Sorry for the double post. Figuring out how my mailer handles this group.

Can someone explain to me the differences in the B-17 standard, special, and select? I've looked at the Brooks web site, and it is only confusing, at least to me. Their must be something different between them all? I don't know what I'd be getting that's different than just a plain B-17.

Thanks,

Reid

Hi Reid, I only see a single post... Anyways, the standard B17 has
black enamel rails/hardware, non-chamfored leather edges, and simple
rivets holding the saddle on. Possibly thinner, less select leather.
The Champion Special has copper plated rails/hardware, chamfored
leather edges, hand-hammered copper rivets, and possibly better
leather.

I have no idea what makes a Select model selective.

Select has highest quality, natural finish, leather - in addition the the features of the Special.

Does the Select not also have a hex adjustment at the nose, a la An-Atomica?
Maybe I'm thinking of something else..

In addition to below, the Select's frame and rails have a coarse matte black finish, presumably for less chance of slippage (?), or possibly as just another point of differentiation.

Also, as of at least a couple of years ago, the tension bolt still relied on the trusty Brooks spanner, though a hex head in the nose would sure be handy.

Interesting note, I had a Brooks tan B17 13 to 15 years ago and didn't have the patients for it to supposedly break in and sold it, then tried one again this year on my AHH with padded underwear, comfortable but when I took the suggestion to discard the padded underwear and just wear the Devold or like wool underwear the Brooks amazingly was even more comfortable.

Best,

~Hugh

Thanks for the info, everyone. The prices when new (Brooks web site) are interesting considering the fairly minor diffs between models. Still, I might just be ready to finally try a Brooks.

Mike, yours will be at the top of my list if I decide to do it.
