Dear Young Fellows
We, the people fielded a penal against sitting body in the last elections fully suport the point you have raised, but my personal request would be to keep this debate away from the internet. We will fully supprot the cause, secondly the fee for non coumcil jourmalist remains the saem as the council members in all press clubs, the only difference is the right of vote, and this practice is already being followed by all other press clubs. Only PRO, and media coordinators of organisations of well repute offered associate membership on highre fee but that remains very limited. Unfortunately NPC body does not follow the norms, but one day will come all journalistic norms will be followed.

Many associate memebrs saying that they are receiving phone calls from 0512604158 to not participate in the protest or consultation meeting or whatever you name it otherwise their associate memebrships will be suspended. When council members enjoy membership @ Rs. 100 per year then why this discrimination against young journalists???

Dear all,
It seems that tussle between the young energetic journalists
(Associate Members) and so-called senior journalists (Council Members)
boils over in Islamabad as a protest demonstration by associate
members of National Press Club, Islamabad is scheduled tomorrow
(Tuesday, November 29, 2011) at 6:00 PM for decrease in associate
membership fee which is Rs. 1300 annually.
"This is totally unjustified that the management of National Press
Club is demanding Rs. 1300 ( @ Rs. 100 per month + Rs. 100 for
Membership Card) to the Associate Members. On the other hand, the
membership fee for Council Members is just Rs.100 annually. Can the
Governing Body tell why this double standard? " One of the angry
associate members yelled.
The protest is likely to be lead by M. Azhar, Qamar Zaman (Express
Tribune), Furqan Rao (APP), Zaigham Naqvi (Express TV) and Adeel
Warraich (Dunya TV).
The Notice copy is also attached which the protesters aim to burn in
fire tomorrow outside NPC as a protest against unjustified membership
fee.
Thanks,
Jawad

are meeting with the management and our respected seniors on this
issue. As u said this is un justified so we will convince them to
treat us equelly. U named a consultation meeting a protest. This is

dear all, i think that our NPC is rich enough to not make an issue of
Rs. 1300/- fees, we have seen that Afzal butt sb etc got donations
worth crores from different organizations and minister this year, a
poor and struggling journalists who are working under ten thousand per
month ( we all know we only get paid after several months) , how can
they afford to pay such a Rs. 1300, Mighty Afzal Butt sb is humbly

Officer bearers of NPC should tell where the millions of rupees
collected, last year, under the head of associate members fee, were
utilized. This is total injustice with the journalists (associate
members). In addition to that, a complete audit of press club accounts
should be conducted by a renowned audit firm to make transparency in
its accounts. The detailed lists of expenditures and income, through
various means including memberships fees, fee on account of holding
press conferences and government grants, of press club should be
displayed for the members.

| It is a pretty serious issue which merits immediate attention of all council members of the Press Club. I personally believe that a transparent mechanism needs to be evolved for grant of full membership to any associate member. Keeping the mechanism vague creates impression of a foul play. I intend to raise this issue at the upcoming general council meeting and press for developing a clear policy instead of continuing with an ambiguous stance only for the sake of petty political interests. But, before moving ahead with the grant of membership there should be an expeditious scrutiny of list of associate members to segregate the non-journalist element. Fully agree that if you want PR people to be part of Press Club activities then they should be placed in a separate category instead of putting them in the stream that would ultimately enter the general council. If that doesn't happen now, I fear there would be serious implications in a year or two and then we all would be fighting for cleansing of general council. My full support for the candidature of eligible associate members for full membership. Charging exorbitant membership fees from young journalists, some of whom aren't even decently paid, is unjust. Me and my colleagues would raise voice for you. Syed Baqir Sajjad Dawn --- On Tue, 11/29/11, Aijaz Ahmed <k_ai...@yahoo.com> wrote: |

There is a hell of negativity in the minds of our people; they always doubt and try to portray fiction as facts; same peole heckling against Imran Khan had branded Quaid-i-Azam as 'KAAFIR-I-AZAM', then they dubbed Allama Iqbal as nonbeliver, then these people had been abusing Madir-i-Millat Fatima Jinnah and praising General Ayoub Khan, then they kept on scolding Bhutto as an anti-Pakistan figuer, similar comments were passed against Benazir Bhutto; many third rated and so called journalists like Zahid Malik of Pakistan Observer termed her as an Indian agent; and now is the turn of Imran Khan; one should acknowledge that this is the last chance of survival of Pakistan and both Zardari and Nawaz Sharif have proved it twice and thrice that they are incompetent and dishonest; let Imran bold all these guys then God willing he would be able to form a brilliant team; I am a Kashmiri born in Quetta and I challenge that people from Quetta especially Pashtoons could do any thing for money; they could plant bombs, carry out killings and could commit all crimes, but their adult men cannot dance on the streets for money or under threat; but I noticed that so many people including old aged women were dancing in the public meeting of Imran Khan in Lahore; does it mean that intelligence agencies are doing it; all guys trying to defame Imran are actually trying to kill a sense of hope that he has given to the youth of Pakistan.

