So ok, you have the opening credits by the grateful dead but only the dads in the audience know that is the Grateful dead, no one else in the theater knows that.
But right away they get a hint.
No one else does, so dad isn't leaving now.
So now the family is in the SUV the dad is driving, the kids are in the back making noise having fun, not arguing, and mom is saying aunt Clara is going to be so glad to see us, she bla bla bla bla and dad is driving, a duck just flew past the window and he got distracted, it looked like it came right at the window, and he slams on the breaks, and all of a sudden they look at where they are and the mom says did you miss the turn off?
And he says no, I don't think so, so here you see you are in a modern vehicle or a used one better be a used one right? From the time they now slipped into.
Not one with GPS and all the gadgets and now with a new SUV these are not rich people just normal people.
So they turn around and they are lost. Nothing looks familiar. Its a time warp baby.
But we won't play the song the time warp they have to figure out where they are.
But this is where you song comes in. And where the daughter has her cue to say what she said originally. About her friend at school and the time slip when she was 7.
The people are not weird like Twilight Zone as they pass them everything looks normal. This is not heaven remember they are in another dimension another parallel universe, and it is different. They go back to find their house and maybe it isn't even there or similar.
And so now it is getting weird. and so then they go to a motel or similar and you develop the story. They are confused. So you have to decide when to inject humor much since it isn't really a rom com, they had friends there and family there and now they are in a different world.
He doesn't even have a job they don't have a house and the only money they have is what they have on them.
So then he needs to get work in construction, she needs to become a waitress and the boy needs to meet the girl. The daughter is home alone in the motel and the song Maison which means house plays while she looks out the window or similar.
So they start to sort of get organized but they want to go home they don't want to give up that easy, so they try different things and then the library, and then they find out about the certain frequency that might open a portal if they go back to where the duck almost hit the car.
But between that and the motel you need to fill in the story with the love story and whatever strange events that are there that are different from their original world, like we call those The Mandela Effect. So Bernstien Bears is Bernstien Bears and underwear has the fruit of the loom cornucopia, these sorts of things.
and you can go deep in all of that but probably you shouldn't you can have those things there but who would think to notice it except the people who will talk about how great your film was with easter eggs and as they try to figure out what was really going on. So you want subtle clues that ordinary people would never look for.
It might be 30 minutes before anyone even realizes they went through a time slip if you wanted to do that if they drove a longer ways to get to Aunt Clara and got lost and wrecked the car by driving off the road and no one was hurt. But now the car is wrecked and they are lost.
And so suspicious people offer to help them so that you think it is about the suspicious people in this other state and not that it is a time slip.
They are weird but harmless and give them a ride into town.
Here you can have any weird thing in that town that doesn't exist anymore.
But there is one there. Whatever it is it has to be well known that it doesn't exist anymore.
And the music Time by Enya or clocks is giving hints. Then the daughter finally has it figured out and remembers her friend at school. And says they must have gone through a time slip.
So then they have to find out what that is at the library.
And from there they need to find someone who knows about this weird sound stuff and portals.
All the while developing the romance. And their two famalies meet and her dad is very protective because that boy just don't look right. I don't know what it is, but there is something strange about that boy.
And so then it is up to you how much action you want to put in the film.
and if they have to go back to where the duck is how does she thrust her hand through the portal? How does she get there? So you need to work around the key points that you want and so first you do an outline. To make sure all your key points are there in order. and the music will be where it is supposed to be. Then you fill that in.
Then you do your storyboards.
and you improve and improve and rewrite and write more then edit and remove edit again remove more make sure it is pleasing to the eye. Make sure it is beautiful when it is supposed to be.
If you really need some love song in there as they are walking through a field or something you can easily find something.
Since they don't get one at the end. And the conflict with her dad doesn't make room for love songs there. It is really hard to find a good love song. Really hard.
If it was a main theme. A film studio would get someone to write one. Like Tom Waits.
Think of raindrops keep fallin on my head while they are riding bikes is that actually a good love song? No it sucks and he is riding her on a bike on the handle bars and it always turns out that way unless it is a tragedy.
They don't make happy love songs. So if you have to use orchestration no lyrics.
Or
Enya - Only Time.
