Hi.

Looking for a simple (free) timer/stopwatch app that is able to count
out loud (counting until I press the stop button or counting down
from a specified time). So I can do exercises with my eyes closed, but
still keep track of the time.

Also, what would be a suitable way to find an app that matches such
a specification (like being able to count out loud)?
I can search the app store, but then I get 100's of apps in the search
results and one is even more pointless and useless than the other (with
pesky ads and stuff like that), so it seems like a waste of time to try
them out one by one just to find a suitable one.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

You might want to try a metronome app. It won't count, but you can
listen to it and count yourself with your eyes closed.

Well, the point is that I don't want to engage in any mental activity,
since it's a kind of meditation/breathing exercise where I try to
focus on bodily sensations mostly while keeping my breath.
Otherwise I might as well count mentally, but I'd rather just listen
to a voice counting for me while I have my eyes closed.

Maybe <https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tch.timer> does it.

Google using [ audible Android countdown timer ] as fishing bait.

After trying out a bunch, so far this one (*) suits my
preferences somewhat. It doesn't count out loud, but it can
be customized to a reasonable degree (with many available
sounds to signal the end of an interval) and doesn't have
too many additional unwanted features.

The ads are not too obnoxious in that app (small banner
at the bottom), but some free apps have extremely annoying
ads that start playing some video taking up the entire screen,
where you have to wait for 5 seconds before you can skip the
rest of the spam.

I often end up with general sites like appcrawler.com via google and
somehow it seems not a very efficient method to find specific
apps:

Maybe that one isn't so good after all, because it seems to suck up all the energy from my phone.

What the heck is that app doing? Mining bitcoins in the background or what?

Would be interesting to know why you want the digits counted out???
A kitchen timer will give you an alarm at the expiration of the
interval. No app required.

Well, it's not strictly necessary and that hybrid interval timer app
still suits my needs, since I can have my phone hooked up to the
powercable to avoid running out of power.
Still a bit suspicious that something simple like a timer app
should consume so much energy.

Like I said it's for meditation practice and meditation tends
to work better with the eyes closed when you're passively
observing the passage of time (by hearing someone counting)
rather than actively keeping track of time by mentally
counting.

I'm not an advanced practitioner, so I don't do those
breathing/meditation exercises under the ice, but just sitting
behind my comfy desk.

I take that back about the app consuming too much energy.
I think I had been browsing for apps for quite a while and when I
tried out the app I was already low on energy.

I know this question is for Android apps. However I want to throw this out their because the app’s feature set fits the description so well. Is an iOS app named voice countdown timer. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/voice-countdown-timer/id1357874791

It’s not free but sometimes it goes free for a limited time.

I use a free 1-click pre-set set of countdown timers (yes you can set them)
o <https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.terarisu.limited_timer001>
o <https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.terarisu.limited_timer005>
o <https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.terarisu.limited_timer010>
