Ok, but is there an actual list? You know a list type of list. A bunch of individual items or entries, complied into a coherent sequence.

Good morning!  I'm a new join to the group.
As a newcomer to a long-lived listserv, it's a little intimidating to ask what may turn out to be a stupid question.  Sorry.  I searched for a FAQ.  The only thing I see are some articles from Ian Joyce in 2010, and those links are broken.

I'm sure that the "list" in Triad Ride list indicates that this is a listserv.
But I'm wondering whether there's an active and maintained actual list somewhere that shows all the current weekly recurring rides in the area.

I mostly ride solo, but have spent some time with Easy Riders.  I'd like to find some additional group options that fit with (or stretch) my current riding.  It would be great to have a unified resource to find other rides on other days/times, rather than scattered email announcements in a listserv.  Does anyone have a link or other option to provide to help with that?

Thanks very much!
Bill D.

Hi Bill,

Here is a link to the Google Group itself. I think that is what you're looking for? If not, please correct me.

Bill,
Your post is very timely.
To answer your question about Triad Ride List, it is a Google Group list, which is very much akin to a listserv list, and for all intents and purposes, the same as a listserv.
It just so happens that there is a brand-new website being rolled out that is designed to meet the specific need that you expressed

The site is

The site is about 85% built out and is currently live while finishing touches are coded.
One of the primary goals of the new site is to consolidate group ride opportunities and event rides into one central place, easily browsable and searchable by all Piedmont Triad region bicyclists. More information about the site's purpose can be found at https://www.piedmont.bike/about
There are buttons at the top of both views allowing the user to toggle between LIST and CALENDAR views.

Currently, group rides in the Triad (and there are many) are listed in numerous disparate forums, websites, email lists, on Facebook, on Strava, etc..  Amongst other goals, https://www.piedmont.bike aims to encourage ride organizers to list their rides (for free, of course), to a central repository on https://www.piedmont.bike

I am currently rolling this out and communicating the availability of the site to stakeholders, including ride organizers, bike shops, and individual cyclists.
I need to caution that currently, the rides appearing on https://www.piedmont.bike are mostly being manually aggregated by me, which is both tedious and time consuming. Hopefully the site will be adopted by the Piedmont Triad cycling community and gain traction, with ride organizers making use of the site's free functionality, including the EVENTS calendar.

I was planning to make a general announcement about the site in a few days (after some coding changes and adding content), but your timely post prompted me to go ahead and announce it here and now.
By way of this post, all area cyclists, clubs, Bike MS teams, ride groups, bike shops, and area cyclists are invited to join the site.  Joining will enable ride organizers to post their ride events on the calendar.

Thanks,
Todd Smith

Great!  I think Todd hit more on what I was looking for.  Glad I could inadvertently help with the roll-out plan.

Bill,

Sadly, this is the best option. Up until about 2017 lots of different groups and ride leaders posted on the tryout at the ride list. Then many groups went more private, and some created their own websites and their own Facebook pages so road rides in the Greensboro area are very fragmented, but once you start riding a few different groups, you can pick up people’s names and contact information and learn about other rides. There’s probably five different Tuesday Thursday morning rides and five different Saturday rides and a couple different Sunday rides people just don’t post most of them.

Agreed. In Houston, they have a platform / app (www.chasingwatts.com) dedicated to cycling where people could sign up and see what rides are going on in the area on a specific day/time. Ride leaders can post the rides with the type, expected speed, the RWGPS or Strava routes and any other relevant information. Riders could then sign up to attend a ride. This was extremely helpful as people could see who was signed up to ride and ride leaders could get an idea of how many people would attend. I had hoped to introduce it here in Greensboro, since it's free and not geographically restricted but realized very quickly that the community is much smaller and much more fragmented than what I experienced in Houston. it would take a concerted grass roots effort to get it off the ground here. If anyone wants to take a look at the platform, please do. plug in Houston as your location and that will give you a good idea of what it looks like. Maybe someday we will have a single place where all the rides are posted, but for now, this is what we got :)

Jim and Michael,
That is EXACTLY what https://piedmont.bike is designed to do, EXCEPT, unlike chasingwatts.com, https://piedmont.bike , in addition to ride listings, is designed and intended to also offer articles, discussion forums, classified ads, bicycling job board, discounts and coupons from local bike shops, and a whole lot more.

Jim, thank you for registering.  Just like chasingwatts.com, it will only succeed if the local cycling community adopts it and utilizes it.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed... only time will tell.
thanks
