1. About Panoramio . com
1.1. Is Panoramio the same as Google Earth?
No. Panoramio was acquired by Google in 2007, and is a photo sharing site with its own goal and identity. Google Earth and Google Maps are simply showing the photos from Panoramio, and can do so because geo tagging is one of the core features of Panoramio. The Panoramio team and the people in the forum can only deal with and help with issues within Panoramio.
Please note that Google Earth and Google Maps are separate products with their own development teams, forums and help services. Please put your requests to the correct forum for quicker help with a problem. Here you can visit the Google Earth help forum and the Google Maps community forum.

1.2. There are many photo sharing sites which have geo tagging features. So, is Panoramio just another photo sharing site then?
No, I wouldn’t say that. Panoramio began in 2005 as a photo sharing site, in which it was possible to geo-locate the photos. This meant that it was possible to include pictures from Panoramio in Google Earth. This was something they asked Google if they could do. Google loved the idea, and so began the Panoramio-Google relationship. Google acquired Panoramio in 2007 to ensure a steady flow of user generated photos to Google Earth in the future. Panoramio’s intention is to "describe the world". Typical photos that are welcome in Panoramio are landscapes, city and street photos and architectural photos.
Family photos, people posing, and typical photos from various social gatherings and situations are not forbidden, but they should not dominate a gallery. Take a look at the acceptance policy for Panoramio for more info.
So, Panoramio is not another place to add whatever photo you like. Panoramio is a site with a lot of devoted users who help the administrators with reporting users who don’t understand or know this, and use Panoramio to store all sorts of photos. Users who are caught violating the rules or found to deviate too much from Panoramio’s goal and intention, are deleted with no prior warning. See section 7.3 for more information on this topic.

2. Photos in Google Earth.
2.1. Why can’t I see my photos in Google Earth?
Please note that Google Earth and Google Maps are not the same. Please read question 2.3 if you don’t find your photos in Google Maps. Uploading photos to Panoramio does not mean that they automatically appear on Google Earth.
First, make sure that the photo is mapped. Then, you must wait for the photo to get reviewed. If the photo is approved for Google Earth, the waiting game starts. Read on for more information about the review process.
All photos uploaded to Panoramio are reviewed by a group of hard working individuals we simply know as reviewers. Mapped photos which are found to be good according to the selection guidelines are selected for Google Earth. The time it takes to select the photos varies since a batch of photos is broken up and distributed to different reviewers. If you for example upload ten photos, these may be reviewed by several reviewers at different times. The photos that are approved will receive a blue compass symbol.
Then, the selected photos are forwarded to Google Earth for final integration into the Panoramio photo layer. This may take some time. Sometimes photos can be put in place days after they were selected, but within two months time is considered normal. This process is not consecutive; the photos which are approved first may show up in Google Earth last, and vice versa. Please note the reviewers are not the same as the forum moderators. As far as we know, the reviewers have never entered the forum, so nobody in the forum knows who they are.

If you want to see your photos in Google Earth almost immediately (mostly within hours), you can make use of KML files available from Panoramio. Click on the link “In Google Earth (kml)” next to your username in the gallery page. Download the KML file and open it in Google Earth. Please note that only you can see the photos this way. Everybody else must wait till your photos are approved and in place in Google Earth before they can see them. Of course, you can send the KML file in a mail to a friend if they can’t wait.

2.2. My picture was not approved for Google Earth. Why not?
The kind of photos that are accepted and selected for Google Earth is described in Help. If the photo does not get approved, and you think it is wrong, you can click on the link “review this photo again” to get a second review. Your photo will either be accepted or stay rejected. If your photo stays rejected after the second review and you find a similar photo which is recently accepted for GE, this photo is probably wrongly selected. Also note that the rules have become stricter over the years - if you think your photo is wrongfully rejected, don’t compare with an old photo which may have been approved years ago under different rules. Opening a forum post to complain about your rejected photos is usually pointless. This has been discussed many many times before in the forum, and the photos in question have stayed rejected; a second-time review is final.

Remember that those who review the photos are human beings. Like all humans they make mistakes every now and then. Each of the reviewers is looking at hundreds of photos every day. They seem to have a bit more detailed instructions than those you can see in the help section. These instructions seem to be constantly adjusted based on complaints and new interpretations of the general rules. It is said that they have an error rate of about 1%, that’s about 15,000 photos a month. Then we are talking about errors in both directions; incorrectly approved, and incorrectly rejected. This forum post about this issue is recommended reading. Also keep in mind that the reviewers can only see your photo. They can’t see who you are, the title, comments or tags. Furthermore they do not verify the location or see where the photo being reviewed is located at.

The following notes describe common borderline cases, which cause discussions and anger among users when photos have been rejected for Google Earth. In these cases, the line between selected or rejected can be very thin, and the reviews may be a little inconsistent.  Many users also disagree with the acceptance policy for these cases. This is based on experience and forum discussions.

Borders / frames. The acceptance policy says “thin borders are OK”. This basically means that the borders / frames should be discrete and not prominent. There is no accurate measurement for this. The actual thickness of a border will vary depending on the size of the photo. What matters is how prominent the borders / frames look when you look at the entire photo.
Some people like to create a shadow effect around their photos. This looks cool in the user gallery with its white background, but will lead to rejection of the photo for GE. To achieve this shadow effect the photo needs a rather thick white border, and as the reviewer’s background is not white they will easily see the white border.

Machines.  A general rule seems to be that if the machine(s) (boat, car, train, etc) is dominating, or seems to be the main subject of the photo, it will be rejected. Visible parts of machines you are using for transportation, like aircraft wings, side of a train, front of a car and part the interior of such machines will normally be rejected. Typical photos that include machines that are selected for GE, might be a lake scenery with some boats, a street with parked and moving cars and trams, overview of a train station with trains in the distance. Somehow it seems to be difficult to have photos of airports with aeroplanes selected.

People in the photo (posing or not). Photos where people are very prominent in the photo, even if they were not aware they were being photographed, tend to be rejected. This is especially true if they are near the photographer. Photos of a street scenery with people walking around will normally be accepted. A photo of a statue or a small monument with people standing in front may be rejected, even if they were not posing.

Interior of buildings. Anything which is not a broad scenery where we can see far and wide, will normally be rejected. If the photo at first glance looks like a close up of something like a wall (if that wall is almost all you see) or object, it will normally be rejected.

Size of logos / watermarks. Again, here is the same problem as with borders. The size of the logo or watermark must be small and discrete in relation to the whole photo, in order to be selected. This also means that it should not be placed in the center of the photo, but somewhere in the corners or the sides. Photos with large and prominent timestamps will also be rejected.

