May I get help with the translation of the birth record of my 2x great grandfather from Saõ Jorge, Velas, Rosais.  I would like to know the names of the Godparents and Witness.  The abbreviations are difficult.

 bottom right, page 21 written at top of page

 Antonio, son of José Texiera de Quadros and his wife, Maria de Saõ João.

Birth date 16 Mar 1818;  Baptism 21 Mar 1818;

I'd like to suggest that when we post that we put the surname we are writing about so that if it doesn't happen to be something we are interested in that we don't have to open it, read it and then delete it.  It can just be deleted.

Example  Rose-Vargas  translation please (or)  Rose-Vargas  research please

You get the idea.  I'm a part of another group and it has made it a whole lot easier for all of us since we began doing that.

Yes, I've suggested that. However with so many common Portuguese surnames, I have also suggested including the freguesia.

With people learning to extract the information out of the translations, they need to read almost all.

I think if we all tried to standardize the subject line by including:
Island: e.g. Santa Maria, São Miguel
Freguesia: e.g. Santa Bárbara, Povoação
Body of the email: e.g. Translation: Sousa, Melo, 1850

Thus the subject line could look something like:

Santa Maria, Santa Bárbara, Sousa, Melo, 1850

From a real old timer, I would like to see the first word in the subject line be Translation or Research or Passportes or whatever help you are seeking in one word before Name, Frequesia,  etc.  I know I cannot translate anymore, not sure I ever did, so I just delete these emails.

I have noticed that a lot of messages start off “Help reading, Help with Translation, Can’t read the name and so on. Having the name of the Freguesia and Island would make it easier sorting it out and may even get a better response from someone that is also researching in that Freguesia. Also having the year helps.

The purpose of asking for translation help is to assist the person asking for the translation - not to provide assistance to the translator.  If I were going to help someone translate, it ought not make any difference to me if the record is part of my research.
