Don't know how they'll wear, but initial blush is all positive!

Also, best name for a tire ever.

When I design my perfect tire, I'm going to name it the Obi-Wan Knobby.

"Thunder Burt" is probably the name for North America, and they're "Thunder Thor" or some other European mythical character in Germany.

Yea, Obi Wan Knobby would be cool.  Just watch those movie people & their IP lawyers!

No, the best named tire ever comes into existence when you use a marker to change the last R to a T.

Just call it the OB-1 knobby.  And it's Bridgestone-esque.

Perfect!

Hmm, they look like fun. 49 mm you say? I wonder if they'd fit without fenders on a Hillborne...

Actually the names are the same in Germany... and kinda goofy sounding to me..   I have a set of 650B TB's also, probably won't install them until spring when I take off my fenders though. Maybe sooner.... glad to hear they are working well.

Good idea to keep the fenders on this Winter...

Just in case our current seasonal rainfall total of 0.97" doubles or triples any time soon.

When I bought my Atlantis, I said that I would put fenders on next time we got a wet winter.  11 years later it remains un-fendered.

You inlanders don't have to deal with coastal fog. When it comes in the roads get all wet, especially in shady sections.  It's my cross to bear.

Put yer Obi-Wan Knobby's on your Rivendell Bombadil and thumb your nose at both George Lucas' AND Peter Jackson's IP lawyers (probably the same firm anyways)!

David,

Glad to hear they're working for you. I may go with these for the Atlantis in 26" at the least that's the plan.

My vote is for the OB-1 the perfect tire name.

I think they would be a good choice if you're going to be on asphalt a chunk of the time. Spin really fast. They slip out a little while climbing out of the saddle, but that's the price you pay for fast on pavement.

Yep there's always a compromise. But thanks I'll be ordering them in the near future. They sound great.

on the Thunder Burts?   ...most knobbies will slip climbing out of the saddle, too much weight on the real wheel... try sitting on the nose of the saddle to keep the weight more balanced.  That's why WTB designed their saddle with a dropped nose.

Yeah, I can focus on keeping them in contact, they just slip out a bit more if you're not paying attention. Again, not a bad thing, just a bit less grip than some Nevegals!

My custom  http://www.flickr.com/photos/37347002@N05/9720289102/  will fit a 50 mm tire with fenders.  That's good enough for me.  The rSogn looks a little funny with hetres and no fenders I think. I used a PBP crown which is about 62 mm wide where the tire max width is.

Sounds like you need a Rawland Sogn so you can fit 2.1s + fenders :)

Please test and review the Panaracer Driver Pro 27.5 next.  kthx!

Just kidding, but I am refreshed by the fact that the Panaracer Driver tire is a nice looking folding 650B knobby, that can be found for under $40.  I hope it hooks up well.  It has a good design pedigree, so it ought to be good.

Did anyone else notice, now that Panaracer owns Pacenti, they will be offering a model of the thin-tread Pari-moto with "puncture resistant bead to bead breaker".  PT version is 340g, vice 300g for legacy Pari-moto.

This has me excited, a more puncture resistant Pari-moto!  http://www.panaracer.com/mtb.php  When will they come to market?

...I noticed that and I agree with you.  It's exciting.  Also the Comet!  That looks pretty snazzy for another 2.0" 650B knobby.  I'm still waiting for my 650x42B cyclocross tire, though.

My vote is for a 38 or 35mm 650b cyclocross tire.  Simply because neither my Riv Road conversion nor my gf's Soma San Marcos will fit anything bigger.

Tim Gavin, pondering studded tires for 650b...