Sunsets without visible landscape features. If the sunset is showing the sun, sky and the ocean, but nothing else, it will normally be rejected (even if a few rocks and distant cliffs can be seen). The general argument is that such photos do not describe a place in any way. If it’s impossible to see where the photo was taken because of missing landscape features, there is no point in having the photo in Google Earth. The same goes for open ocean photos. If the photo has some landscape features in the far distance it may be accepted.
---
The latest uploaded photos that have been found in Google Earth will be announced here. (User generated info, not from any team members.)

2.3. Why can’t I see my photo(s) on Google Maps?
Panoramio performs only direct uploads to Google Earth, and does not control what goes on in Google Maps. Panoramio photo updates between Google Earth and Google Map appears to be only every second month. Note that photos that were previously visible on Google Maps may suddenly disappear after an update of the photo layer. It looks like very few of the Google Earth approved photos will ever appear in Google Maps.

2.4. I can see my photo in Google Maps but not in Google Earth, how is that possible?
This happens when your photo has been selected for Google Maps after Google Earth approval, so it appears on both places. Then your photo has disappeared from Google Earth because of the problem described in question 2.9. If you discovered this by looking at the photo statistics page, seeing only views for Maps and not for Earth, there might also be another reason. The photo may be in Google Earth, but it is only visible at a low altitude because of its low popularity. Since only a few of the photos in Google Earth appear in Google Maps, unpopular photos in Earth may be popular in Maps and vice versa. Please read 2.8 about photo popularity.

2.5. I have edited the photo title and/or location, but I can’t see the changes in Google Earth, why?
Any changes made in Panoramio will be visible when the next update for Google Earth happens - this can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months, so just wait.

2.6. I have removed a photo from the gallery, but why is it still visible on Google Earth?
See the answer given in Section 2.5.

2.7. Can I change a photo, after I uploaded it to Panoramio?
No. This is because of the Google Earth approval process, which has to be done before the photos can be displayed in Google Earth. All you can do is to upload an edited version, and delete the old one. Any views, likes, YS (yellow stars) and comments cannot be transferred to the edited photo. They will be lost if you delete the original photo.

2.8. What makes a photo "popular"?
The exact method for determining the popularity of a photo is a carefully guarded secret by Panoramio (in order to prevent abuse and artificially increase a photo’s popularity). In general, the number of hits, number of times the photo is flagged as a favourite, and also the level of activity of the Panoramio user counts.
See also Understanding Popularity in the Help section.

2.9. I’ve seen my photo in Google Earth, but now it’s gone. Why is that?
When photos are entering the Google Earth layer, they do so in a temporary layer which is visible at high altitude. These photos will later be placed in a permanent layer which it takes about three days to build. During those days photos are still being added to the temporary layer. The photos added during those days will not be part of the newly built permanent layer. When the permanent layer goes live, the old temporary layer is replaced with a new one and the photos added during the three day period will not be seen until they are included with the next permanent layer.
So basically, you’ve had some bad luck and the photo will reappear after a month or so.

2.10. My photo has received a lot of views in Google Earth, but suddenly it dropped and now it gets none at all. What’s going on?
New photos in Google Earth tend to get a high altitude or good place in a cluster when they first appear. This is to give them a chance to be seen and to start to gain popularity. After a week or sometimes less, they drop down in altitude and become more difficult to spot, hence the low view count. In time the photos will start to rise again, but their altitude will be determined by the popularity they have gained so far. Learn more by reading Understanding Popularity in the Help section. If the photo is completely gone from Google Earth, take a look at 2.9.
If the photo has been in Google Earth for a long time (months or years) there may have been a change in the popularity algorithm causing your photo to lose popularity, thus causing a drop in altitude or getting a lesser place in a cluster.

2.11. It takes very long time to load Panoramio photos in Google Earth. Is it a bug or do I have a problem?
It could be a conflict between Google Earth and your internet / LAN settings.
If you are using windows:
Go to Control Panel --> Internet options --> Connections --> LAN settings, and uncheck "Automatically detect settings"
Or in Internet Explorer: Tools --> Internet options --> Connections --> LAN Settings, and uncheck "Automatically detect settings"
The exact path may be different in your OS.

3. Photos in the Panoramio gallery.
3.1. I'm having trouble uploading my photos; could it be because of the file size, resolution or file format?
Maximum size and resolution of photos that can be uploaded to Panoramio is 25 megabytes and / or 50 mega pixels, which is the height in pixels x the width in pixels. If you try to upload photos larger than this, the photo uploader will give an error message, stating that the task has failed.
You decide how big your photos can be, but remember that much of the world has no access to broadband and other forms of fast Internet. Very large photos can therefore limit the number of people who can see what you've posted.

The only accepted file format is .jpg /.jpeg. For a while it was possible to upload many other file formats, this was not supposed to be possible and the mistake is now corrected. If you try to upload a file in a wrong file format, you will get an error message. Unfortunately, the error message is a rather unhelpful message along the lines of “Upload Failed, Unknown Error”.

From time to time, the server may also have some problems that prevent the uploading of photos, unfortunately the only option then is to wait and try again later.

3.2. How many photos can I upload at once?
The limit is set at 200 per upload.

3.3. When I upload my photos, should I place the photo in the subject location, or the location where I took the photo?
You should place your photo where you took it. When someone looks at your photo and sees its location on the map, they know what the world looks like from that point.
You can also mark the subject of your photo using the “snap to place” function.

This is how “snap to place” works. After you have put your photo on the map, this option becomes available. What you do is connect your photo to a predefined placemark on the map. Such placemarks are point data on the map which is found for both natural and man made landmarks. The placemarks come from many different sources. Some of these placemarks came with the data Google purchased from their map data provider. Others have been provided by various users, mostly businesses through Google Places. Others may be provided by users editing Google Maps using Google Map Maker. This service is not available in all countries yet, you can check if you can edit the map in your country or area here. For various reasons, these placemarks may not be in their correct place. You can request moving of placemarks in Google Maps. Hover the mouse cursor over the placemark, and a small window will open up so you can see some information. At the bottom of the info window, there are some links, click “more” to the right  to toggle a pulldown menu. Select “Move marker”. Put the placemark in its correct place and click “save”. Your edit must be reviewed by a Google Maps moderator before it is approved. You can also provide your own placemarks if they are missing using Google Map Maker.

