SoCal Rivsters,

Created a poll for date and time for the Santa Monica Palisades dirt ride. I included Sunday's so as to include Bryan. If we do a choose a Sunday, I will need to start early like 8 am and be done by 12 noon...food for me but I'll be brew fasting, of course not you.

Here's the poll:

Looking forward to another awesome ride.

Thanks, Hugh! Sept. 29th works best for me, but the 22nd might work as well.

Hey SoCal Rivsters,

Figured I'd update the poll and firm up the ride specifics.

The poll is done and the winner is the 28th. Here is the ride thanks to Cyclotourist:

As far as a place to eat I submit this casual establishment it would be a back track of 1.5 miles but the total ride is a mere 27 odd miles so I don't see a down side.

Parking will be a challenge so I suggest we get there early, I think this lot will serve us well. Can we meet at 8:30 am? Or shall we chance it and keep the meet up @ 9 am.

Lot 10 North
445 E Pacific Coast Hwy.
Santa Monica, Ca
162 spaces

The information from Santa Monica City is confusing I found this PDF with locations and cost whether it's up to date is a guess but from this it appears that the cost is $7 for the day which you pay at a kiosk.

The Address above originally if searched showed you a location South of Santa Monica??

So I think that's about that. Looking forward to the 28th.

~Hugh

Hey Fellows,

Let me know if you'd rather do street parking or the lot as I scoped out. David is submitting this as a choice:

pete's on Montana & 14th as a staging area.
Street parking w/in a couple blocks, bike friendly spot.

Don't know what the parking situation would be like time limits and or Neighborhood permits?? Also the Restaurant idea is just a suggestion totally open to input. Here's David's input:

What say the locals to parking situation on a Saturday morning? Is
there enough street parking inland to accommodate us, or should we
settle on a city lot on the west side? That may be more central to
post-ride festivities.

Hey Bryan,

And any other locals to the Santa Monica area what are your thoughts regarding decent street parking on a Saturday?

Not sure about the parking situation. I ride to that area from my house (I'm spoiled). If you're going up Westridge, another option would be to meet at Peet's at the corner of San Vicente and Gorham in Brentwood. That's all City of LA street parking around there and might be more forgiving than Santa Monica. Then you'd ride San Vicente a few blocks west to Burlingame, to a short descent down Sunset Blvd. to Mandeville Canyon and then up Westridge. Gets you into the nice stuff pretty quickly. Coming back to your cars up San Vicente from the PCH is good because there's a great bike lane on San Vicente.

Parking in and around Peet's Coffee on Montana Ave and 14th Street is generally not a problem. Some blocks are permit-only, but most are entirely open to the public without time limitations. Just gotta peep the signs.

Good Morning Team:

I might have missed it, but have a final starting point and departure time been chosen? I have no strong preference, but I am hoping to join you.

Thanks,

Hi James,

Glad to hear you're in.

Couple of things, I spoke with Aaron a West side local and he explained that the climb is rigorous with some technical sections, he said there is a bail out point if needed. I personally have never ridden this ride but am game what ever the ride is..  This is a no rider left behind relaxed lots of stops for water, snacks, breather, bike geeking and of course photo opportunities Riv ride..DISCLAIMER: This ride will most likely take approximately 5-6 hours to complete not that that's a bad thing just saying.

Where to meet up? At Peets' on 14th & Montana in Santa Monica @ 9 am with a soft ride out at 9:30 am . This is street parking so check the signs. We can always find a parking garage as a last resort.

Aaron & James can you shoot me an email with your phone numbers.
