How do I (can I?) do this.

I have a task which doesn’t really have a start date or due date. It is not date dependant, it is ‘what’s happening’ dependant.

For example, it might be ‘Cut the Grass’ so I would want to do this when the grass was long enough. When completed I would want the task to recur, but not on a specific date, but just be be in the list (maybe for Review, I haven’t looked at this yet) as grass grows at a different rate throughout the year...

It would also be good to look at a history so I could see how often the grass needed cutting throughout the year.

I usually do these kinds of tasks with a recurrence of "renew X days after each task is completed". Laundry is another thing for this, i schedule this for 3 days after the last day i did laundry. 

As with the grass, there has not always enough laundry accumulated after 3 days, so if not, I just let that task sit around one or two more days. I found this more efficient than manually juggling the dates all the time (I really try to keep task maintenance to a minimum). Just try to come up with a default period that hits 90% of the time. If you'd like you could give tasks like this a certain context that is always closed and have a special view where only tasks with this context occur. That way they are not always in your view, if you prefer to have it that way.
