Folks-

I know that some of you have ben waiting *way* to long for your mendelmax full or hardware kits and we are very sorry about that. It has been a runaway success that Maxbots designed and the amount of orders had him completely underwater when he joined my company, TrinityLabs. I have done a global startup before, I was one of 3 original founders of http://engineyard.com back in 2006 and me and my 2 buddies grew the company from the 3 of us to > 200 employees in 16+ countries and still growing! So I know a little bit about global business and logistics and how to optimize these things as well as how to provide real customer service.

All of you whether you bought from Mike before he Joined Trinity or after he joined are TrinityLabs early customers. And as our early customers you are our most valued asset. I know it has been probabky very frustrating for you folks to hear over and over again that we will be shipping soon.

Well I am happy to say that we will begin shipping all 78 backordered MM-1.5 HW and Full kits this morning. Now just to set clear expectations we will be shipping the oldest orders first and it may take us a week or two tops to assemble and ship all of these kits without making mistakes of the past.

We've spent the last 3 months optimizing our supply chain, our shipping/receiving, our engineering and R & D functions to become a much more well oiled machine.

This is the biggy, once we clear this backlog, we will be able to ship HW and full kits within days of you ordering them not weeks! We will finally be far enough ahead and will try our best to stay there so that when you place an order for something as cool as a 3d printer, you can have the instant gratification of getting it within a few days. This cannot be underestimated and is one of the big differences between what we are trying to accomplish here at Trinitylabs.

So here is a Video to show you a last minute assembly that Dave and I are installing one of the Y axis retrofit kits onto my custom all black menxelmax. Have a look and see for yourself how much nicer this is going to be and I am sure you will agree it is worth the wait once you get it in your hands.

I want to thank all of you for your patients and constant feedback and positive attitudes during this hard transition period for us. If any of you still feel unfairly treated plesase call my personal cell phone at 1-530-917-7815 and I will more then make it up to you I promise.

This new printer is going to be called the TrinityLabs MM-1.5+ as it is a deviation from the standard MM-1.5 but is not quite a 2.0 version yet. This was a huge team effort with all of our crew kicking in to make sure we hit the promised dates and deliver the highest quality system we can.

We are a little behind in printed parts and are rapidly catching up. if any of you out there have multipel printers and want to consider printing mendelmax plastic part sets for us please contact e off list to discuss further.

And lastly, you guys all rock, I love the mendelmax community and we all owe Mike Payson(maxbost) a round if aplause here for his excellent 3d printer open source design. I've taken the liberty to make alterations to his design and he has been gracious about accepting these changes once I convince him of their advantages so thanks Mike, I know this is your baby that you let me change so props for that.

Cheers-

P.S.  The Trinity Micro Extruder V2.0 will also be released today and will be coming in the full kits as the main MM extruder. It now has a hindged idler and is much more robust as well as much larger accessibility window.

I highly recommend anyione running thr 1.0 version to switch to this 2.0 version. You can re-use all your vitamins and may need just a few more.

I will be updating you folks with photos and videos throughout the day as we ship these out. Thanks for giving us the time to make this up to all of you. I sincerely hope you like what we;ve made!

Hard to say exactly. But we hope to ship as many of the 78 or so back orders this week! Maybe a few slip into early next week

So I'd say we're trying to to ship 10-15 kits a day till. A morsels are done.

Then we will put the y axis retrofit kit and new kits in the store for general a Avilailabilty.

So hang in there, people will start getting there kits very soon in the order we received the orders. Then well open it up for folks who want to purchase and retrofit y axis or upgrade.

I'll keep the list posted everyday with our progress until the backlog is over.

Cheers

Joel-

We should get the schematics and CAD files plus and new parts that need to be printed up on thingiverse this week sometime, along with the files for the 2.0 version of our micro Extruder.

I'll post to the list when we release those files.

Thanks
Ezra

P.S.

We hope to ship the entire backlog by end of this week or early next week. We're having a small bottleneck on printed parts but were churning them out as fast as ER can and shipping them instantly.

If there are any majors holdups for any of the Odets we will give you a call and go over your options with you. Give you a choice of waiting for everything you ordered to be in one box. Wore we ship or if the bulk of your parts are in our hands but were short a few nuts and bolts we can ship your order and then follow on a week later or less with any missing parts.

