Great idea. I liked the challenge of winnowing it to 13. Here's mine: http://www.flickr.com/photos/32311885@N07/sets/72157639587890584/

The experience of doing this was great! It's amazing to read some of my comments on the May snow photo and realize that section of trail was "technical" to me at the time. Yes, there are tricky parts, but I've ridden more technical since then and gotten my old 80's MTB skills back even with the vertigo.  Funny to think that before this year my main focus on biking was paved and dirt roads, and how much trail riding has opened up. I suppose I needed the first year to get comfortable on the bike and last year to push the envelope to trails. Plus seeing all the family trips and time with my daughters. I use my photos as my memory, and this was a great way to walk down memory trail! Grin. Thank you for the grand idea, Meade!

With abandon,
Patrick

Deacon,

Great images and obviously a wonderful year. Yes these images yours and mine are my memory too. Been busy but will hopefully have mine submitted by this weekend.

Good pics.  Here's mine.  Not sure how many miles, 3 flats, and nothing "epic".  Mainly just rambles around the city with a couple out of town adventures....still a good year (though I finished with a crash on December 31!).

Wow, really, 13 photos, that's like a Sophie's Choice situation! But here are 13 of my fondest memories from 2013: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclotourist/sets/72157639605650856

I started from a larger set that really makes me smile to look out.
Love flickr for just this!  http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclotourist/sets/72157639596500493/

Really, it was a fantastic year!

Cheers,

Thanks to everyone for sharing.  It's been fun seeing them all.

It was easy for me to select the first picture, a rainbow over Fairfax Falls, first photo  taken on my first ride with a new iphone.  After that it got harder.  Three trips 1:Michigan & Minnesota; 2: Quebec City & I'le D'Orleans; 3: California.  and of course VT.

BTW,  A question about photo sharing.  I've used Photo Stream but it automatically reorganizes photos by number.  So I've tried Picassa but see most everyone else uses Flicker.  Why?

Flickr: easy to use, easy to manage, easy to catalog, easy to share, easy to comment on. There's a critical mass of Rivvy people on it so able to use socially. Hybrid between photo-hosting sites and social networking sites. Easy to fall into a rabbit hold of looking at gorgeous photos.

Cheers,
David

Flickr… All the reasons David said. I was on Flickr, then switched to Picassa for a spell, but ended up back at Flickr because Picassa felt lonely.

The 13 pics for 2013 is a fun way to summarize and look back… both at my own trips/pics and others. "Hey I remember seeing these the first time around." We really do have a great community on this list.

The so-called "network effect."

But Flickr has other features as well: groups, and the ability to create groups.  Of special relevance to this list, in addition to the already-established Rivendell group we've created groups for the Riv Rallies East and also for the 2013 Delaware Water Gap ride.   The creation and administration of such groups is extremely easy, and it's a wonderful way to pull the photos from all the participants together in one place.  Also you can follow the photostreams of other members, and you can view photostreams, sets or group as a slideshow.  You can also search for photos or people.

Let's see what happens when we drill down and view one of the photos.  Here's one http://www.flickr.com/photos/norro/8651662543/in/pool-2169588@N24/ that was posted earlier in this thread: the Water Gap group at Buttermilk Falls.

Drill down to "View all sizes" and you get links to 12 different sizes, ranging from a 75x75px thumbnail to the 4000x3000 original, all of which can be downloaded (unless you choose to prevent that).  I felt like having a bit of fun with this image, so I downloaded a small version and made this:

Thanks Steve.  Try the link again.  I tried to change the settings, which I think might be why you can't open the link.  I think I'll retry doing this in Flicker to see for myself.

This is my favorite thread of the year! Everyone's photos are a real inspiration to me; I always want to take more pictures when I'm out on the bike, but I'm terrible at actually getting it done. My goal this year is to get better at that (taking better photos would be nice, too!). As far as riding goes, 2013 was a good year for me despite spinal neurosurgery in June (success!). I made several short trips around Puget Sound, Southwest Washington, and Portland, ranging from 2-4 days. I made four trips to Portland with my bike, including a 2 week stint to attend the professional mechanics course at United Bike Institute. Portland is an easy place to love when it comes to bikes... I finished out the year with an urban downhill alley cat that was great fun. I enjoyed being the crazy 'old' guy on the Rivendell! Here's my set:

I don't post very often, but I really value this group and appreciate all of your contributions. Happy New Year, and good riding in 2014!

Here are my 13 2013 Riv shots.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/rasterdogs/sets/72157639689052935/

'And maybe a few more' is a video slide show of the photos I took riding the 2013 Sierra To The Sea supported tour with pal Brian. I wasn't in great shape to undertake that ride but Brian was in the midst of training for an Ironman tri. He towed me through the portions of the ride where I was suffering. The Wind Farm was particularly notable as it was…well….windy - darn windy.

I'm fortunate to have a ~12 mile round trip commute to/from work and was able to ride that most days.

I echo Shawn's sentiment regarding favorite thread of the year and inspiration you are all that for me. I must confess I haven't yet viewed all the sets but have every intention to do so. My set was impossible to winnow down to thirteen so apologies but I just had too many great moments this past year. I met so many awesome wonderful people both on the list and in person who have added tons to my life.

Only 13 is really tough but makes sense, and some adventures have been documented by others.  So here's some of what happened last year:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/33786397@N03/sets/72157639730141166/

This is a really fun thread & it's fascinating all the different places people have been.  Let's make this an annual thing.  More interesting to me than "tried & liked" lists.