Faryad Bahi, let me be very clear to tell you that I am not member of any political party in UK or Pakistan, but kum uz kum its time our nation had a third untried force, I am not saying that the third force will bring changes, and as far as old face's goes if the leader is strict and clean I am sure the team will have fear to get involve in corruption.

Dear All,
Yes, in cricket you can OUT two batsmen with one bowel and that is LAST couple and the batting wicket, when 10th man out and 11th go to pavilion with him also, Technically 11th is out as well as he can't bat on his own,
In Pakistan Corrupt Politician Team's last men are batting and Imran's bowling............so there are chances of ALL OUT this team,
secondly, if agencies are behind Imran, so WHAT? When they support Nawaz,Zardari,Altaf,Asfandyar, Fazal ur Rehman, IJI so on.... its OK but luckily if FIRST TIME they support an HONEST person(so far), why our nation should not give him chance??
THINK FOR PAKISTAN NOT FOR YOUR PERSONAL INTERESTS PLEASE IT IS 21ST CENTURY AND PAKISTANI NEED CHANGE OTHERWISE ASK USA TO TAKE OVER OUR COUNTRY SO OUR YOUTH DON'T LOOK FOR GREEN CARDS ANY MORE

Dear all,
The take off of Online news agency was good but now its on decline and reason is it lost good human resource(journalists). Aneela Riazuddin is seasoned and experience copy editor and had great contribution in English service of the Online and after her resignation news agency would further suffer. The management of the agency should not only review their working conditions but should also give more incentives to their staffers so that they continue work with dedication and committment. We heard the agency has got lucrative PR contracts worth millions but a percentage of the whole money should also be spent on the working journalists. There is no doubt that ionline's rival news agencies are working well and getting more space in the print media.

I agree with Waheed’s views and there is no iota of doubt that the Online news agency were flourshing and was professional atmosphere in the organisation. But since Mr. Bajwa has taken over the charge of editor the dowfall of organisation started. Incompetant people are being recuited and in many cases, replaced with professional and hardwork employees. Those epmloyees who are good and quick in pleasing him with undue favours and compliments are on way to “success”. For example, Nisar and Manzoor Dar (Zia). All this has impacted agency standard and its output. The standard has gone down disastically. Unfortunately despite being such a senior journalist, Mr. Bajwa rarely writes any story and rely on pick-ups from various websites.
Such poor standards of journalism cannot be tolerated by professionals and that’s why, people like Aneela and Badar – pioneers of the agency – left it. Aneela has been mentor for so many young chaps in the journalism as she trained them to excel.
Afzal Bajwa has become a bad omen for journalist community. The employees are missing tenure of Sohail Sahab and Sidque sajid..
I appreciate the decision of Aneela Riazuddin and Badar.. and one more thing Bajwa will not leave the Online because he was getting Rs. 25000 to 30000 from nation and now getting more than One lakh from Online by pleasing the seniors through different tactics.
The seniors especially Karachi bureau are also worried about Online especially after Aneela and Badar left. So many good reporters have also left Online. Good and competent Sub editors have also left the agency just because of Bajwa.
God bless Online.

He is killer of pioneer staff working at Online, even long serving deputy editor Aneela Riazuddin resigned a couple of days before because of bullshit hiring of incompetent people on high salaries.

How are you all?
Press Pakistan is a good forum to debate issues. But unfortunately some friends, only to show their personal hate and professional jelousy, indulge in malicious character assassination of others.
Several journalists are using resignation of madam Aneela and his colleague to accuse editor online for their resignation. I have checked with Online colleagues. Aneela and her colleague had resigned on their own and they have never been asked to resign or sacked.
Online people say madam Aneela was given new responsibility in the office as such changes routinely takes place everywhere. But she and her close man, a former non-journalist, quit after their requests for long leaves were not accepted.
Those who put blame on the editor should also ask people in online how she affected performance of the agency. And how she had been victimizing her juniors?
And critics should also read newspaper in recent weeks and they would judge Aneela poor performance. And her so-called supporters must get information about Online people what problems she had created in the agency? She had crated rift within the staff members.
Journalists must use this press forum for healthy debate and not to malign others. They must first look at their own performance before calling others incompetent.

