It's very small so I was wondering before buying. Thanks for any info on this. Please state if yours is brass or aluminum. Thanks.

I haven't used that bell but I know I wouldn't buy it. I dislike bells that use the striker on a spring. Every time you hit a bump the bell rings because of that spring. If you want a small bell, try this one from Spurcycle. Yes, it is a lot of money but I have four of them and they are the nicest bell I have ever used.

I suggest the Spurcycle bell. Best bell ever. It is worth the high price.  I have two, and need one more.  I got the anodized black ones. Very small and very loud with a perfect Dinggggggggggggg. Love them (no connection). The bell dome is steel, and made by a company that makes all kinds of bells. I believe this bell dome is their first bicycle dome and they did a great job.

To all Spurcycle Bell users: does it ding or ting or otherwise may ANY noise unbidden on medium or rough terrain?

I too like the Spurcycle and no, it doesn't strike by itself over rough terrain. However I like the Lion bell better, larger and the striker doesn't strike by itself, nice sound, expensive but good quality.I use the 2 of them for a dichotomous rhapsody.

Hi Patrick,
On medium terrain, there is no auto-dinging/tinging/ringing by the Spurcycle. It is appropriately loud, very nice sound, and very easy to use.

On Albas, I have a silver version mounted just forward of the grip and shifter (inside mount). This allows a simple flick of the index finger.

On Noodles, I have a black version mounted on the tops, and "backwards". I don't have any good pics of it, but you can kinda see it on the right side/tops in this pic:

I also have the Osaka Roadie Clip (brass)-- the one from Riv. It has a nice sound and easy (ingenious) connection. It's loud enough for MUPs/trails. It's probably not as loud as the Spurcycle, and I don't know if it's much use in noisy (road) settings. I have it attached to brake housing on my moustache hbar setup. It also doesn't auto-ring on medium terrains.

Good luck!
Shoji

Great the Spurcycle doesn't self-strike. Does the dome vibrate/hum though?

Patrick, it has a long ding. I won't write "a-ling" after ding. Ding....

Thanks, Clayton. I understand, and expect that, but without striking the bell, does the bell "a-ling" of its own accord from the vibrations of the road/trail?

Hi Patrick,
I'll check this out for you later today, but I'm not sure that my sensory system is well attuned to feeling bell vibration.

IIRC, the bell is suspended on rubber polymer that contacts the handlebar. On my Noodles setup, it also rests on cotton bar wrap. I think these would effectively dampen bell vibration further.

You need not spend $40 for the spurcycle bell ,  some of the small incredibells are just as loud  .  http://www.mirrycle.com/incredibell_bells.php

I prefer the brass duet version myself as it uses a small lever instead of a single note striker , producing the dual note. They have lots of variances, just make sure you select a brass one for the best note ! http://www.mirrycle.com/brass_duet.php

If you're a musical person, you may be less than happy with an incredibell.  I still prefer a good old Crane Karen (Bell 26) because the spring will make a flam on the bell and the bell rings like, well, a bell.

They make both large and small bells Ron .  The striker version being loudest and just as sweet as a Karen or any other Crane.  We're talking about small bells here though, at least that was what the OP was referring to .

It is a small, ting!-type of a bell- but hey, least it's brass! It's
virtue is in the clippy-ness - easy to move among your non-belled
bikes as needed. I have a couple of classic lightweight road bikes
that aren't bell'd, so this clips onto a lever hood with ease. You can
also clip right onto exposed cable housing, which is also nice.

It's much smaller than the other options outed in this thread so far.
Depending on your environment, I'd say it's just sufficient for
delivering a polite "approaching!" warning. Not so great for noisy
urban commuting.

Just make sure you cinch down the clamp firmly- I lost my first one
immediately when I took it on the trails.

+1 on the Spurcycle bell. The sound is much crisper than a Crane bell IMO. Also, the way it mounts is wonderful - no external bolts/nuts like other bells.

Frankly though, no bike bell is really all that loud , not really .   If I really need something loud, I'd do something like these

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9nonCqesLI

THAT gets your attention !  Ahahahahahahaahahahahahahhahaha !  !  !

no worries, Garth, but me and pedestrians all love the br-br-br-br-iiiiiiiiiiing the Karen bell makes - have it on 5 bikes.  Between and my buddy, tried a couple of Incredibels and I don't like their sound.  I tried that bar-end and it pinged incessantly on tar strips

It's really easy to slip a washer on the shaft between the bell and the striker. I have done it on a few of my bikes. It  completely solves the unintended ringing problem.

Hi Patrick,
I tried to feel for bell vibration through the hbars (w/o striking). I did this with the noodles and albatross bars. Honestly, I feel road vibration when I concentrate on it. (So much for my compass $upple tires!)

Sorry it's not very helpful.

Good luck,
Shoji

(P.S. Looking at my family's bikes, I realized I have soo many bells! The two-tone, which I kinda like, and is very easy for the kids to use. The plastic spinning one, which is a fine toy, but not a bell and is on my kids' bike and scooter. The VO striker, not a Crane, but nice. Crane spring, not striker, version... which auto-ringed 'til I couldn't take it anymore. Very nice bell dome, though.)

I do like the Spurcycle bell for its size, it's cool stainless construction and its unique, shrill ping.

But something about the Crane brass bell... that sustained DINNNNGGGGGG...  brings joyful smiles to every living thing within 100 yards...

This.   Mini-gongs for your bike.    I've got a Crane on each of mine.

One day on the Creeper, I was catchin' up to a couple of ladies, so I rang that I was approaching to pass;  one of them was beside herself upon hearing it... "I just LOVE that!!!"; just letting her know I was going to pass but instead brought a big smile to her day...

Double dinger has such a wonderful sound. Crane lever hammer bell plus springy, mounted next to each other on the stem, thumb and forefinger
