knowing that different ways of explaining can help people to find their own best solution, I give you the explanation I gave in the German and Dutch fora.
There is an other explanation here, pick the one that works for you!

Placing photos in the forum is not the easiest thing, especially if you want to link your picture to your photo page.
I'll try to clarify it here, with pictures

PHASE 1

click on post reply, then the window where you want to write opens
click on the blue rectangle

a small window opens. Write in the URL box http://www.panoramio.com/photos/small/xxxxxxx.jpg , where xxxxxxx is the photo number

click select

END PHASE 1

Now the photo is in the text box. you can leave it like that, but when you want a link to the photo page

PHASE 2

click on the photo, a small lightblue window opens.
click change

A small window opens

Write the URL where the link should lead to, usually http://www.panoramio.com/photo/xxxxxxx

Click OK

END PHASE 2

extra:

Photos will be placed in the middle. If you position the cursor before the photo you can click "align left" on the bar above the window.
If you want to put photos side by side, you first have to load all the photos and align them left.
place the cursor after the first photo, enter a few spaces, delete until the second photo jumps behind the first, cursor behind the second photo, etc.

Print it John while can see it and put it in a file. That's the safest.

Thanks Herman, I uploaded an image in another thread, using your tutorial, and it worked.

Herman, I don't know if it is only on my PC, but after I have pasted the image URL in the small window and haved added "small" in the URL, I have to change "photo" to "photos" and the "jpg" at the end has gone and I must type it in again, otherwise I get a message that the image is not recognized. But it works for me now.

yes Daan, that´s what it says

the second time, for the link, http://www.panoramio.com/photo/xxxxxxx

of course you can do it by copying , pasting and altering the address of your photo, but i didn´t want to add an other step which would make it more complicated for some of us as it already is.

glad it works now!

Thanks Herman. In Afrikaans we have a saying "Die agteros kom ook in die kraal." Or, the last oxen eventually also gets into the shelter. As one of the ladies in our office would say: RTFM, or "Read the F#### Manual!"

Hello hvbemmel
How to insert a photo which is only in my computer, that is a photo not published in panoramio and which can simply exemplify?

Thank you

You can only do that if your computer is set up as a web server. To do that you must install server software on your computer and run it as a server with permanent internet access. In this forum, you can link to any photo uploaded to the internet if you have a valid URL for the photo. Just paste the URL of the non Panoramio photo in the URL field as indicated in hvbemmel's instructions. If you want to add your own photo this way, but not from Panoramio, then you must create an account at some other image sharing site and get the URL from your uploaded photo.

You have a Google+ account, so the simplest way is to upload this image to G+ .

Go to the photo you want to upload, go to your explorer, rightclick on it and click uploading to webalbums (or something like that, my explorer speaks Dutch). The photo then will be sent to a G+ album called "dropbox". In the forum you now click the insert photo icon and "your photos". Your G+ albums will be shown. choose dropbox in this panel and select the image. done.

Hi Herman, for those of us who refuse to connect our Panoramio to our Google+ account ( I do have a Google+ account), what is the official method to upload photos to the forum threads? I know there are some Micky Mouse type ways, but please advise us poor Pano members what to do. What is the "team's" official recommendation on this issue?

From the beginning this is a "forum" where you need a degree to understand how to post a photo. Well it is a photo site isn´t it?

Of course you only can upload photos that are not on copyright from someone else. The Panoramio photos are the most difficult when you want them linked to your photo in the gallery, because there are two addresses the way to do that is described in my first post here.  you also can use http://www.rstamp.karoo.net/image-post.htm

without linking to a Panoramio photo paage is rather straight forward. Everything is under the little photo to the left of "link"
You can upload a photo from your computer, I don´t know how that works when you don´t have G+, there is an option to upload from "your photos" also G+ and you can use an internet address (URL)

You can have a Google+ account without having it attached to Panoramio! I do hardly anything with G+ except uploading screenshots for Panoramio and some privae albums in former Picasa. The whole so called "social" part of G+ is not my thing.

A teams recommendation for uploading photos? well, we asked again and again to make it simpeler until we stopped asking.

Thank you Herman. I got it now. I just was confused with the new Panormaio forum. It looks slightly different and take the user to a different default location for image insertion - "drag a photo here". Now it's all good. Just goes to show that old dogs can not learn new tricks.

Hi David,

main trick is... if you are in acrylic or classic Panoramio.
In classic Panoramio forum, you can only put link to photo into forum post.
In acrylic version, you have more options how to insert photo - you can choose from different sources of photo. One of them is still same link.
Another one is to search for the link via Google Image Search. But in fact, you will insert link with search engine assistance.
Next two options Upload photos and Your photos have something to do with G+, I think.
Upload photos allows you to retrieve photos from your computer (via File Open dialog or by dragging the photo onto drop area). Photos are in fact uploaded to your G+ account into album Drop Box.
Your photos allows you to browse your G+ album for photos and select photos from here.

I guess, Panoramio users without G+ connected with their Google Account (or users with legacy Panoramio account e.g. non-Google Account) don't have these options.
Note: options are available even without "upgrading" Panoramio Account with G+. Think of Google Account as umbrella for all Google services... so if you you use services like forum (Google Groups) and G+ under same Google Account, these services can cooperate.

Tomas, thanks a lot for your detailed explanation. It's all very clear now. I am using the new Panoramio 100% and get frustrated whenever I bump into walls. Well, I will eventually learn how to be happy with it. Cheers, David.
