Hi:

Running Win XP Pro and IE 6.0.2900.5512.xpsp_sp3_gdr.090206-1234. Search
Companion only works in SAFE mode. When I run it while the PC is in normal
operating mode, the dog is animated until I start typing, and then selecting
SEARCH causes the system to freeze. I can only CTRL-ALT-DELETE to stop the
SEARCH program.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

Not sure about the hyperlinks to my other issues that you have included. MSRT
found nothing. I have AVG 8.5, Spybot S & D, Malwarebytes, Spyware Blaster--
I have not had a malware/trojan/virus issue in years. Definitions are always
up-to-date.
I GOOGLED this issue for the Search Companion and all suggestions have been
tried to no avail.

Continue with Steps #2 and #3 in my reply to your thread in Windows Update
newsgroup or open a no-charge support incident.

I apologize for being confused: my Search Companion issue and Windows Update
error/failure are being combined into one issue despite posting each issue to
a separate newsgroup?

No, I suspect that all three of your issues (Search Companion; Outlook
Express; Windows Update) might have the same cause: Hijackware infection(s).

You needn't tell the MS support tech about the other two issues. If the
tech can help you get your updates working again, chances are everything
else will be working again, too.

PS: Don't be surprised if the tech recommends a format & clean install.