This is how you use “Snap to place”. When you are uploading and mapping your photos, placemarks near the photo location will become visible in the mapping window. Hover the mouse cursor over the place mark to see the name. Click on the placemark you consider to be the best and most relevant for your photo. Click the blue button to “Snap” your photo to this “place” (landmark or whatever). The symbol for the  “place” you snap to will change from a small to a large brown and white square on the map. If you don’t find a relevant placemark, it could be hidden. Try to search for one by using the search field in the uploader. If available, a list of placemarks will appear as you are typing the letters. Click the one you think is the most relevant, and the photo will be snapped to this place. If you didn't find a relevant placemark, that’s OK. You can do it later or leave the photo without subject connection. If you want to use “snap to place” on a photo in your gallery, you go to the photo page and click “change location” under the map. Then do as described above. You can see your “snapped” photos in the “places” tab in the Panoramio Map. You can check the suitability of a placemark after selecting it from the list and before saving the change, by right-clicking on the placemark link and opening the link in a new window or tab (this is browser/operating system dependant).

You can also flag your photo as taken indoors if you want to. Then your photo can be enjoyed in the “indoor” tab in the Panoramio map.

3.4. Something went wrong and some photos were not uploaded, and the process has stalled. Thus I cannot press the "Done" button. What do I do now?

To prevent losing all the work that has been done, close the tab or window in which the upload has taken place. If you click on the "cancel" button, all the photos which have successfully been uploaded, will be deleted. In most cases, you can go on with your upload, mapping, titling, snapping and tagging when there is an error. just ignore the "done" button if it doesn´t work.

A tip is to open your gallery page in another tab while doing the upload process. Refresh that tab regularly to follow the progress of your uploads. This allows you to see what’s been successful or not. If something goes wrong during the upload, just close the upload tab and finish the job (mapping, adding titles, etc) in your gallery.

3.5. Can I copy photos from Picasaweb and Google + to Panoramio?
Yes. In the photo uploader, there is a feature that allows you to do so.
You can also copy photos from Picasaweb by logging into Picasaweb, and copy from there. Please check that the photos are suitable for Panoramio before copying them across.

3.6. Are there any statistics for my photos?
Yes. By clicking on the view counts under your photo in the gallery page, you can view a statistics page for the photo. You can access the same page when you click on the view count to the right while in the picture page. You can get statistics for your account, by clicking on the view count to the right in your gallery page. Here you can read more about the photo statistics.

3.7. Can I see statistics that are older than 30 days?
No. 30 days are all we can view for the time being.

3.8. A picture has received both "likes" and comments, but the number of views is still 0, Why?
This is because the numbers are updated once a day, with a delay of about 24 to 48 hours from when the visit occurred. Just wait for it and the views will be displayed too.

3.9. Visitor numbers have not been updated in unusually long time now, is something wrong?
Sometimes it may take a few days longer than normal before the figures are updated. There is nothing to worry about. If it takes much longer than that, it might be a technical problem somewhere. Report this in the ‘report bugs or problems’ forum.

3.10. How do I add a description/ caption to my photos?
There are two places where you can do that.
During photo upload, you can add descriptions in the field under the title field.
The other place is the photo page.
Go to the photo page, under your photo, and above the small picture carousel is a field for writing a description. The formatting options are the same as for the comments below photos. Unlike the comments under photos, you can edit the description as many times as you want. If the description is longer than five lines of text, the extra text will be hidden from the viewer, but can be seen by pressing the “more” button. Sadly, there’s no native translation option for the descriptions. However, there is a workaround that adds a link which sends the text to Google Translate:

This is the description text. [Translate.](http://translate.google.com/#auto|auto|This is the description text)

Result:
This is the description text. Translate.

Make sure to remove all formatting, links, parentheses and apostrophes in the text for translation. This is because links and parentheses will ruin the link, and apostrophes make a strange code in the translation.

3.11. Can I change the order of photos in my gallery?
No. The latest uploads are always at the top and in the "beginning" of your gallery. If you look at a "tag" it’s the other way around. However, you can choose which photos to show first when a visitor looks at your gallery by using the "Best" feature. See the next section. You can also organize your photos by using tags. See 3.21 for more info.

3.12. What is the "Best" feature?
The "Best" feature lets you show your favourite photos on the front of the gallery. Create a tag named Best. Tag your favourite photos with best. When someone visits your gallery, these photos will be the first thing a visitor sees. The order of the pictures is; recent "first and at the top". You can also add pictures to the "Best" tag, using "Best" button under your photo. If you want to "disable" this feature, you can either delete the "Best" tag, or change it to something else, such as "Best1". For more information see blogpost1 and blogpost2 about this feature.

3.13. Someone has stolen and is using my photo! What do I do now?
If another Panoramio user is using your photo, you can use this form to report it, choose the desired language at the bottom of the page. If you find your photo on another website, you must check if they use the Panoramio API or not. Please note, that websites can show your photo legally, if they are using the API the correct way. If another website has stolen your photo, this is something you have to sort out yourself. This is because the photo is no longer on a Panoramio or Google server. You are the owner of the photo, not Panoramio or Google. Read more here. In general, if you don’t want your photo to be stolen, don’t put it on the Internet. Even the best protective measures used by photo sharing sites cannot prevent skilled computer users from obtaining a copy of your photo, which can then be used on another site.

3.14. How do I edit my tags?
Right above your tags where you see the text; ”Organize with tags”, there is a link: “[Edit]”. Click to be able to rename and delete your tags.

3.15. I’ve been a member for a couple of months now, but my photos are barely getting any views, why not?
As with all other things in this world, if nobody knows about it, nobody will come to see it. In Google Earth, the view ability of your photos is determined by the photos popularity. Look at section 2.7 to read about the popularity rankings in Google Earth. To get view counts on your photos, you need to advertise yourself a bit and be an active Panoramio user. Various kinds of user activity seem to be rewarded in the popularity algorithm, plus it will give instant visits to your photos in Panoramio. The general advice is to contact other users by commenting on their photos, engage in discussions under photos and in the forum. You must be mindful on how you do this. If you give shallow comments or copy & paste comments, people will just ignore you. Make genuine comments, show positive interest for their photos. I say “positive” because some people don’t handle getting negative comments on their photos, not even well meant tips on how they could have improved the photo. So, be a bit mindful when commenting. A nice tip is also to participate in various games and contests in the forum. Please visit the Games and Competitions forum for some fun. If you do things right, people will start to take notice of you and your photos. Having good and interesting photos helps a lot, people may start to add you as their favorite (see section 8.4.) and perhaps include you in their community in Panoramio. Being in a friendly community in Panoramio will give your photos publicity and you may get genuine friends as a bonus.
Another tip is to give good and relevant titles to you photos. That will increase their probability to be discovered in Google Search.

3.16. How do I change the title on an existing photo?
Simply click on the title and it should become editable. The text will change a bit and have a yellow background. Just click somewhere else on the page to save the result.