When council members enjoy membership @ Rs. 100 per year then why this discrimination against young journalists???

Though, am an outsider, however being part of the community, i would suggest that the GB of the NPC and the young journalists should resolve the matter amicably instead of plunging into an argument here. The journalist community cannot afford any further rifts.
The NPC governing body should consider the legitimate demands of the young journalists as they are our strength rather than a weakness. But in the meantime, with my advance apology, i want to tell my young friends that Press Club membership is not a right. it is a privilage, and prerogative of the ELECTED GOVERNING BODY of the club. it's not my observation but this is as per constitution of the press clubs. For instance, here in Karachi, there are over 5000 journalists, and i trust a majority of them, are true journalists, and they should be granted KPC membership. but unfortunately, various issues, particulalry financial and space problems, do not allow the GB to grant membership to all these journalists.
But, it doesnt not mean that i am opposing the entry of young journalists to NPC. my humble suggesstion is that the two sides should resolve the issue amicably and not through heated arguments here.

sir g same treatment I am meeting here for last almsot four years now, I am theone who introduced Afzal Butt in journalist politics, but they say I left Islamabad and went to Karachi to work in an NGO willhave to wait for two years, and now fourth year is about to start. Meanwhile a very dear friend of mine who went to England after marriage came back and his membership was restored while he was workiing on cash n carry store there, abd I during my Karachi stay did lot of journalistic work also.
As far as young fellows are concerned, they are right as some of t he new comers were given membership through transfer letter means and people who are in the profession for eight years are disallowed to be member and press club is charging annual fee of Rs 1600 whgich is against the norms, the only difference between the council members and non council members could be the right of v ote and nothing else.

Youyr view may disappoint many, and you may be right in th eunderstanding, but those who fulfills definition of a journalist shal be given membership after the prescribed criterian. But unfortunately we see many with fake journalistic credentials and reportedly the property dealers are member. For me those who earn 100% or major income through journalistic means.

AslamoAlaikum ,
Office bearers of National Press Club will decide about the fate of Associate
members on Thursday, December 8, 2011 . On November 29, Associate members were
gathered at National Press club and formed a ten members committee to raise
their concerns. Committee demanded
1. decrease in annual fee 1300 rupees ( which is totally unjustified )
2. devise mechanism for new counsel memberships
3. mechanism for the scrutiny of associate members
During last meeting with office bearers of National Press Club, they assured
that they will consider the demands of associate members.
All the associate members of National press club are requested to please gather
at Press Club tomorrow (Thursday) for their rights.
During last two weeks only 15 percent of Associate members have deposited fee
for Associate membership. We appreciate those who have taken back their
submitted fee.

Thanks Raja for sharing the NPC constitution. All Associate Members are requested to reach in NPC tomorrow (thursday) at 3:30 PM. It is clear that membership fee for Associate Member is Rs. 150, not 1,300... Every journalist should protest and condemn this cheat and fraud by none but the so-called leaders of journalist community.

Congrats to young journalists/associate members for having launched a very
focused, coordinated and motivated struggle to get their just demands met. Had
it not been for the Saturday's protest at National Press Club, this issue would
have gathered dust like it always had. The strength and unity of young blood
enviably projects how an announced agenda be overrun unscheduled, rules of the

Dear All;
In the General Body Meeting of the National Press Club Islamabad on Saturday the
members of "Al-Faeda" group who are not working journalists and are relying on
the ill-gotten money from the media Town including one infamous minion of so
called leaders namely Qurban Satti acted like gangasters; they physically tried
to prevent C.R.Shamsi from highlighting the genuine problems faced by the
community and to point out bungling in the expenditures of the press club.
These guys who dont need to work anywhere especially the outgoing Secretary
General Rana Aasim have claimed that they spent one million rupees on the Mengo
Party and similar amount was spent on the feasts served to media persons during
the cricket world cup; and some half a million was the bill of the sui gas;
these guys had spent 2.5 million rupees on the repair of seven computers that
had been gifted to the club;
Farooq Faisal Khan, Mushtaq Minhas are the guys who were loyalists of Nawaz Raza
Group or so called Dastoor group and had come to the Barna group like PPP
Patriots; and now these people portray themselves as the pioneers of Barna Group
despite being the blue eyed boys of General Zia; the entire community must
condemn their hooliganism which they demonstrated today as they stand exposed;
they have no answer o explain as to what entitles them to capture the media town
after having termed into a Cooperative Body; these guys have swindeled at least
three hundred plots in this town and are forcing poor journalists to sell their
plots to them.
The community must reject these fraudsters in the next elections~!!
Aslam Butt
| I was not present when the incident Aslam Butt has reported occurred, however, heard from many friends when reached in the general body. Such an action is condemn able, specially it becomes more condemn able when it happens with a senior like CR Shamis, an iconic figure for the journalists rights during last three decades. One must follow the ethics, and opposition must be respected specially with in the community as we always condemn politicians and others for being undemocratic. I suggested Afzal Butt to personally cll Shamsi sb and tender an apology. I hope this suggestion will be welcomed by ruling body and an apology to Shamsi Sb will be tendered. Whether Farooq Faisal, CR Shamsi, Mushtaq, Afzal Butt, Mohsin Raza or any journalist, we all are from the
same community and shall respect each other and take opposition part of the process. Regards |