Don't get me wrong we should have all the parts here to fulfill all back orders withing the next week. But we are also doing finally quality checks on each part before we ship your kid this time so who knows if we turn up with any bad parts. We want to find them not you. ;)

Yes now that you found my secret surprise we have actually replaxced the Y axis stepper motor with smll children included now in your kits. THey require very little food and water and when you do the math they only consume about the same cost as the electricity for the Y stepper motor. But now you can nurture your Y axis and talk with it, teach it the facts of life so it knows how to interact and breed with other Mendelmax's at Makerfaires etc.

(probably very bad taste on my part here but i cannot resist poking fun at myself when I am in such a delirious state after ll the work building up to this week ;)

I completely forgot the 4t of july meant no shipping today and no mail delivery today so sorry about that. We will congtinue with your regylarly scheduled shipping tomorrow.

Ezra

P.S. No kids were harmed in the making of this Y axis(scouts honor!)

Order #1052

This order is marked as Awaiting Fulfillment

As of this very moment.

Ezra Zygmuntowicz

unread,
Jul 6, 2012, 12:15:19 PM7/6/12
to mend...@googlegroups.com

A bunch of packages went out last night at the 10pm airport shipping cut off time. And a bunch more going out today. We fully expect to have all 78 backordered kits shipped before end of next week.

We are going oldest orders and overseas orders first but were not skipping older orders for overseas orders just trying to prioritize how things go out

I completely forgot this week hade the 4th of July right in the middle of it so no shipping on that day. And the paypal system that sends out notifications after shipment can lag behind actual ship date by one or two days

So please bear with us folks, packages are moving out the door and all of you who have been waiting will have a kit in the mail before next week ends and quite a few of you have kits on the way and more going out today.

We're focused more on doing a proper job shipping and not making any packing mistakes then updating the database in the storefront and shipping system so the notifications may be behind the actual shipping a bit.

Rest assured we've got all the parts here and were trying to get as many out the door per day that we can.

After next week once the backorders are all shipped, we will finally reach the EPIC(for us anyway) milestone of having no backorders and being able to ship within a few days of you placing an order online. And I plan to give it my full effort to stay ahead of the curve and never let us fall into as deep of a hol as we are currently climbing out from folks.

I know its been a wait and I know you are sick of hearing, "its on its way, real soon now™"  but it is in fact happening and everyone will have kits in hand shortly.

Also I want to put it out there that I am available by irc, email or phone ny time you want to call me up and chew me out for how long you've ben waiting. Ever people who placed orders before Mike joined my company, please feel free to take your frustrations out on me at 1-530-917-7815. The team here is working around the clock and I am very proud of them. I don't mind being the "shit-sheild" so they can continue shipping and I will listen to anyone who wants to complain to talk to me about what, why and how of what we're going over here.

If anyone is just so fed up they want their money back I am happy to do that for you as well with an additional 5% more then you paid as interest for having your money for too long. There's no excuse for the long wait times here folks except for the success of the mendelmax and underestimating the supply/demand cycle.

But we've got our shop in great shape now and I;m confident that you are all going to be happy verty soon. We also have new documentation for building the mendelmax coming very soon, most likely next week before or right as most of you get your new kits.

Also I will make a more formal post about this in another threåd, but from here on out, *all* full kits or assembled printers will come with a free copy of Moi3d.com CAD modeling tool that retails for $295 included with your kit *for free*. We also have a nice written tutorial on getting started with Moi to give you as well.

I am working on a small web app to manage the dishing out of Moi licenses to kit buyers and hope to get that online next week for you folks.

Meanwhile if anyone has bought a full mendelmax kit from us at anytime up til now or from here going forward, you will get a free copy of Moi. I am sorry but we cannot make this offer for the hardware only kits, just the full kits. So if you have bought a full kit but don;t have Moi yet, please email me at e...@trinitylabs.com and I will get you a copy right away!

Thanks for listening and hanging in there folks. Enjoy a short video of our blossoming baby print farm/green room to pass the time >>

Please post some photos when you guys open your kits ;) We've worked very hard on packaging and labeling and fitting the kits in the boxes space so I think you guys will all be very happy when it shows up. I'd love to have photos and a first reaction post when you get your orders.

Thanks for being patient folks. Kits are flying out the door now 20+ a day or more and will all be shipping within the next 2 days(hopefully by tomorrow though).

Some of you may get your kit minus the extruder, just forewarning you. But there will be a note in there explaining and we will be sending a follow up package(we pay shipping) next week when the new CNC'd aluminum heat sinks and groove hot end plate mounts that are the same shape as the t-micro extruder come in.

I made the decision that you all would much rather have your kits in hand and start building and get a follow up package next week with the extruder(including nice bonus upgrades:) then wait any longer for your kits to ship.

