BBB and Greenlight GDPR Ready ?

Morning All,

I have several people using BBB with greenlight and I have been asked if the system is GDPR compliant?

What is everyone else doing in regards to GDPR or is there a new update or process that can be implemented without causing a lot of issues to customisation etc?

Hi Paul,

For support of GDPR, we'll be releasing two utilities for BigBlueButton that will let you respond to a requests for personal information or the right to be forgotten for , see

GreenLight is a front-end for BigBlueButton.   Are you enabling users to login via OAuth2, LDAP, or another identity provider.  In such cases, there will be user identifiable information that will be stored in the GreenLight database when someone logs in.  As we finish up the utilities for BigBlueButton (see above link), we're going to provide you the similar tools for GreenLight (or since everything is just stored in a database table, we may just provide steps to extract and delete personal information from the database tables.  See

GDPR comes into effect tomorrow, May 25 2018.  We'll see if we can get you something right away so you can respond to requests for personal information and right to be forgotten soon.

Hi Paul, 

We have a repository where we are working on the tools for enabling you to create a report on what user identifiable personal information is held in the recordings on a BigBlueButton server, and to reprocess recodings on a server and remove a user's information from the recordings.

This is work in progress, but you can see where we are headed.  We'll post a follow-up message when the tools are ready for others to test.

Hello Fred,

I am trying the below command 

./bbb-user-data -u 0 -r /var/bigbluebutton/recording/raw/f219ec17193712e6c94d4d406505eb75780fccad-1527138023626

where 0 is the uid for my username (root) and  f219ec17193712e6c94d4d406505eb75780fccad-1527138023626 is the name of actual recording in the raw folder.

it says: -bash: ./bbb-user-data: No such file or directory

Can you please help?

I figured that my user id is my bbb recording session id, hence I changed the command to 

./bbb-user-data -u na-fe25099f -r /var/bigbluebutton/recording/raw/f219ec17193712e6c94d4d406505eb75780fccad-1527138023626

but it is still giving me the same message i.e 

-bash: ./bbb-user-data: No such file or directory

I believe it's bbb-user-data.rb, and it must have permission to be executed.

We just updated our GDPR repo: https://github.com/bigbluebutton/gdpr 

Please download the latest version on your bigbluebutton server

The script works under this format:

./bbb-user -u <user_id> [-r <recordings_dir_path>] -g|-D

In your case,

If you want to get the information concerning user with id na-fe25099f

you can run the command like so (Assuming ur recordings are in /var/bigbluebutton/recording/raw0

./bbb-user -u na-fe25099f  -g

Likewise, if you want to delete a user

./bbb-user -u na-fe25099f  -D

Please read the terminal output, it isn't finding your bbb-user command, probably because you're trying to run it from the home directory instead of the directory you cloned the gdpr tools.

At this moment, the error has nothing to do with your user ID.