3.17. Why is the count for favourite photos in the statistics page so low? It doesn’t show all of them.
The favourite counter in the stat page doesn't count favourite photos at all; it counts the photographers who have you as their favourite. Look at section 8.4 to see how to add someone as your favourite.

3.18. I’ve seen that one of my photos have been getting views in the in the “recently viewed” carousel, but the view count is not being updated. Is something wrong with the counters?
It could have been a view triggered from a web crawler or a indexing bot you have seen. They are not included in the final stats. But, sometimes there are bugs occurring when the stats are being calculated. If the view counts look very suspicious compared with other photos, uploaded at the same time or being very similar, you can report it on the forum. It could be that you have stumbled upon a bigger problem with the stat counters.

3.19. Why are some of my photos tilted 90 degrees in Panoramio, when they were fine in my computer?
This has become a common problem lately. It’s caused by something called a photo rotation tag. Here is the short explanation. When you take a photo with your camera tilted 90 degrees, like you typically would if you were taking someone’s portrait, or just want to capture the scene in a cool angle, the camera senses or understands in some way how you were holding the camera. It then applies a rotation tag, which tells display devices to show the photos rotated when displayed. Are you puzzled now? OK, I will explain a few things.
First of all, when the camera stores the photo in its memory, it’s always stored as a horizontal image (wider than it is tall), regardless of how you actually did your photo.
Secondly, the photos are also stored with something called EXIF metadata. Metadata is basically data about data. In the case of photos, its data about the photo, stored in a standard way called EXIF (EXchangeable Image file Format). EXIF data can hold a wide variety of information, but the most common is when you took the photo, its size, if you used flash or not, type of flash used, white balance, photo mode (landscape, sport, macro, etc), camera type and model, focal length of the lens, f number and exposure time.
Most camera models today also add the so called rotation tag, also known as rotation flag. This is basically an entry in the EXIF, telling display devices that the photo should be shown rotated in some direction and degree when displaying the photo. This is why you see your photo displayed the way you took it in the camera display screen, and in most photo software on your computer.
When you upload an image to Panoramio, several smaller copies of your photo are made for various purposes, like the thumbnails on your gallery page and for use in the forum and also the small preview photo in the photo page. When these are made, the rotation flag is used to rotate the photo like on most other display devices. However, when you click to see the full size image, you see the same file as you uploaded to Panoramio as it was on your computer or phone (with a new filename only). Now, your web browser becomes the display device and web browsers ignore the rotation flag, displaying the photo as it really is. If you don’t like the photo this way, you must make a new version of the photo and upload it again to Panoramio. What you must do, is to physically rotate the image, and either delete or update the rotation flag.
Some photo processing software doesn’t update the rotation tag when you save a processed image. Use one that does. You can see how the image really looks like in the file manager of your computer operating system. Just enable thumbnail view of the files. You can read more about rotation tags here.

3.20. Why are my photos messed up after upload to Panoramio? They were fine in my computer, but now some of them look strange.
If your photos have strange colors, horizontal lines with the same color or strange pattern, it could indicate some serious problems with your computer hardware. It’s most likely a problem with the RAM / memory on your computer and is a sign of a growing problem. When your photo is uploaded to the Internet, it is loaded from your hard drive to the computer memory. If the memory is faulty, the uploaded photo will be corrupted and ruined. This error may not occur all the time but every now and then, making it hard to detect with a test. There are many free and good RAM testers you can download from the Internet. Since these photos are an indication of a problem, it’s recommended to spend a lot of time on the tests to either uncover the problem or to ensure that the memory is OK. If the RAM is found to be faulty, you must replace the computer memory.
Alternatively, there could be something wrong with your network router. Try to do some troubleshooting. You should also try another memory card for your camera, the card may be faulty.

3.21. What are tags and how do I use them in Panoramio?
Tags are a nice way of labelling and organising your photos. For example; someone visits your gallery and that user is particularly interested in churches. If you have tagged all your photos of churches, the user can click on that tag and get to see all your church photos.
You can both assign existing tags to your photos and create new ones in the photo uploader. You can also create them in your gallery page by looking in the right column under the “upload your photos” link. There is a bar there saying “Organize with tags”. There you can create new tags. You can apply tags to photos by clicking the “apply” button next to a tag. All photos will now become veiled, unless they already have the tag you selected. Click on the photos you wish to tag to mark them, each photo will become bright as the tag is applied. Click again to remove the tag from a photo. Click “done” next to the tag to finish. I would recommend tagging one page at a time, which means to click “done” before going to another gallery page to continue tagging.

3.22. How can I view the full size image when using the new photo viewer?
If you click the second last button to the right, you can view the original image file just like before.

3.23. Some of my photos look grainy in the photo viewer, why is that?
It could be that you uploaded a photo which is smaller that the the viewer window. The small photo will then be upscaled and look grainy. The max width of photos displayed in the viewer is 2000 pixels.

3.24. What is “snap to place”?
See the explanation in 3.3.

4. Wrong information.
4.1. A photo has wrong title, description and/or location in Google Earth.  Will Panoramio do something about it?
Photo titles, the location of the picture and description of the picture are not controlled by Google Earth, or Panoramio, but by each user on Panoramio. The best option is to leave a comment under the photo, or send a private message to prompt the user to correct the inaccurate information. If the picture is clearly misplaced, you can use the "Misplaced?" Feature in the photo page for suggesting a new location. When you do so, one of three things may happen, depending on the photo owner's reaction.
If the photo owner accepts your proposal, the photo is moved to the new location.
If your proposal is ignored and the photo owner leaves your proposal untouched, the photo disappears from Google Earth in the next update.
If the photo owner rejects your proposal, the photo will remain in place and nobody else can propose a new location. This is to avoid abuse of this feature.

4.2 There are incorrect names and/ or borders on the map. What can I do to rectify the error?
This is not a Panoramio issue, Google Maps is the one to talk to.
You can use a feature in Google Maps called "Report a problem." Here is a user guide in English (you can choose another language at the bottom of the page) that explains what to do. If Google map maker is available in your area, you can edit the map yourself and a Google Maps moderator may approve your edit. Here is the updated list of countries and territories where Map Maker is available.