Dear, i never heard such idiotic and baseless allegations before in my journalistic career, Qurban Satti is our senior journalist in is mid 70s and by pass heart surgery, still working for journalists community, He made possible recovery of salary of dozens journalists from Khabrain Group recently and every one appreciates that. C.R Shamsi is our ideal, and being a student of journalism, i want to be as honest and loyal as he is. No one even dare to abuse or man handle C R Shamsi sb, we respect him as our Senior. i request from so called oppoenets to come up with new and better story against Farooq Faisal and Mushtaq Minhas, and also be thankful to Asim Rana , due to his efforts you peoples manage to eat mangoes if this event would have been organized by Nawaz Raza sb , all mangoes would have been disappeared. regards

| Probably Kalbe was in deep slumber at the council meeting. I personally repeatedly asked for the number of associate members. The outgoing office bearers did not categorically disclose the number and wouldn't ever do it, because that alone discloses the real story. In private discussions they claim that the numbers of associate members are close to 1300 each paying a fee of Rs 1300. The amount collected under associate members' fees would have actually totalled Rs 1.8 million, but the income-expenditure statement showed just Rs 3,50,000. Where is the remaining amount and why did the outgoing president and finance secretary shy away at the council meeting from declaring the total number of associate members. --- On Wed, 12/21/11, Kalbe Ali <ali....@gmail.com> wrote: |

The main demand was not reduction in the fee structure. It is all faulty and the constitution needs some correction, no press body in the world gives associate membership to young journalists, basically new comers are every where callewd junior/non council members and the only difference remains the right to vote. All journalists whether senior or junior, council or non council members pay equal fee. Yess press clubs do give associate membership to PROs, the noteables and people works at press departments of different embassies.
Another wrong precedence/misdeed the NPC body hass done is membership of freelancers. yes they can give member ship to all journalists works with newspapers publishes from different parts of the world or the cpountry, but they should have some standing and fell under some criterean. Only those who have legitimate journalistic earnings or major portion of their earnings hould come from the journalism.
Only those can be given membership under the head of freelance who wokrs fpr leading organisations and in return they are heavily paid. No columnist of a C grade or B grade or even A grade newspaper can be given membership who is not being paid against his or her column.
We as the community condemn all political parties and other groups on their mistakes and misdeed, but we are not ready to amend ourselves. The present body and their bnew pannel is not ready to address the issue of associate membership, this is something which should be condemned.

Tell me if you were there and if you were there - is it decent to
shout and be a supporter of unlawful activity.
We are talking of collective good here – anyone can be wrong and all
the council members have the right to object but do you think that the
General Council is a place for mob politics.
The core issue is - where were those who are now discussing the
accounts and expenditures - in the meeting why did nobody raise these
simple issues.
Tell me - should we respect the rules – constitution and norms or it
is like free for all and ‘ jis ke lathi us kee bhains (buffalo)’.
And if you were there - people were not listening to Afzal Butt and
now they feel that many questions remain unanswered, you see the
meeting did not end abruptly.
If it ended without anything than why did people raised slogans in
praise of Esa Naqvi – that is the main problem all the leaders who are
now contesting elections under the banner of Mutehida panel felt left
out.
Now they are eating grass and left to the emails only..
And all those who know me – I am always friendly with everybody I
respect the seniors and behave politely with juniors - but never
compromise on collective issues- I have stood steadfast wherever I am
for the community.
This is more than true for all the Journalist Panel and the RIUF- PFYJ but
How many of Mutehida Panel people are seen under the summer sun or in
winter rains, speaking for the community.
Best
