Our next Beer Tie to be held on Monday, August 13 from 7PM-9PM will be supporting Casting for Recovery (CFR). CFR is an organization that provides an opportunity for women suffering from breast cancer to experience the serenity of the outdoors through fly fishing.

For the Beer Tie, we will be donating flies for the local retreat. Much like the CFR Beer Tie last year, the theme will be pink flies for trout fishing. Just add some pink chenille, marabou, hackle or whatever to regular beer tie kit to tie these flies. Two prime examples are shown below:

If some of those that are voracious at the vise want do some something really special, they can tie 14 of the same fly that we can gift to the ladies to put on their hats. In Texas last year a man created some amazing hummingbirds. Let's see how creative our TPFRers can be.

With this being said, any flies will be most graciously accepted, pink or not. Hope to see you there, and feel free to post your pink flies in this thread ahead of time.

Thanks,
Dalton

Dalton --

For those of us who aren't steelheaders, will pink materials be available at the Beer Tie?

Cheers,

Great question, Greg! We are planning to have pink flies at the beginners tables and maybe we can bring more materials otherwise. If not, Rob Snowhite will have a couple rolls of Pink Panther insulation for everyone to use as dubbing.

Just wanted to let you guys know that through the summer, we’ve reinstituted our Beer Friday policy.  Every Friday through labor day from 5pm-7pm, we’ll have a cooler full of beer on ice.  Tonight’s beers are Fat Tire and Guinness.  If you’re in the area and feel like swinging by to say hi, or BS, or just want an excuse to drink our free beer, come thru.  Would be nice to see your faces again.

As you can imagine, I have enough materials in pink to supply several beer ties!  Bucktail, scudback, a couple of types of chenille, dubbing, marabou, hackle, beads, thread--and if I take Rich up on his offer of a beer, maybe much more!  I will bring as much as I can.

Bring the hooks you like to tie on for patterns you would actually use on a trout stream in this area.  Scuds, nymphs, buggers and so on are perfect.  Huge feather-wing saltwater not so much.

For grins, I have attached a photo of the hummingbird that was referenced in the email.

Can't wait to see you all then and see your fabulous creations!!!

Street parking in the area is FREE after 6PM if you can find it, but it is limited.  There are two parking garages on Filmore St. 1/2 block from the pub which will only run you around $6-$8 for the night.  Of course, the Clarendon stop on the Metro Orange line will  put you within a block as well.  Looking forward to seeing everyone there.  Rob Snowhite will be teaching Pink&White Mini-Clousers at the beginner's table, and Miles is promising to bring another "iron vise" material if he makes it back in time from fishing today.