5. About using the Panoramio forum.
5.1. How do I insert thumbnails in forum posts?
The quickest way is to use an external tool by the Panoramio user RobStamp. Here is the tool: http://www.rstamp.karoo.net/image-post.htm

You can also add a photo manually. Here is a small tutorial:
  1. Click on the little image symbol in the text editor.
  2. Copy and paste the address of the photo page into the URL field.
  3. It should look like this: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/xxxxxxx (where xxxxxxx is the photo ID)
  4. You must change this link into a valid image file link. It should look like this:  http://www.panoramio.com/photos/small/xxxxxxx.jpg where the parts highlighted in bold and bigger letters is what you must add to complete the correct address. (small can be replaced with medium if the photo is very wide compared to its height, like in a wide panorama)
  5. If the address is correct, the photo should now appear under the URL field. Click “Select” to add the photo to your post.
  6. The next step is to change the link in the thumbnail so it leads to the photo page where the map and comments are displayed instead of the full size image. Click once on the thumbnail, and a blue box will appear under the thumbnail. On the top line in the box you see the link to the image, Click on “change” after the link. Now, a new window appears.
  7. In the address field in the new window, remove the old address and paste the photo page link which should still be in the computer memory. It should be this address: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/xxxxxxx which is the one you started with. You can also change the link address to the correct format by reversing the process described in step 4. When the address is changed and correct, click OK to finish.

There are also two other tutorials in the forum. They are a bit different. If you didn’t like this one, you can try the other ones. You can find them here and here.

5.2. Can I get updates from a forum thread on e-mail?
Yes. Locate the “topic options” button at the top left of the thread, under the topic title. It is a small button with an “arrow down (triangle)” symbol. Click this button to toggle the topic menu. Select “Email updates to me” to subscribe to the thread. If you want to unsubscribe, click “Cancel my email updates”.

5.3. I would like to have a link to a specific thread, how do I get that?

Locate the “topic options” button at the top left of the thread, under the topic title. It is a small button with an “arrow down (triangle)” symbol. Click this button to toggle the topic menu. Select “Link to this topic” to get a link you can copy&paste.

As an alternative, you can also link to a specific post in a thread. Toggle the menu to the right in the post you want to link to to get to a small menu. Select the link symbol.

5.4. All posts in the thread are collapsed, how can I see all the posts at once?
Locate the “topic options” button at the top left of the thread, under the topic title. It is a small button with an “arrow down (triangle)” symbol. Click this button to toggle the topic menu. Select “Expand all” to expand all the posts.

5.5. What is the difference between the red “Post reply” button at the top and the “Post reply” function (arrow button) on each post in the thread?

By using the red button, you are replying to the first post and the thread in general. By using the reply button on a post, you reply to that specific post. Read on to see why this matters.

First I want to explain a thing about the forum. You can choose to see the forum in “paged view”, “tree view” or “chronological view”.

You can toggle between them by selecting them in the topic options menu. Access the menu by clicking the “topic options” button at the top left of the thread, under the topic title. It is a small button with an “arrow down (triangle)” symbol.

In chronological view and paged view, all replies are shown chronologically as they were posted with the last post at the bottom of the thread. In tree view it’s a bit different. Any replies directly to another post will stick to that post, and will not be shown chronologically at the bottom of the thread, unless it’s a reply to the post at the bottom of the thread. In other words, in tree view the latest posts may be shown anywhere in the thread, except at the very top. If you reply with the red button your post will be shown at the bottom of the thread in both chronological and tree view. If you use the reply button at the post, you reply directly to that specific post. In tree view your post will be shown under the post you replied to. In chronological view, your post will be shown at the bottom of the thread as long as it is the last one.

Since some prefers chronological view and others like tree view, it’s recommended that you use a quote when you reply directly to a post. See 5.6. When threads get long enough, they will automatically be shown in paged view. You can select chronological view or three view if you don’t like that.

5.6. Is there a quote function in this forum?
Yes. Above the editor window you can click the text “Quote original” and a quoted text will appear in the editor box with some extra info from the post you are quoting from.

5.7. Where can I see an overview of all the posts I’ve made in the forum?
To have an overview of all the posts you made in the forum, look to the right in one of your posts and find the “post reply” button. Click on the button with the triangle and there will be a drop down menu. Select “Show activity”. The email address is only visible to you.

5.8. Where is the edit button?
To do an edit of your post after you have posted it, look to the right in your post and find the “post reply” button. Click on the button with the triangle and there will be a drop down menu. Select “edit” to start editing your post.

5.9. How do I enable the code view?
I’m sorry, this forum uses rich text format. There is no code view.

5.10. How do I delete a post I made in a thread?
Open your post and look to the right and locate the “post reply” button. Click on the button with the triangle and there will be a drop down menu. Select “Delete post”

5.11. How do I delete a topic I’ve created?
Open your topic and click on “actions” over the topic window. Select “delete” at the bottom of the menu.

5.12. Can I use whatever language I want in the forum?
Yes, but you must use your language in the right sub forum. The main forum is international and only English should be used there. If you scroll down, there are also several sub forums for other languages, which have their own moderators who are native to the specific language. At the bottom of the forum you will find a sub forum for those languages which do not have their own forum. Several moderators are monitoring this sub forum, but they depend on using a translation service to be able to help you. For the best possible response to your issue, use English in the international forum sections. More moderators and other users with a lot of knowledge frequent there.

5.13. I can’t see my name in the forum, how can I make my name visible?
Your username is only hidden for you; this is the same for several Google services. You are simply referred to as “you” or “me” while being logged in. Everybody else will see your username next to your posts. There is nothing you need to change, everything is OK.

5.14. What is a forum moderator?
A forum moderator is a user of the forum who has been given special privileges in the forum by the administrators. Typical privileges are the ability to edit, delete and move other user’s posts. A moderator’s main task is to keep order in the forum. However, the moderators of Panoramio view themselves more like a help resource than a forum boss. Forum moderators have no privileges outside the forum, but are helpful with communicating outside forum issues to the administrators. Approving of photos for Google Earth is done by a different group of people, who are referred to as reviewers. There is no contact between the Panoramio moderators and the reviewers. Panoramio’s moderators are chosen by a combination of their desire to help, knowledge and understanding of the forum and Panoramio in general, and the languages they master.
A list of moderators in the Panoramio forum can be found here.

Here is a Groups help page for general use of Google Groups, which is the technology this forum is based on.

6. About Panoramio Groups
6.1. What are Panoramio Groups?
In short, you can create a group where you share photos from your Panoramio gallery, plus each group has a mini forum where you can discuss with others. Groups can be defined according to different themes, such as geographical locations, photographic disciplines, objects and machines, etc. The photos you can share in Panoramio groups are not related to what is approved or not in Google Earth. You can share what you want, as long as it is in line with Panoramio’s terms of service, and should preferably be in line with Panoramio’s purpose and intent. You can visit your Panoramio Groups management page by clicking the link “Explore” on the top of your Panoramio page, then choose “Groups”. Please note, you must have a Google Account in connection with your Panoramio account in order to use Panoramio Groups. To create your own groups, click on the blue “Create group” button in the groups management page. In section 6.17, there are some tips for group ownership.
Here is a Groups help page for general use of Google Groups, which the discussion feature in Panoramio groups is based on. Also read section 5 of this FAQ which is valid for both the forum and the groups discussion feature.

