Real magickal work is about inner awareness, inner actions;
experiences in and with inner realities.
As you grow in magick, more and more of some of these inner
realities become a part of your everyday consciousness.
But in the beginning, and for a long time, the work is
solitary. It begins with basic meditation.
If you could see someone practicing/studying real magick, you'd
see a person by themself either sitting down or lying down. In a
quiet place.
Only very advanced magicians can maintain an awareness of most
inner realities and the physical world at the same time. Being
able to act 'normally' in one's physical body and maintain
an awareness of most of these inner realities is even more
difficult.
One does the magickal work alone and then uses what is acquired
thereby in the physical world at another time. For example,
casting a spell is solitary, inner work. In order to bring the
spell into fruition the magician, at a later date, guided by
his inner self/intuitions, spontaneously acts as if what he was
casting for was a reality. This opens the door, so-to-speak, and
allows the spell to manifest.
Nothing material, except, perhaps, a notebook and pen, is
required to practice any magick at any level.
With the exception of preparatory excercises to relaxe the
body and quiet the mind, often necessary in the beginning, all
attention is focussed within and anything that disrupts that
inner focus is undesirable.
Commercial psuedo-magick, which involves elaborate, theatrical
rituals, is an artificial construct currently being exploited by
merchant priests catering to spoiled consumers who are accustomed
to buying whatever they need or want. They are _not_ interested
in solitary and disciplined work. It is basically entertainment
on a par with the movies, offering intense emotional experiences
and leaving the participants unchanged in any way. Just like the
movies.
Combine that with a party atmosphere and you are in business.
The rituals, of course, require that the members all buy a
lot of stuff.
And the clergy all assure their congregations that they are
indeed spiritually advanced, just because they came to the ritual
(church service) and have purchased all the proper books and
clothing and so forth. And made a nice donation.
This is why you will never find a Wiccan, Pagan, or Ceremonial
Magick type (like the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn) who can
demonstrate any magickal skills at all.
Most of them don't even know enough magick to give themselves
decent lives.
What they call 'magick' is just theatre. And that's all they
can do: Play the part of a magician in a C fantasy movie.

It's "pseudo", as in 'sidney is a pseudo-nym' and "relax", as in 'trolling
arw is what sidney psuedo-nym does to relax'.
I don't see what your issue is Sarchasm. While I don't agree
necessarily on all of the details (for example, I originally began in
a ceremonial background), I agree heartedly with the first half of his
post. The second half becomes less relevant.
That's alright, it's usually a result of being unaware of the previous
context which ensued. Nothing says anyone has to read other posts to know
what that context is. Your choice.

Which part, specifically? This?
"Real magickal work is about inner awareness, inner actions;
