩千三百萬人民，都希望能確保一個或兩個世代的和平與繁榮，可以讓台灣海峽兩邊的人，能夠有足夠的時間與自由
去互相瞭解與欣賞，並決定該做什麼」。
「文字學家」祇注意到「數十年」（decades）這個字，卻忽略了「一個或兩個世代（generations）」這個字，一個世代通常可長
達百年，但「文字學家」卻祇見到短的decades，而未見到更長的generations，可見馬英九即使是個統一論者，他的統一時間表也祇是個遙遙
無期的時間表。
馬英九的兩岸政策速度太快幾近暴衝，這是事實；他在涉外事務上過度傾向中國，也是事實；但速度太快與過度傾中雖然要受到嚴厲批判與嚴格監督，
卻並不代表他在賣台、矮化主權，甚至要否定或消滅中華民國；而且一個已經有總統頭銜的人，怎麼會甘心去當個區長或島主？除非他真是個白痴！
台灣的政治文化始終不夠成熟，始終困在符號的迷宮裡長期打轉，就是因為有太多的假文字學家，那種祇會選擇性望字生義的文字學家。（作者為中國