6.2. How to add photos in the group gallery?
There are two ways.
  • When you are in the group, you can click on the "add photos” button in the top right of the window. Your photos will be visible and you can select photos and click OK to add.
  • You can also add photos from the photo page. If you look to the right in the photo page, you can choose which groups you want the photo to belong to. Click [Add/Edit] to get to the add buttons. Click on the “next”  / “previous” arrows to cycle through your groups.

6.3. Can I add photos by tags?
No, there is not a special feature to do so as yet. What you can do is to open the tag in your gallery, then add tagged photos one by one to the group. See second point in 6.2.

6.4. How to remove my own photo from the group gallery?
Select "Photos" --> "Manage my photos". This will show your photos only, and a "delete" button should now have appeared over your photos.

6.5. How do I promote someone to become a moderator?
Select "Members" --> "manage members". Find the member, select the desired status (moderator or owner if the member is already a moderator). The member will now receive a request to become a moderator or owner.

6.6. I've made a URL for one of my groups, but it does not work. What could be wrong?
Only enter the desired name of the group, not the full URL address.

6.7. Can a group have multiple owners, for example one that can take over my ownership?
Yes. First you need to make a person a moderator. Then you can promote the moderator to become an owner the same way you promote someone to become a moderator. There may be several owners of the group and everyone will have the same rights and abilities. See section 6.5. for instructions on how to promote a moderator.

6.8. How many moderators can a group have?
The limit seems to be 100 or 99.

6.9. I get lots of emails from the groups I'm a member in. What do I do to stop them?
Go to each group you receive emails from. Click on "Discussions. --> "My membership". Click "No email” to stop emails.

6.10. I want to delete my group, how do I do that?
First, you must delete all the photos and members. This will enable the delete button in the group settings. It’s done this way to prevent groups from being deleted accidentally.

6.11. How do I terminate my membership in a group?
Look to the right, at the bottom of the group there is a link saying “Leave the group”. If you are the moderator of the group, you must resign as a moderator first, by clicking the link at the same place. Then you will get the “Leave the group link”. If you started the group, and you want to give it away before leaving it, look at section 6.7 on how to promote a new owner of the group.

6.12. Is there a way to find out how many photos a person has in a group, without counting the photos one by one?
There are two ways of doing this.
Do it manually in the group. If you are an owner or moderator of the group, go to members, click on Manage group members. Find the person you want to check (good luck with that). When the person is found, there will be a button on the thumbnail saying Remove. Click there (this will not remove the person, there is one more step before that) and you will be given the photo count on the removal message. Click Cancel to avoid removing the person from the group.
You can also use the tool by Otula: http://panogroup.4fan.cz/ This tool creates a convenient list of users and their number of photos in the group.

6.13. How do I remove a member from my group?
Go to members, click on Manage group members. Find the person you want to check (good luck with that). When the person is found, there will be a button on the thumbnail saying Remove. Click there, and click OK to confirm the removal of the member from the group.

6.14. I have a problem with the gallery of one of my groups. One of the pages appears to be broken, how can I fix this?
The theory is that a buggy photo has been added, making the gallery viewer crash. If you know which photo, have the owner remove it from the group.
Buggy photo means a photo which is not a .JPG file being uploaded to Panoramio, which again renames all files to .JPG. The photo viewer expects a normal .JPG file but gets a .JPG file with the wrong content. It's like opening a bag of candy, just to discover that it’s filled with glass marbles...
A special case which also suggests another reason, indicates that a photo may be fine when uploaded, but the little images created by Panoramio, like the thumbnail and preview photo has become corrupt, thus crashing the viewer because it cannot read the corrupt files.
If you can't solve this yourself, please make a post in the Support and Feedback forum.

6.15. How do I insert a thumbnail in the group discussions?
You do that the same way as in the forum, see section 5.1. The group discussions are almost identical to the forum; look at section 5 in general for more tips.

6.16. Someone has applied for membership in my group, but when I try to accept I get the message "Error when modifying the invitation". What’s the problem here?
Sometimes it seems to occur when someone else (another moderator) has just accepted or rejected the user. Reloading the page usually works, and then you can see what the other person did. Sometimes this error makes no sense, reload and try again. This also applies when you are rejecting the application but someone else has approved it.

6.17. Help! Some people are really misbehaving in my group. What can the forum moderators and the admins do about that?
Short answer: nothing, unless it’s a violation of the Terms of Service. Then you can report the problematic user to [email not in use anymore].
Longer answer: The wellbeing of the group is the responsibility of the group owner and the group moderators. It’s not a problem for the forum moderators or the admins.

Some tips for group ownership:
A good tip for maintaining a good group would be to have a well defined group topic with a proper description and having well defined and reasonable rules for the group. Another tip would be to make a discussion post within the group where you elaborate and clarify the rules, and perhaps add your personal vision for this group. Make a link to that topic in the description field of the group. This will not prevent all problems, but at least you have defined rules and regulations which you can use to legitimize your moderating actions. It will also make it easier for any moderators to know how to help you with your group.
Be aware that there are few physical limits which regulate groups. For example, there are no limits to the number of photos a person can add in a given time frame, or for how many photos a person can add to the group. If you create such regulations, you must enforce them yourself.
Another tip would be to have a good entrance control for your group. Have people present a photo when they are applying, so it’s easier for you to see if they have understood the purpose of your group. This is useful because many people don’t read the description and rules before they apply. This could be because of language problems, they forgot to do it, they don’t know that groups may have any rules and some people just don’t care at all.
If problematic people are already in your group, a kind PM to the member may solve the problem. See 8.7 for some details. If this doesn’t help, you can also remove members from your group. See 6.13 on how to do that.

6.18. The discussions in my group are filling up with posts which I want to delete. How do I do that?
Go to Discussions. In front of each topic, there is a small box you can tick to mark the post. When you have marked all the posts you want to delete, click on “actions” on the top of the group discussions. In the menu that appears, select “delete” to clear all selected topics.
If you are going to delete just one post, you can open the post and look to the right and find the “post reply” button. Click on the button with the triangle and there will be a drop down menu. Select “delete the post”.

