I am using

Mac OSX 10.11 el captain
SRT 200 stentura machine.
Serial drivers (the driver shows up on mac so it should be working)
Plover newest build.

Is there something I am missing or something I did wrong?

Also, I forgot that I also switched the port to my serial port in configurations. Still not working.

I also forgot to say this, but the red light isn't turning on when I hook it up to my computer (not sure if that is how it works).  The green light is on however.

Hi,

Can you be a little more precise as to what's "not working"?

Is the machine connected?

- if not, what's the error message? (there should have been one).
- if the machine is connected, what parameters are you using for the
serial port? Someone else mentioned using 9600 bauds for the Stentura
200 (see: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/ploversteno/NbOBi9Tk9fs/iG8avkzaKPQJ).

Cheers,

By not working it says stentrua disconnected regarding plover. I have the bauds at 9600. I am thinking I might need a real time cable, but I am not certain.

According to this post, you do need one:

Thanks, I am thinking about purchasing this. http://www.stenoworks.com/realtime-cable-stenograph-stentura-serial-cable-kit-12-feet/ By the looks of it this will bridge the usb to serial cord to my computer. Unless I am mistaken.

Hmm.. Maybe this is the problem I'm having with my Protege? My computer recognizes the hardware but Plover won't connect to it. The cables linked here are serial to serial though, and I don't have a serial port on my laptop. Do I need to add an adapter as well?

Magda, at the moment Plover does not support USB Stenograph machines. Support is in the pipeline, but until then you can connect to your machine using a USB-to-serial adapter in order to give your laptop a serial port. Do you already have a serial cable for your machine?

Yes, the cable I'm using at the moment is serial at the Protege and USB at the computer end.

Have you had Plover working with the machine before? You need to make sure that the COM port you give Plover is the one for your machine, you can check in device manager. (Assuming you are on Windows).

I have not had it working before; I just got the machine. I checked the COM port and it seems to be correct. I even hit Scan in the Plover config to make sure it had the right one and it's still not cooperating.

Does Plover report Disconnected in the status at the bottom of the window? It's possible to be connected and have the output disabled.

Yes, it says disconnected.

Have you had this machine work with other software before?

I hear you can set the machine into TX Bolt mode by pressing the 2nd and 3rd keys (from the left) at the same time, and the display should show a serial connection icon. Plover would need to be in TX Bolt mode, baud 9600.

I haven't used it with other software, but the machine itself seems to work fine. I'll try switching it into TX Bolt mode and hopefully that will do the trick!
