Refined S240 setup!

Entmoot inspired! I now can fit my tent (big agnes seedhouse 2), sleeping bag (new JRB shenandoah), sleeping pad (neoair xlite), jetboil, clothes, and air pillow in my medium sackville saddlebag at 12.5 lbs. plus bike tools. Super excited. Leaves my front basket with a shopsack for food, toiletries, scenty things, whiskey, and other random items. ready to roll! now I just need to find a free weekend between now and 2030. anyone for a mt diablo juniper  or pt. reyes run in September (I know, its a long ways away, but I have 3 out of town trips in august! Still new to the bike camping with my new Hunqapillar and gear, but not camping camping.

also, anyone else just stuff their tent in the stuff sack? or is the proper way to roll it and minimize creases? both short and long term storage? I realize there's a million camping sites to ask this, but I tend to hang out here more.

Oh, forgot to mention, the whole reason for the change in setup was to get more weight from the front to the back, but my previous sleeping pad, bag, and stove took up the whole bag. Now I can fit more, smaller stuff and leave the front for food and small things. Luckily these are all things I needed anyway for future family camping trips with the wife and kiddo.

Makes total sense. Every time I pack my winter bag into my drysack as tight as possible I think to myself, "man, a summer bag would take up 1/4 of this"

My sleeping bag is my down jacket, pants, and booties. Works down to about 20˚F. Also, strapping things on top of the saddle sack works really well. I was told a long while ago that you want to stuff tent and rain fly to prevent creases. That's how I've been doing it for years. Also folding them is so obsessively compulsive.

It's a great feeling to have a compact camping outfit.

FWIW...If your in the Bay Area I suggest a quick overnight to Sam P. Taylor State Park. Then ride Bolinas Ridge. Absolutely amazing.

Mid to late September works best for me as of now, pending a parental visit that still needs to be scheduled, a possible job change, etc. I like the Samuel Taylor idea. But open.

Thinking Samuel Taylor on Sept 20th or 27th for one night out for anyone interested in joining (Dan, Roger, anyone else). Those that have been there can chime in if I'm wrong, but sounds like the hiker/biker site is first come? If so can I be safe in assuming a spot if showing up mid-afternoon on a Saturday? Or safer to reserve one of the legit spots that are reservable? Will likely pedal up after lunch with goal of turning around and back by lunch time the next day.

I've bike camped at Taylor several times and have always been told by other cyclists that no cyclist is turned away.
One time, the biker paddock was filled when another group of cyclists showed up. The rangers led them away, but I don't really know if it was to another site or out of the park. I've always chosen to think positive, and that they were tucked in somewhere.

It's supposed to be the policy of California parks with hiker-biker sites not to turn away bikers. I used to think that was the policy for all California campgrounds, but I was sent away from Steep Ravine after I unwisely showed up with no reservation.