6.19. The discussions in my groups have vanished or are inaccessible. How do I solve this?
This problem is usually caused by either a technical problem with the discussion part of all groups. It will be solved when the admins take a look at it. Or, you may have been signed out of your Google account but are still signed in to your Panoramio account. To solve this, you must sign in again to your Google account and reload the group.

6.20. How do I become a member of someone’s group?
When you are visiting a group you want to become a member of, you can click the “join group” button after the group name. If you attach a relevant photo for the group with your application and write a custom text, you are more likely to be accepted as a member of the group.

6.21. How do I invite people to my groups?
When you visit someone’s gallery, you can invite this user in three different ways.
  • Under the user’s tags in the right column, you will find a link saying “invite this user to a group”. Click there and you will be given the choice to invite the user to the groups you are a member of.
  • You can also invite a user by visiting one of the user’s photos. In the photo page, to the right, under the statistics, you will find the same “invite this user to a group” link. By using this link in the photo page, you are automatically attaching the photo to the invitation. Doing it this way is good when the photo is relevant for the group you are inviting the user to.
If you are a regular member of the group, a moderator or owner of the group must accept your invitation before the user gets the invitation notification. If you are a moderator or owner, the user will get the invitation right away.
  • The third way is to create a pre-approved invitation. You do this by going to the group settings; at the bottom you will find this option. What you do is to create a link you can give to other people via email or other types of communication. A QR code is also created; you can print the code and link and give it to someone. Those who follow the link will become member of the group without any approval process.

6.22. How do I make a URL for my group?
This option will be available in group settings when the group has reached a certain number of members (not sure how many, less than 10 I think). When it's available, remember to type the group name only, not the entire URL.

6.23. When I search for a group with two names in the title, I only get results for the first name in the group. Are there any workarounds for this?
You can try the improved group search engine made by Jörn KH: http://find-groups.appspot.com/

6.24. Is there a way of browsing the photos of one user in a group only?
Not natively in Panoramio Groups, but you can try this user tool by junk0128: http://junk0128-pgp.appspot.com/index1.html

6.25. Why are my groups no longer arranged alphabetically?
This happens when you pass 99 group memberships. You can leave the groups you don’t take an active part in, to restore the alphabetical order of the groups. See 6.11 for instructions.

7. My Account.
7.1. I forgot my password, what can I do to regain control of my account?
Go to: http://www.panoramio.com/forgot_password Enter the email address you use to log in to Panoramio. If  you  are not sure what address you have used, you can specify the user identification number instead (the one at the end of the URL of your user gallery). You will now receive an email from Panoramio with further assistance. It’s therefore important that you have access to the e-mail account.
If you are uncertain about the user identification number, you can also find it by finding one of your photos in Google Earth or Maps. Choose to open the photo in a web browser window, then click on your user name under the photo. Your user id is then shown in the url, after www.panoramio.com/user/.

7.2. I logged into my account, but all my pictures are gone. What has happened?
If you have tried to link your Panoramio account to your Google account, you may have made an extra Panoramio account by mistake. Unfortunately, a Google account which have been connected to a Panoramio account in the past, cannot be connected to a different Panoramio account. This means you must create a new Google account, and use this one to connect to your original Panoramio account. You can now try to link the accounts again. If you are using any kind of blocking add-ons for your browser, please unblock any Google servers. This is because Panoramio loads some of its content from Google servers.

7.3. I cannot access my account. When I visit my gallery, it seems to have been deleted. Why?
Most likely your account has been deleted by the administrator. There may be several reasons why this has happened. Most often it is because the gallery has been in violation of Panoramio’s Terms of Service (TOS). Sometimes accounts are  deleted because the user has ignored in a severe way the intention and origin of Panoramio, as described in Section 1.2, and in the welcome text in the help page. The acceptance policy for Panoramio photos, defines what kinds of photos are OK.

Accounts that tend to be deleted by the administrators have photo galleries that almost entirely have the following type of content:
  • Social gatherings (conferences, schools, parties, pub, clubs, etc.)
  • Self portraits, people posing and pets.
Accounts with clear TOS and photo policy violations will also be deleted:
  • Advertising (of any type) for services (hotels, various leasing, real estate, etc) and merchandise.
  • Porn or very sexual photos (NSFW)
  • Stolen photos (with or without copyright).
  • Images that are not photos (logos, icons, computer generated images, banners and screenshots).
  • Stolen wallpapers.
  • Accounts (with or without photos) that are used to spread spam, propaganda (religious, political and ideological) and malicious comments in the forum, via PM and photo comments.

If you believe that there has been a mistake, please make a new account and ask in the Support and Feedback forum, explaining the situation with all the relevant details. It may be possible to restore your account.

7.4. I deleted the Google account associated with my Panoramio account, now I can’t access my Panoramio account. What can I do to retrieve my account?
Deletion of a Google account associated with a Panoramio account will also delete the Panoramio account. After 72 hours the deletion becomes permanent, so now you must act quickly. First you must recover your Google account. You can use the form you can find at the bottom of this page to do that. When the Google account is recovered and back on-line, the Panoramio account should be back and ready to use. Sometimes this fails. A probable cause for this could be that you may have created a new Panoramio account, with the exact same name as the old one. Panoramio accounts are using case sensitive and unique names. Your new account might be blocking for the return of the old one because it has the same name. If the account doesn’t return, you must create a new one. Be careful with account deletions!

If you wish to remove one or more Google products without deleting your Google and Panoramio account, please visit this page.

7.5. I do not want to be a Panoramio member anymore, how do I delete my account?
Go to the Panoramio settings page and delete the account by clicking the link found under the headline “Delete your account”. Deletion of the Panoramio account will not affect your Google account.

7.6. Do I really need a Google account to use Panoramio?
No, you can sign up to and use Panoramio without signing up for a Google account. However, you will not be able to use all the functions of the site without a Google account. Currently, the following functions will be unavailable with only a Panoramio account: Posting in the forum (but you can view it) and Panoramio Groups (see section 6.1.).

7.7. How do I connect my Panoramio account and Google account?
Please read this section of the help on how to do this.

7.8. How do I know when I’ve reached the 2 gigabyte limit? I can’t find any counter.
The 2 gigabyte limit applies only to unmapped photos. For mapped photos there seems to be unlimited storage space. There is no counter visible to users. So far, we have not encountered anyone hitting the limit in any way. Here is a forum thread on this topic.

7.9. For how long can I be inactive on Panoramio before my account gets deleted?
Your account doesn’t have an expiry date, so don’t worry about that.

7.10. Can two Panoramio accounts be merged into one?
No, I’m sorry but that is not possible.

8. Miscellaneous
8.1. There are other categories in the competition for the next month, than what I can vote for in the current one. Why is that?
There are four new categories for each month. See the blogpost for more information.

