Hello,

Where does AtoM keep electronic files (photographs, videos ...)?
File system? MySQL?...

Thanks.

Hi Fernando,

Electronic files are stored on the file system, in directories just below the root installation directory (which, if you have followed our recommended installation instructions, is generally /usr/share/nginx/atom).

Specifically, AtoM stores uploaded digital objects (such as photos, videos, PDF files, etc. - as well as repository banners and logos) into a directory called uploads. Generated and uploaded finding aids, as well as cached XML files and any downloads served by the job scheduler (such as clipboard exports), are stored in a directory called downloads

I've previously provided more information on how the uploads directory is organized in this thread:
The following thread provides a bit more information on how a CSV export can help you locate the specific path to an uploaded digital object:
As for the downloads, here's an image of how things are organized:

If you have not turned on the Cache XML setting, then your downloads directory may not have the exports subdirectories. Similarly, if you haven't exported anything from the clipboard, then the jobs subdirectory may not have been created yet. Generated and uploaded finding aids appear directly in the downloads directory.

Let me know if you have further questions!

Hi,

What happens if the file system is almost full?
Can you "add" other filesystems?

Thanks

Hi Fernando,

Unfortunately, we don't know of any method of pointing the uploads directory to multiple storage locations. Your best strategy is probably to back up the uploads directory, upgrade the size of the datastore (perhaps using a network attached storage device?) and then migrate the uploads directory back to the new storage location.

For any future log searchers, this was also continued in the thread "digital object storage".
