Bill,
Your post is very timely.
To answer your question about Triad Ride List, it is a Google Group list, which is very much akin to a listserv list, and for all intents and purposes, the same as a listserv.
It just so happens that there is a brand-new website being rolled out that is designed to meet the specific need that you expressed.
The site is
The site is about 85% built out and is currently live while finishing touches are coded.
One of the primary goals of the new site is to consolidate group ride opportunities and event rides into one central place, easily browsable and searchable by all Piedmont Triad region bicyclists. More information about the site's purpose can be found at
https://www.piedmont.bike/about There are buttons at the top of both views allowing the user to toggle between LIST and CALENDAR views.
Currently, group rides in the Triad (and there are many) are listed in numerous disparate forums, websites, email lists, on Facebook, on Strava, etc.. Amongst other goals,
https://www.piedmont.bike aims to encourage ride organizers to list their rides (for free, of course), to a central repository on
https://www.piedmont.bike .
I am currently rolling this out and communicating the availability of the site to stakeholders, including ride organizers, bike shops, and individual cyclists.
I need to caution that currently, the rides appearing on
https://www.piedmont.bike are mostly being manually aggregated by me, which is both tedious and time consuming.
Hopefully the site will be adopted by the Piedmont Triad cycling community and gain traction, with ride organizers making use of the site's free functionality, including the EVENTS calendar.
I was planning to make a general announcement about the site in a few days (after some coding changes and adding content), but your timely post prompted me to go ahead and announce it here and now.
By way of this post, all area cyclists, clubs, Bike MS teams, ride groups, bike shops, and area cyclists are invited to join the site. Joining will enable ride organizers to post their ride events on the calendar.
Thanks,
Todd Smith