8.2. Are there any apps for Panoramio?
Currently, all official apps from Google that allows you to upload photos from your phone has been discontinued. If you do find and install one of the old apps, uploading photos will not work.  You may find other apps by doing a search for Panoramio apps for your device at your app provider.

8.3. What does; YS, Y*, Voted, V, L and LIKE mean?
  • YS and Y are abbreviations for "yellow star". In Panoramio people give each other a “yellow star”, to signify that a person or a photo has become a favourite. See 8.4. for more information.
  • Voted and V, is something some people say after they (might) have voted for your photo in the monthly contest.
  • L and LIKE mean that they have used the "like" button under your photo. Usually used to give you a compliment for your photo.
Sometimes YS and L are combined into YSL.

8.4. How can I add a photo (or other user) to my "Favourites" gallery?
  • How to add an image to your favourites gallery: Below the photo title, just above the image to the left, there is a grey / silver star. Click on the star, and it will be marked (it turns to yellow). The picture will then be part of your "Favourites" gallery.
  • How to add a user as a favourite photographer: To the left of the username, there is a similar star to the one you find in the photo page. Select it so it turns yellow, and that person goes in to your "favourite photographers" list to the right on your gallery page.

8.5. I have a question, what should I do?
First, check this FAQ and the help section thoroughly, if the issue is not mentioned or you did not like the answer, try the forum. There’s a good chance that someone else has experienced the same thing as you, and the question may have been asked before. Use the forum search function and see if you can find an answer in an existing thread. Use an existing relevant thread to ask about your problem or start a new thread in the appropriate forum (Each sub forum has a thread with info about their function and rules.)
Most issues should go to the “Support and Feedback” forum. If you seem to be the only one reporting this issue, you might be the first one or perhaps the problem is at your end. Depending on your problem of course, there are a few things you could try before asking for help. Many problems seem to be solved by logging out from Panoramio and the Google account. Delete the cookies and browser cache and log in again. If it doesn’t work, drop by the forum for a chat.

8.6. Is Panoramio present in any kind of social media?
Yes. There are several Panoramio pages on Google+. None of them are run by any members of the Panoramio team. But some of them are run by forum moderators and trusted Panoramio users. These are the current trusted Panoramio Google+ pages:

Panoramio (Official Google+ page, run by the team.

Fan made pages (most are run by forum moderators)
Panoramio Magyarország (Hungarian)

As far I know, none of the Panoramio Facebook pages are run by any trusted Panoramio users.

8.7. How do I contact another user?
Unless the user has provided an email address, there are two ways of contacting a user through Panoramio. Use personal messaging (PM) for private communication. For this to work, you must be a Panoramio member, and both you and the other user must have PM enabled in the settings. A PM will be delivered to the receiver as an email. You can also drop a comment under one of the user’s photos. This form of communication is public and the user will also receive an email with the comment if this has been enabled in their settings. If not, you must trust that the user checks the user gallery for new comments. If you don’t get a response from the user, this could be because email has not been checked yet or the user ignores your request. Please give the user time to respond, not everybody is checking their email very often and they may not be active Panoramio users. If you get no response at all, I’m afraid you must leave it like that, unless you want to contact the user for legal reasons. If so, please call your lawyer to fix the issue.

8.8. I have this nice project going on, and several Panoramio users have a lot of awesome photos that I want to use in my project. Can I just ask Panoramio for permission to use the photos or do I have to ask each of the photographer separately?
All photos uploaded to Panoramio belong to the users and Panoramio doesn’t have an agreement of the use of the photos beyond what is stated in Panoramio’s copyright policies.
This means that you must contact each photographer for the use of their photos. Please note that users can choose different copyrights for their photos (all rights reserved, creative commons, etc).

8.9. How do I add an avatar / profile photo to my Panoramio page?
Enter the settings by clicking the settings link at the top right corner when you are logged in to Panoramio. Once inside your settings page, you can upload a profile picture from your computer.

8.10. I was about to make a comment under someone’s photo, I entered the captcha and tried to post when I suddenly got this message: You have reached your daily quota. Come back tomorrow for more action. What can I do about this?
This is a mechanism to prevent abuse, it’s made to make it harder to be a spammer or one of those who sign up just to spread propaganda or hate comments. This limitation seems to apply only to those with less than ten photos in their gallery. To continue to make comments, either try again a day later or add more photos till you have ten photos or more.

8.11. I won a prize in the monthly contest. How can I claim it?
First of all, congratulations! The team will contact you by the email associated with your Panoramio account, so stay tuned. The team is a small group of people who sometimes are very busy, and I’m sorry to say sometimes it may take a while before you are contacted. It may take months. If that’s the case, please make a post in the Support and Feedback forum and ask for your prize.
Before you can hold it in your hands, a lot of things must go smoothly. If you live in a country under trade embargo, you cannot receive your prize because of trade restrictions (see countries here). Also, Panoramio uses Amazon for shipment. Therefore you must also live in a country where Amazon can deliver consumer electronics.  The prize will be sent to your address if it gets through the customs at the border of your country. So, if the customs contact you about some shipment, it could be the prize from Panoramio. Depending on the rules of your country, you may have to help the shipment through the customs. Because of that, it could be wise of you to learn about the rules concerning the customs in your country. The team may also be interested in the info you have. Please be aware that from June 2013, the monthly contest is a no prize contest. Please read the contest help for more details.

8.12. I have a problem and want to get in contact with the administrators of Panoramio, how to contact them?
Please make a post in the forum where you explain your problem and request contact with the Panoramio team. A team member may find and respond to your post, or a moderator may ping a team member if it’s urgent. You should only request the teams attention if you believe that your problem can’t be solved in any other way. The forum should generally not be perceived as a hotline to the team.

8.13. Is there a list over user created tools for Panoramio somewhere?
Yes. Take a look here.

8.14. Someone posted some kind of advertisement in the forum, is there a way for me to report it?
Please post a link to the thread in question in this thread. It’s monitored by moderators, and is only used to report issues which needs moderating in the forum.

8.15. What can I do when someone is spamming in the comments under my photos?
Spam is bad! You can read here and here for information on how to handle this.

8.17. I have problems using some of the new features in Panoramio. Why don’t these functions work on my browser when I’m using the latest stable version?
When the Panoramio team are creating some new stuff for the site, they are using web standards which are valid and agreed upon. Problem is, not all browsers are supporting all the web standards. This is why you can use all functions on some browsers, but not on all. You can check web standard browser support here. To use the latest Panoramio features with your favourite browser, you must wait till it’s been updated. Until then, use a fully supported browser.
