This mornings ride has been in my head for a LONG time, and the last week saw all the parts come together.

It should be of no surprise that when you assemble quality made, thought out, tried and true products...the results harmonize effortlessly.

I enjoyed one of the nicest outings on my bike this morning.

It's amazing how a short ride with a stop outdoors (a pipe for me, rather than coffee, waterfalls rather than ocean), relaxes and fuels the soul.

Also: love the mojo in the last shot. Did I just date myself by calling it 'mojo'? Back 'round 1990 it was a 'thing' at least among the mtb crowd I ran with. I recall that when my 1989 Rockhopper was stolen I was disproportionately concerned with the loss of my 'one-legged C-3PO on-a-noose' mojo.

I guess since there's no epic 'mojo photo thread' on the list, it's become a fringe thing... apart from the occasional rabbit's foot, anyway.

TOTAL MOJO!  We are peas from the same moto pod. Not only was it a 'thing' in our group too, but there were rules surrounding the acquisition of the mojo. 

-It had to be found or gifted, never bought. 

-It had to be found while riding.

-Once acquired it had to attached to the bike right then by whatever means was available.

-If it falls off during a ride, it must be buried.

-A new mojo can only be attached once the old one 'retires'.

-And for me, a mojo stayed with a bike if it moved on. The bike led to the totem, so the totem should finish it's journey with the bike.

Interestingly, my first one was a puffy sticker of "Mr. Jinxs" the cat from Pixie and Dixie. It's followed me in many ways since.

They are made by a climbing shoe company called Evolv. They call it an approach shoe but it's really just a beefed up rock shoe. Despite being super light and flexible, they work pretty well on the bike using a big platform pedal like the VP's. Since the soles are sticky climbing rubber, they grip the pins like glue! I think the model is "Cruizer". Size up at least a half size if you want them to fit even close to a street shoe. I used to climb so tight rock shoes dont bug me, and although these are for walking/hiking they are form fit.

Whew!  That's a lot rules!  Years ago, I found a metal Tonka toy dump truck on the side of Hwy 46 between Cambria & Paso Robles.  It was Real Steel, so weighed a few pounds (not the 21st century plastic stuff).  For some silly reason, I strapped in onto the top of my not insubstantial load, and carried on.  Another guy on the tour had a grandson who was about the right age for this, so I gave it to him.  No way was I carrying that monster! 

So is it permissible to pass along a "field acquired" mojo?  Or does that violate the last rule?  I'm looking at the "retirement" clause for relief. 

Do wrenches count?  For some reason I keep finding small tools but they don't have a lot of charm.

The only Mojo I would come to back with would be crack baggies or condom wrappers or empty cans of cobra malt liquor. Here in brooklyn you learn to leave stuff right where you saw it.

Hey Brad,

I'm not one for too many rules but can see the enjoyment when one finds said MOJO within those guidelines. I personally just like it when I find a totem that speaks to me while on the road.. Now I'll be thinking of the rules as I pedal and see what I see.