Hope this doesn't anger anyone, if it does as ussualy please call me and chew me out, leave my employees alone so they can get all the kits out the door ;) I am once again the main "shit shield" for them. I am here to deflect turds so they can continue working. So take aim and call me at 1-530-917-7815 if you have questions, comments, need help, or just need a friend. Or if you are considering suicide because you don't have your mendelmax *please* call me and let me talk you down for f***s sake!

Yeah as soon as we finish shipping all backorders in the next day or two we will put up a retrofit Y axis kit in the store.

Previsou mendemal kit buyers who have purchased either a hardware or full kit from us in the past will be able to get the retrofit Y axis kit for $100. The retail price for anyone who didn't buy their kit from us is going to be $180.

The kit will include >>

1. 418mm long PTFE 60mm wide Low Profile Uniguide Slide rails from PBC Linear as well as a 100mm long car that slides on the rail.
2. a 420mm long 20mm x 20mm misumi tslot extrusion plus the tnuts and bolts to bolt the y axis rail to this extrusion.
3. 4x  misumi steel tslot 90degree corner joints to mount the extrusion that holds the slide rail tyo the mendelmax frame with steel rigidity
4. A 3.2mm thick sheet of G10/FR4 black plate with CNC drilled holes to mount on the sliders' carriage.
5. 4 printed corner parts plus the vitamins(nuts bolts and springs) to support the 4 corners of the borosilicate ghlass print bed and allow 4 corner bed leveling adjustment
6. A 290mm x 230mm borosilicate print bed.
7. A 24V kapton heater that sticks to the botom of the glass print bed.
8. A printed belt mount bridge that is used to attach the carriage of the PTFE slide rail to the blet of the Y axis.
9. Thermistor and heavy duty silicon wiring for the kapton heater
10. Enough post install tlot nuts to attach the PTFE slide rail to your mendelmax frame *without* the need to disassemble your printer frame, Hurray!
11. I am sure there are a few more misc parts I am forgetting but it is basically *everything* you need to replace your old tired Y axis with the new hawtness Y axis ;)
12. It looks like this  >>

This sounds great. However there is a problem. You are supplying a 24 volt heater, but I (and I think a lot of other people) was shipped a 12 volt power supply. What do we do?

There are a few options. We have 12v heaters on the way, should be arriving within a week. Or you could get a cheap laptop brick style 24v power supply just for the kapton heater(I've found them for $5 online) you need 10-12amps or so, and you could use your ssr from your silicone heater to turn it on and off. Or you could just opt out of the kapton heater if you already have one of the silicone mains voltage heaters and SSR, you can stick your old silicone heater to the glass. Or you can ask us for a silicone heater and ssr instead of kapton. Or you could buy a 24v PSU from us plus we also have nice 24v - 12v step downs that you use to power anything that still needs 12v(like hot end).

So there are many options for doing this. We will have more detailed explanations soon.tjanks

We're getting ready to add this stuff to the store right after we finish shipfest™ 2012. We have new 24v psu's and these voltage drop downs. Wll be in the store this weekend I think.

Any full kits that were shipped come with a 24v psu and one of these drop downs already in the box.

I already have the borosilicate print bed and a bed heater.  Could you guys offer a Y axis kit without these items?  I imagine that there are many of us in this same boat.

Can't wait to get started on building mine. I'll definitely post pictures once I get my kit in. Ezra, once again, good job leading from the front.

Also, how were the kits shipped?

The belt attachment bracket is a U shaped printed part. I will try to get a picture of the part when I get to the office this in an hour (though it will probably be several hours before I get a chance to post it). It should have been in the bag labeled "Y Axis Rail Kit". It is possible it was omitted, so just let us know if we need to resend it.

I am noobie on this Y table, so is there a detailed assembly drawing posted somewhere, to show where the bits and springs go?

Right angle clamp hardware seems pretty straightforward to mount the table to the upper layer of base extrusions.  Think I will go slide the Y axis back and forth, and lust over how smooth it runs!

Great that you included the sheet of cler PET (?) and a spare.    The kapton film heater looks awesome!   Would be a shame to have to put dark window film on the glass and hide the blocky wide lines of heater grid.

Here is the packing slip:

Docs are progressing. We had to put them aside a bit this week to do this shipping push, but we will get back on them as soon as the shipping is caught up.

Thanks,
Mike

This is awesome.  Thanks Mike!

A packing slip like this allows me to plan out exactly what else I need to acquire while I wait for the kit to ship.

Well, I just got my box. Sweet! Everything was packaged well and the box wasn't too beat up. I'll post pictures of the contents as I unbox once I get home.
I'm sure this will keep me busy enough until the rest arrives. Ezra, please be sure to thank everyone on your team on a job well done!

