Hmm. Ok, clearly nothing is working. That does sound very much like
the device simply isn't recognized at all on that laptop.
It also sounds like not even Windows sees the cable, although
sometimes it's not that the system doesn't find it, but that it is
reserved by another app (ie maybe DM5 has taken ownership of it or
something).

Humor me - try to download from that Suunto Zoop on your laptop (just
check the download - you can then throw your wife's dives away and not
actually add them to your log, so as to not mix things up).
If that works, we know it's not subsurface, we know it's not the Zoop,
and we know it's something about your wife's laptop.
