Hi guys i'm trying to mill my first PCB i have milling bits of various types and i don't want to mill a bowl.

I need help understanding setting up the tools parameters etc i have managed to do board probe but when i tried milling my first PCB it tried to drill through the board.

The wiki for Bcnc is useless and the milling of a bowl dose not explain how to set different tools and stock settings.

I have built the cyclone and got it to prob a PCB with the tool i want to use in it i have tried to read and watch many videos trying to understand what seems to be to be a requirement before milling.IE setting the parameters of the milling bit and the PCB stock but with no explanation from the software i'm running blind and don't want to drill into my new machine.

I have never done any cnc or milling of any kind before so please don't say things in techy talk please try and explain small bits at a time .

any help would be useful i'm not on here every day so please bear with me if i don't get back straight away.

regards peter

Yes but it still does not tell you anything about how to setup different bits and what all the headings mean.

For milling PCBs (for me) it comes down to the software that I use. I use diptrace to make my schematics and then PCBs, then I export the finished product to a GBR (Gerber file) and an N/C Drill file (if I have through hole parts). At this point I import the GBR and Drill file into CopperCAM. In CopperCAM I set up all my tooling (mills/drills) and how deep I want them to cut, which depends on the thickness of the copper clad PCB. This then lets me export to the actual G-Code to run on bCNC. I have my toolchain and environment in bCNC already set. I can only help you with this specific software. But all the info that I got was from watching youtube videos, I imagine that you could do the same. But if you have a question about these, please feel free to ask.
