Hi all,

Saturday was my bday and I went out for a pretty decent ride to celebrate. Ok, I didn't ride my Riv AR but thought others might still enjoy the pics of the sometimes rugged high desert terrain in these parts.  Enjoy:

If you are curious, the bikes we were riding were my Gunnar Crosshairs, and my friends were on their Kelly Cross and Fargo.

Cheers,

Fantastic! Beautiful country. Where are "these parts"?

Ahhh, the Reno area.  Sometimes I forget how pretty it is here until I look at the photos I often take on my rides.

Looks like you all brought the right tools for the job! Beautiful
area, is that riding distance from Reno, or do you need to drive out
to a trailhead?

That's a door to door ride for me.  About 40 miles total so not too long.

Awesomeness! I didn't realize that you such great opportunity was so
close by! I've been to Reno a couple times, and loved the city, but
didn't notice any of the natural surroundings that were there. My
loss!!!

Is that the Truckee River in the pics?

It is the Truckee.  Very near the state border between NV/CA.  Lots of good fishing in the area.

Addison,

Happy Birthday great way to celebrate. Beautiful country one of these days I'll do some riding out that way.

IMHO I have to disagree with the notion that the carbon set & full suspension set are the niches...at least in these parts SoCal it feels different. The Carbon set are the vast majority in the middle along with the MTB bombers and the All-rounders are the minority out in the hinterlands. But that's just my perspective YMMV. Thanks for sharing a great idea riding on one's Bday.

Hugh, I took Addison's insight as a reflection on the spectrum scale (like a political scale, for example) rather than an assessment of market share by each point on that scale. If that's true, then you're both right, just slicing the orange differently.

Right I think of it as a simple number line coordinate system when "0" is the mass and lets say All rounders are +9 and Track bikes (for lack of better niche) are -9. But since time and space bend it depends on your present location how that spectrum is perceived. We can slice it any way we want.

Best,

~Hugh

Deacon,

I love it when you quote Dr. Who. Was that not a great 50th show!

Ever since I gave up my desire for the show to be bigger on the inside than it is on the outside I've enjoyed it a lot more. Sardonic grin. Must be what I get for being a theologian spoiled by Tolkien. Grin.
