1963 - John-Roger Hinkins

"[...] John-Roger is known to members of M.S.I.A. as the physical manifestation of the Mystical Traveler Consciousness (a concept quite similar to the Satguru in the Radhasoami tradition and the Mahanta in Eckankar). According to Roger's account, the mantleship of the MTC was passed on to him in or around 1963. During this time, Roger claims to have met Sawan Singh, the late Radhasoami Satsang Beas master. "J.R.", as he is affectionately called, holds that the Great Master of Beas was the previous carrier of the Mystical Traveler Consciousness and passed on the "keys to the Kingdom" to him on the inner spiritual planes. However, "J.R." at that time did not recognize the luminous being as Sawan Singh. It was only later when he saw a photograph of the guru that he placed the picture of the Great Master with the powerful entity he encountered in meditation. [....]"

Of course, at the end of the day/night each and everyone makes their own
individual choices (one way or the other).

btw you could also add in Colleens ex to as a spin off. there's many.

even more via the RS sant mat movement. and the hindu lineages - like wow!

This is what happens to all of them incl christianity, islam and judaism too.

As I said in another thread, seems to me each is drawn to one or another
option, some stay in those and other leave and it is what it is.

To follow the beat of our drum seems the go (usually)
Be it a rob or an etznab or a Doug, a fife, and even JR's easter bunny
or an atrocious henois!

There's that and well people do lie, some less so, and others make up
great stories to suit their 'occasion' and ambitions.

Be yourself, be cheerful and strive to be happy anyway. :-)

There are reasons for this thread and for that list. Many years ago my two main questions were 1.) On what day of the month was Paul Twitchell allegedly given poison? 2.) Who, or what was / is Rebazar Tarzs really? Those were my two main questions since beginning on this newsgroup. It doesn't mean I believe the most popular explanations for each question, but simply there was enough controversy to question.

I forgot about Paul Twitchell and poison a long time ago and the main question (for me at least) was about Rebazar Tarzs. So when looking at the above list I think something becomes evidently clear. That people make things up! Because I seriously doubt they can all be credible accounts of Rebazar Tarzs; if he is supposed to be a real person. If Rebazar Tarzs is not a real person then it makes a lot of sense to me how things could turn out the way they did. In one word, imagination! And I don't doubt other motives as well. IOW it is highly likely that what I'm dealing with here is a fictional character. And historically speaking there is a big difference between real characters and fictional ones.

And I think that list could have stopped with Eckankar many, many, many years ago if the truth had been told. IOW, none of those groups would now exist had people respect for researching what is true vs. what is false.

Paul Twitchell, the mondern-day founder of Eckankar took from many, many books a whole lot of text. He (and others) put it together in a unique way so people could read it and learn from it. And even today I think people can benefit from the information compiled so long as the truth be told not all of it is based on factual truth. So long as people know they are reading fiction. Reading about a fictional lineage of fictional masters. That, if this be the factual truth then why propagate anything else? For what reason? For what justification?

"That people make things up! Because I seriously doubt they can all be credible accounts of Rebazar Tarzs; if he is supposed to be a real person. If Rebazar Tarzs is not a real person then it makes a lot of sense to me how things could turn out the way they did."

That's interesting way to look at it. Those various spin off groups claiming RT
as their own. As well as the others Fubbi Quantz Gopal Paul Twitchell himself
and so on.

"supposed to be a real person." 500 year old tibetan chap. Appearing at will
to thousands and thousands in his "light body" as well as appearing 'physically'
too from some reports.

What if as a spiritual being he is 'real' and does these things? And said the
things spoken of by PT and all the others?

If he is 'real' then he is creating much confusion among the spin off groups
and eckankar. Who and which group does he support? If he supports all, then
what does that say? Is it possible given what the "masters" of each group
suggest and teach? What they say about RT and what they say about HK and
each other?

Seems to be a long line of "fallen masters" if that's the case. All but one
are not teaching the truth according to RT and PT. I wonder which one is?

Maybe see RT as a 'literary device' in the beginning and recognising the power
of imagination (of make believe) coupled with emotionally charged beliefs is
the real purpose of the 'teaching'?

RE "many years ago if the truth had been told."

In many ways it was told. Not too many ears heard it, not then and not today.

and the key people with authority sure didn't say it either. Maybe if they did it wouldn't have changed a thing ... these others groups would have arisen anyway. I think that's possible. Anyone can start a new 'church'. cheers

This whole thing is something I'm trying to see through a lens of true and factual history. That's how I want to see it, at least. Ever since my first inquiry into the dates and events people were arguing over here years ago. Much has been clarified or made clear, but there have always been obstacles. Like people who belittle the word truth and boohoo history, trying to put them into a position below and subservient to the word "spiritual" when a lot of times what people really mean is "imaginary". History is not imagined. It is a record of events that already happened. History, a true record of actual events and happenings, can be changed in the imagination and myriad religions spring up as a result. However, this is not the history I'm looking for. Not looking for the imaginary "whole truth" history. Not unless it helps to reveal how the actual history was manipulated and how exactly that was done. I think one can use the imagination to "fill in the blanks" of what is not known, but it can't be the only step. I think one has to see if it fits with other known facts, or if it fits with what happened in the real world. Additionally, I think one has to check and verify what they imagine to be true. Check and verify it against real evidence.

In the imagination I think Eckankar and all those others can be ideal paths where anything one imagines can be true if one believes it is true. And what this does is hold together a group of like-minded believers whose group integrity will feel threatened after one refuses to believe like them. IMO, this is part of the war dynamic in its infancy; like a spring compared to a river. Like a little spring of imaginations contributing to a single path, over time it will grow stronger and alter everything in it's path. It could turn into a mighty river that changes course, or that breaks up into and feeds other branches. It can alter the lives of whole nations and people. It can even lead to the destruction of the natural environment and life as we know it!

I think (sorry to say that so many times in this post) what is at the source of rivers, lakes and oceans in the real world is something real and true. If one changes that source then it's as if everything down the line changes as a result. This is why, IMO, history and cosmology is so vitally important to religions. Why master lineage is equally important. These are necessary in order to make the imaginary not only seem true, but these are ways to control what people imagine and believe!

And some say words are secondary to what is really important. When in actuality words are like the fount of religions. The appearance and sounds feed religions and ideologies. In the past and today they are used to convert and control whole nations and - if some people have their way - the entire world!

Finding out the true history of the cosmos is a tough nut to crack! Requires a lot of imagination and thinking outside the box.

Kids say the strangest things. Ever see those programs on T.V. Essentially there is a id who doesn't know the answer and proceeds to imagine one. It might be funny and good for ratings, but it doesn't mean the answers are true. And so I really think religions and science do something similar when they don't know the answers. IOW they make things up. Unfortunately they have a whole lot of clout to defend their theories. Even to the extent of failing students who don't go along, or marginalizing members of religion who don't want to believe based on faith alone.

Have you read some of the cosmology stories from antiquity. They sound just like children say the strangest things! Example:

[...] Kal attacked the heads of Kurma with his nails, and breaking his stomach, air came out. From the three heads of Kurma the dynasty of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh came out. Five elements came out, including the sky with the moon, sun and stars; they all came out of him. Matsya, Shesh Nag, Varah, and the pillars to support the earth came out, and in this way the creation of earth started. When Kal pulled the head of Kurma, sweat came out. [....]

"Kids say the strangest things."

THEY'RE ALSO TOLD THE WORST LIES.

They believe them.

It's sets the template for what comes later in life.

What are the groups on the list saying about one another? Remember that little spring I wrote about? Here is a small sample.
