Dear PTGui experts,
Is leveling or straightening the horizon based on metadata for Xiamo Misphere supported in any version of PTGui? Currently I'm using V11.30 but would consider upgrading if this feature is available.
Best regards, Ulrich

Hi Ulrich,

It works in PTGui 12 for the test images I have, and according to the
version history this feature was added in 11.14.

If it doesn't work, feel free to make an image available. Any fixes will
only land in PTGui 12, not 11 though.

Kind regards,

Hi Joost,
many thanks for the quick reply. Thus it should work in V11.30. Unfortunately I didn't mention that I'm using the standard version, not Pro. Is this the reason why it doesn't work for me?
If I had to upgrade to V12 Pro the price would be too high and I would stick to straigthening manually.
Best regards, Ulrich

Hi Joost,
I performed some preprocessing (HDR by use of Photomatix) and this way the meta data was lost. When I load the initial JPG file from the camera in PTGui directly, straightening is working perfectly. However there is one issue left: When I apply my template containing some control points specific to my camera, straightening is lost completely. If I do not, I get serious stitching errors.
Is there a way to fix this, keep both, automatic straightening and individual control points?
Best regards, Ulrich

Hi Ulrich,

A setting was added for this purpose:

Project Settings -> Template Behavior -> Preserve original orientation
of the panorama. There's a tooltip for more information.

This is available in PTGui Pro since 11.14. The project settings were
not available in the standard version of PTGui 11.

Since version 12 the Project Settings are available in the standard
version as well (including this setting).

Kind regards,

Hi Joost and thanks for this info.
I'm gonna install the trial of V12 standard and test this. And consider upgrading to that version.
Thanks a lot for your excellent support and best regards

Hi Joost,
I assumed that everything is fine now, however there is a new issue: When processing a RAW image in DNG format from the camera it is not straightened. Is the meta data missing in the image file or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance and best regards
Ulrich

Hi Ulrich,

It's been awhile, but I thought the MiSphere could only produce jpeg files?

In any case I'd be happy to look if you could make your image available
for download.

Hi Joost,
yes, the camera I own provides raw images in DNG format. You can
download a sample from here:
https://ulrichbangert.de/div/ptgui/levelling-ulrich-bangert.zip

However, I'm reflecting about buying a new 360° cam as the image quality
of the Misphere is not that good and capturing is time consuming as
bracketing doesn't work in RAW mode. Maybe the Insta360 X3 might be a
good choice.

Best regards, Ulrich

Hi Joost,
I didn't deal with this subject for a while but resurrected it
yesterday.
Still unsure if I should keep the Misphere or buy the Insta360 X3.

I'm afraid, there will be no support for straightening DNG images from
the Misphere?

Is there support for straightening DNG images from the X3? I found a few
sample photos but was not able to test the straightening feature with
PTGui V12 as they were aligned perfectly already.

Best regards, Ulrich

Hi Ulrich,

Auto leveling for Misphere DNG images was added to PTGui 12.24.

PTGui can also level Insta360 X3 images, this should work for DNGs as well.
