Looks like someone is doing some spring cleaning:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rivendell-Legolas-Cyclocross-Frame-Fork-/361304471976

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rivendell-Ramboillet-Frame-Fork-/361305024287

And they're in the most popular 58-59 size range!

that orange Legolas is beautiful... and my size!   If only it fit bigger tires in the back.

It's close enough to my size to make me think about it! I wonder if it
would fit MSOs or Nano40s... if so, it would be a great replacement
for my Riv Road and set up as I use mostly. I could keep a light road
wheelset for the times when I want to do pure road, rather than an
entire bike for that purpose!

I think 38 in the back is max.  Bigger than your Riv Road so it's a bump up!

I run Schwalbe Marathon Cross on my Legolas when I want knobs. They measure at just over 38 inflated and there is only a little clearance left. You might be able to get a 40 in, but it would be snug.

BTW, the seller is an occasional poster here and a riding companion. Good guy and good bikes.

I like threadless, but with a tall steerer, so check and check! A bit
small though, so who knows...

I think those are Matt Isaac's frames. He gave me a heads up that he is selling the Ram frameset I sold him not too long ago and mentioned the Legolas.

I'd be interested in the Legolas, but I have another fatter-tired dirt bike on the board at the moment.

The Ram is a very nice bike, but for me, as for Matt, apparently, it wasn't as swift as would be optimal. In my case, it rode fast but handled somewhat more slowly than I like.

Still, a nice frameset. I'll be interested to learn if someone onlist buys one or t'other.

Absolutely.  My bikes are all red, white, blue, or a combination of those (well, until I blasted the tricolor USA paint off my KOM).

I must decide whether to get in on the bidding for this lovely Elvish bike, or to check out a coppertone orange '74 Paramount P15 on nearby Craigslist...

I'm trying to think how this would be different than my current bikes.
HIgher BB, slightly lighter tubes, vertical dropouts, threadless
steerer compared to my A/R Those are all net positives, but not huge
deals. Pretty similar. Compared to my road model, it would let me put
on fatter tires, along with threadless steerer, that's about it. I'd
like to be able to ride fatter, and make that my go-to bike. Then
maybe sell/trade my 'rounder for an Atlantis, but I do like the bikes
I have. Minus loaded touring as per the other current conversation :-)
All that said, not sure I could justify a new bike. But sure to like
the idea of one!

Not me, I stayed out of the bidding.

The Legolas was really tempting (and a nice price). But, it wouldn't bring any new capability to my bike fleet, just divide it more finely.

I was also scared away by the lightweight tubing, as I'm #220.  I already own a .7-.4-.7 bike, a 90s Giordana XL-Eco.  That bike planes wonderfully; the frame is springy rather than noodly.  But I ride it only on flat pavement.

In my ownership, the Legolas would get bounced all over the B-roads around here (think Dirty Kanza), and I wouldn't want to thrash a beautiful, limited frame under my enthusiastic bulk.

And I don't have that kinda money just burning a hole in my pocket.

Congratulations to the new owner!

Those are nice!  First gen Rivs have beautiful lugs.

Speaking of old Rivs, did anyone score the Riv Mountain bike that sold on Sunday?  I was interested, but not once it went above $1k.  It would have been a great gravel/adventure bike.  Like my KOM, but in much fancier clothes.

There is a whole mess of damage and it would also benefit from a reprint. I a made what I felt was a really fair offer and it was declined so I think that maybe the price they want is just unrealistic.

The lettering on the down tube is odd.  Anyone seen that before?  Missing headbadge; missing eyelet.  And the 56 TT & 53 ST seem an odd combination; maybe custom?  It would be a good bike for one of my daughters but it'll take some dough to get it buildable.  I do know a kid in Redlands who'll be ready for this in only 2 or 3 years.

Ha! I don't spoil my kids quite that much!

I bet the 53 ST is center to center, so probably more like a 55 center to top measurement, which would go with the 56 TT. At least that is my presumption.

That's the original Riv lettering with the spear through it. The All Rounder was the successor to the Bstone XO-1, which the numbers seem to reflect here. The 52 center-to-top XO had a 55 center-to-center toptube. I'm pretty sure this is a first generation A/R.

All right, I pulled out the RR3 for the geometry chart of the first gen. AR's!

The 52.5 C-T size had a 55.5 cm top tube.

The 54 C-T size had a 56.5 cm top tube.

The seat angles were a shockingly steep 72.5 degrees, and the head angle was 73 degrees. 42.5 cm chainstays. For rake 38 mm. BB drop is 45 mm, and the rear dropout spacing was 132 mm. Description says it could do 26 x 1.5" with fenders.

I hear ya. I'd love to have an original A/R - I like those lugs and the old Rivendell decal - but I'd never be able to talk myself out of dumping big money into restoring the frame and paint. Which means the frame can't cost too much to start with, and the seller rejected my offer. Oh well, I have nice bikes I'm already struggling to find time to ride, so it's probably for the best.

That is tempting.  My wife's Atlantis is also a 47.  Wonder if she'd complain about having a second Riv?

The scuffed up RD suggests it's been down at some point.  Overall the build ain't bad but the double could be a talking point.  "Flight Deck"?  Hmmm......No rear rack eyelets?  Still, the price is pretty attractive.
