Kevin,Peter White just submitted a new advertisement page, that will be in the Spring American Randonneur magazine.I talked to Peter about this new Busch & Muller light, it’s brighter, and has a high beam as well. I’m interested……

I have ridden at least 140,000 miles on bikes equipped with dynamo lights that have integrated USB charging.
I've been really excited about the Ladelux light. I set up a google alert to monitor its availability, and I will absolutely try it out (but I have one concern -- see below *).
In 2014, I started with a B&M Lumotec Luxos U. This light was great. It has a shaped beam with beam cutoff, so you can mount it on the fork crown and not worry about blinding people on shared trails. It has a great "standlight." The USB port and switch can be mounted on the handlebars.
But this light had two serious issues:
The wires mounted to tiny spade connectors on the body of the light. They're fragile and prone to corrosion. I had two break off. I assume this is still an issue.
The light wasn't very water resistant, which makes it unacceptable for a place like Seattle. I have heard they solved this problem, but they lost my trust. If you can't depend on a dynamo light, there is not much of an advantage having one.
When the Sinewave Beacon came out, I bought one immediately, and now I have one on every single bike I ride (even my fat bike!). One of these lights has at least 70,000 miles on it, and it still works as well as it did on day one. My only complaint about this light is that it doesn't have beam cutoff, so I mount it on the handlebars so I can turn it off or cover it on mixed use trails.
I haven't done long randonneuring rides with it, but it keeps my phone, garmin computer and garmin inReach mini fully charged (by judiciously swapping cables) on bike tours, and my phone battery will stay at 100% on 200km daylight rides. I use SON28 hubs, because they put out a little more power on slower rides.
* My concern about the Ladelux light is the magnetic connector.
SON has a handy connector system now, but they used to have only spade connectors, and they didn't stand up well to repeated removal, so I tried out some handy magnetic connectors from a company called Dyna-Snap. They worked great - for a little while. Soon, however, the magnets picked up iron filings in dirt and mud, which interfered with the connection, and required frequent cleaning. Eventually, though, the zinc (I think it was zinc) coating on the rare earth magnets corroded, and at that point they were useless and went in the trash. I fervently hope this connector doesn't have the same problem.
Now, in addition to the great SON coaxial adapters, I use Supernova QR gold connectors. They're awesome. I’ve never had one fail. Incidentally, the best tool I've found for crimping them is the Park Tool End Cap Crimping Pliers.

Jan Heine has a detailed review of the Ladelux in the most recent issue of Bicycle Quarterly.

Jake,
Plus you're a tinkerer! I remember the light strip you made for 2007 PBP.
