(Yes, yes, I just posted this five seconds ago and deleted the original post when I realize that I put the wrong date in the subject line. My apologies. -Shawn)

Hello folks-

Yep, I want to get in another Country Bike Ramble in Ye Olde Portland, Oregon before the rains start. This time I'm planning a more ambitious route in the ballpark of 30 miles. Even with the added length, we'll only leave the city once (and it won't be near where you think we would.) And hopefully this time I don't break a crank.

Here are the deets:

ROUGH STUFF/COUNTRY BIKE (IN THE CITY) RAMBLE
SATURDAY 5 OCTOBER
11am
Fernhill Park, NE 37th Ave and NE Ainsworth St   (meet at the corner of 41st and Ainsworth!)

A ramble exploring the "country" aspects in the city while riding "Country" bikes. Expect a good deal of gravel/dirt action, climbs (you can walk it if you have to), meandering, and places you didn't think existed. We'll have food/picnic breaks along the way. Ride a bike geared towards comfort, not speed, and one that can handle off-road elements. Moderate pace, no one left behind. Lycra and carbon, no, shellac and seersucker, yes. Longer ride this time, estimated 30 miles with 3,000 ft cumulative climbing. Ride not a loop, but will end near transit and beer.

Hope to see some of you there!
-Shawn

A few of us from the list showed up for this. Bikes were ridden in a "Country Bike" fashion. Good times were had.

Thanks Andy!

My few photos here:

Should have some sort of ride report this week.

What a great way to ride a city!

So bummed I couldn't make this. What a beautiful day. I'll have to figure out where Clapstop Butte is and go check it out.

I'm off the next two weekends so maybe some of us can get together for a Sunday morning ramble one of those weekends. Now is the best time of the year to ride Dixie Mtn.

Pictures from the first time I rode it years ago. One of the first big rides I did on my Hilsen. It's such an amazingly beautiful ride in the fall.

Naw these photo's don't make me jealous in the slightest...at least I get to live vicariously through these wonderful images of what looks to be an exquisite ramble, relaxation and other to boot.

Shawn always puts together a great ride. I love all the unknown streets and neighborhoods I discover with the Urban Adventure League.

I wish I was there for the whole ride, but I was preoccupied for the first few hours.

Great write up, Shawn, and it sounds like a great ride.  Perfect weather!  I'm sad to have missed it. Hopefully I'll make it to the next one.

Thanks, Aaron! I don't know if I'll do another "big" Country Bike Ramble this year, but may try something smaller, schedule and weather permitting.
