Andrey,
I would like to be able to turn OFF the logic that causes subtasks to inherit the parent task's attributes (context, start date, etc.).  In the way I use MLO, the context for my subtask is rarely the same as the parent task -- and likewise with for the start and due dates.  I would prefer that these attributes be blank for new tasks and subtasks so that I manually populate them as appropriate.

Separately, would like an option on newly created tasks/subtasks for the Start Date to be set to the creation date.  Thus, start date becomes, by default, the day that the task was added to my list.

Thanks for considering,
Kent

It seems there should be a checkmark in the options under behavior, just like there is one for "what happens when you drag/drop a task."

I agree this need tweaking, right now things are inconsistent in that contexts are always copied if you add/indent, but only sometimes copied if you drop/paste.

I would suggest it should be controllable at the context level with something like  "children inherit this context from their parent". This would reflect the fact we use contexts for different things. So you could add the inherited @Home and have its children marked @Home, but if you add the not-inherited ^Important then it only applies to that task.

I'll add this is a popular request:

I'd like to go a little further. I'd like the same functionality I used to enjoy with Bonsai, where I could set options for new tasks to inherit or have a preset value for context, start date and due date.  I used to have context blank, start date set to "today" and due date inherited from the parent task.

With these settings my task entry would be much quicker.

I'd also like the option for a new task to inherit a note from the parent.

I agree -- I would love that people could at least have the option to not have tasks inherit the context of a parent!!

I think it makes sense to at least disallow this option -- many generic projects I can think of (e.g. "Plan my party" require sub-tasks in a lot of different contexts (phone, store, home, errands) etc.

It seems a bit counter-logical to only allow contexts to not be inherited when dragged from another parent.

But, I'd like to add, the program is great!!!! Thanks for all of your hard work!!!

Has there been any update on this feature request? Is there a way to turn off/on (toggle) date/contexts inheriting from parent?

Thanks

George:

Thank you for your support for this request. Nearly every day, because I have extraneous items show up in my non-hierarchical review (which is where the POWER of MLO is) that I have to un-date manually!

Let's hope that up the priority get it in the next update!

Please implement this. Every subtasks I create gets its context cleared immediately after the title is completed.

I second this.
I realy want to add subtasks with no context and no date.

Please add this feature. The software it is simply amazing but this problem it's frustrating and I'm still trying to find a workaround.

Would like to see this as well.

I've posted a link to this discussion, on the beta testers' forum, to draw Andrey's attention to it.  There's clearly quite a lot of interest in being able to customise the behaviours of new items and their inheritance of task parameters.

Keep posting here, if you want to add your vote for this.

I would like to have this feature as well. I don't like setting a due date on every little subtask, and having to go a click off the default-set parent date on each sub task is time wasting. Thanks!

I too agree, concur, second, ninth, tenth, strongly agree, and would really, really, really like this.

I agree, and think it should be a setting for each task whether subtasks inherit context. Because of this, I sometimes use hashtags in the caption, and filter on a flat list to find those items.

Has there been any progress on this feature request...

This is one enhancement that will really make me upgrade to version 5 . Doesn't mean that the other additions and enhancements are not worth the upgrade but the "inherit parent date" thing is a massive pain. Every time
I make a task, I have to go and uncheck the box. Not fun.

Thanks

Hello. Wanted to check if the context inherit feature can be controlled when you enter a new task under a Folder/Project/Another Task

Hello Tandeep. You've started another thread on this subject, too. As per my other reply, I'm sorry to say that no extra controls over inheritance of parameters have been developed recently. This is still a feature request.

Thanks for bringing it back up to the top of the list of subjects in the discussion forum, though. The more popular the subject is, the more likely that development time will be spent on it.
