Hi all.  I’m looking to see if anyone has any information on my great grandmother’s ancestry.  

Here is her information:  Júlia da Encarnaçao b. 22 Mar 1862 at Ribeira Quente to Francisco Furtado and Maria Jacinta;  m. Jose da Costa 24 Jan 1889, Matriz  (Note:  I have Jose’s ancestry.  I’m just looking for Julia’s).  Thanks for any help you can offer!

From Insulana, book LVIII, 2001, page 220 (This book has a typed index of Ribeira Quente marriages).

15 Dec 1856

Groom: Francisco Furtado, son of Manoel Furtado Pechejo (?) and his wife Ursula da Estrella

Bride: Maria Jacintha, daughter of Francisco de Arruda (dead) and Jacintha de Jesus.

That Pechejo must be some kind of alcunha (nickname).

I've got those surnames in Ribeira Quente (RQ), but not as direct descendants.  You'll probably tie into one of my lines in 1-2 more generations.

Yes, that's what I have. So it seems there are two couples by the same name of Francisco Furtado with Maria Jacinta, about the same period. I gave Joseph the line I have, but now that you have raised it, he is going to have to verify which couple is his ancestor.

There two couples but they are distinct.
1)Francisco Furtado (my 2nd great grandfather) x Maria Jacinta -- married 15 Dec 1856.

2) Francisco Furtado (my 4th great grandfather and the grandfather of the 1st one) x Maria Jacinta (this is the couple that Shirley is talking about) -- he was born in 1776 and she in 1778. They married each other on Nov 29, 1796. The only child I have listed is Manuel (my 3rd great grandfather). I haven't found their other children.

Joseph,  Please, which island are your Francisco Furtados from?  My 4th great grandfather Francisco Furtado married to Maria Jacintha is from Pedro Miguel, Faial or I should say, their son, Francisco Furtado was born there.  I show a birth date for him of 12 March 1786 (I do not have proof of this date yet.)
