I've come to the painful realization that our tandem needs to go. The bike was lovingly restored by me and has seen many wonderful journeys. However, since our son was born the only time it sees any uses is when I use it to pick people up from the train station =(.

The frame is a late 80's or early 90's, beautifully fillet brazed Columbus tubing. Not sure what measurements are appropriate to give, but my wife and I are about 5"7 and 6" respectively. It has the original Araya 27" tandem wheels. The bike could be converted to 700c but the wheels have many miles left on them so I haven't bothered.

The cockpit features albatross bars, silver shifters and mountain style levers. Captain and stoker both get shellacked cork grips and Honey Brooks B-17's. On the rear I've got a stainless steel touring rack with a fancy Nigel Smythe trunk bag. This bike is equally ready to ride on an extended tour or a Sunday picnic in the park.

I'd like to get $1,000 as pictured, though I'd consider selling without saddles, bags etc if you prefer. I've spent considerably more building it up and I suspect it might fetch more on Craigslist or Ebay, but given the sentimental value I would love to sell this bike to someone on-list.

Located in Portland, Oregon.

That's an incredibly low price on a spectacular family tandem.  But please don't sell it!  Buy a burley solo trailer and go out all three of you.  Then, buy a Burley Piccolo when your son is a little bigger, then consider getting a kiddie crank so he can stoke for you.  Before you know it he'll be stoking for you without the kiddie crank!

I just finished that waiting game, and my son is now able to stoke for me on our Ibis tandem.  Let me know if you want a very inexpensive Burley Solo or Burley Piccolo, as my kids have both outgrown them.  :-)

Thanks, Bill. It’s good advice but we just sprung for a long-tail bike to haul kiddo and selling the tandem was part of the deal =(.

All that thing needs is a child stoker kit, and you'll be good to go for the next dozen years.

If my Burley Bossa Nova tandem project turns out even half as good looking as your Santana I'll be thrilled.  I hope you find a grateful home for that sweet looking tandem!

What a shame.  If you feel you have to sell it, you are way underpricing it.  I'd suggest at least doubling the price and listing it on Tan...@hobbes.ucsd.edu.  I'd buy it myself but don't know where I could store it.  Someone is going to get a fine bike at a great price.

I'll take as pictured it if you can wait until after the weekend. I'm working the weekend but can drive up from San Francisco after if available.

William,

I sent you an email yesterday - very interested.  Check your email for contact info.  Just want to confirm a couple of dimensions.

Hi David,
I have gotten a pretty overwhelming response on the tandem and there are a couple folks ahead of you in line. It’s likely I will sell it tomorrow, but I will let you know if anything changes.

Best,
William

If anyone is sad they missed out on William's beautiful Santana, you have a second chance. John Sotherland is selling his.