Mike,  I suspect it looks a lot like the belt clamp on the x carriage, so a couple of drill holes in one of those from the Fablocker misprint box should do.    Once you have a 3D sketch of the assembled table, or a photo shot of one, posted, I can work from that.  Sorted everything in that bag, and only 4 corner plastic pieces.

Found the Z axis plastic nuts, in an unlabeled bag.   Did not realize how large they would be, compared to the old metal Acme nuts!

Neat that you are labeling each extrusion.    Got a drawing that shows where each one goes?    Maybe I will just put my MM1.6 together and post a picture with the labels on it !!

Yes we are still on track for getting everything shipped this week. I don't exact number but I do know we are up to the mid 1200's as of tonight, maybe higher. So you guys with 1288 numbers should be going out tomorrow unless you have one of those orders that had many changes made over time or were very complicated.

Don't worry guys you will begetting your setups soon.

Cheers-

Ok. Got my kit, yaa!

Now I have been searching the web in the meantime for instruction as to how to assemble. Along with the github doc that was posted, I found a youtube video of someone assembling the rail onto a 5th 420mm extrusion piece. Now I purchased my extrusions separately, and I do not remember in any of the online posts nor phone conversations with Mike that there was a need for another extrusion.

If that was the case, I would have purchased one from you guys so that I would have it when the kit arrived. I was told that everything that I needed for the upgrade conversion to the linear rail would be in the kit.

Just putting this up here in case anyone else went my route and purchased separate extrusions. Now, off I go to Misumi's website.

Have you ordered already Theo? Yours is sort of a weird exception since you ordered without extrusions, but I will send you the extra extrusion for just the price of shipping under the circumstances. Just email me offlist at m...@mendelmax.com and I will get you set up.

We ran out of the bushings on the Z axis so right now we are waiting for those.  They should be here this morning.  Once they are here we should be in good shape to fill all remaining orders within another day or two at most.

So what's going on with my order #1288?  First we were told that every order would be shipped by Wed the 11th (here).  That didn't happen, but hey, delays happen and my order was probably one of the later ones in the queue.  A few days pass, so Friday I ask in the IRC channel and Ez tells me that my order is ready and will ship Monday. Cool, looking forward to it.  Monday comes... and goes, no order status change. I check the boards and see Mike say they ran out of z brushings, but all orders should be done within 1-2 days (here).  Odd, because Ez told me the order was ready and will ship Monday... so I ask in IRC and Ez tells me he doesn't know the exact status of my order, but send him an email and he'll check on it personally. So Monday night, I do as he suggested and sent him an email.  It is now Thursday and no reply, no status update, and no shipment.

What gives guys? I'm getting a little nervous here...

Caanon-

Sorry I hadn't gotten back to you sooner, I haven't personally bveen into the office in almost a week because I have been heads down in my secret lab working on some new TrinityLabs sekret prototype machines and products that are coming soon.

But I just checked and verified with shipping that you order is going out today with todays batch of shipments and since you are in Seattle you will have it before the weekend for certain.

I did think you were going to be shipped on monday but was just informed that we had run out of 10mm bushings which temporarily held up hardware kits f or 2 days but we got them yesterday and I double checked and got the word of my most trusted shipping employee that your order ships today and with the short distance you should have it friday or saturday at the latest.

Sorry I didn't communicate back to you sooner as promised. Honestly it has been a few of the hardest weeks of my career and so many things in the air it feels like OI have literallty been juggling 10,000 flaming chainsaws for a while now. Of course a few of those fire bearing chainsaws have been dropped and caused house fires like your issue and so I appologize for burning down your house Caanon. To make up for it since I don't think you have flaming chainsaw insurance, I just issued you a $20 store credit to use as you like to make up for me dripping the ball(or chainsaw etc).

I appreciate everyones patience and I know we've got a few last straggling orders here that were held up by us running out of a few small parts we should have been on top of and thats our fault. We are getting better though and we have shipped damn close to 100 kits in 16 days now. ANd I can garantee your order is actually going out today, My trusted shipping employee Dave is personally making sure your kit gets out with the rest today and I just had him count the parts needed to ensure there;s nothing that can hold it up.

I just have information overload personally and I apologize for not keping you informed like I promised. I have a great memory but it can be selective sometimes and I am a well know procrastinator. But at least I do know my faults and try to surround msyelf with folks who fill the gaps in my own skill set so we all balance out as a team.

I know it doesn't make up for lack of follow through but you need not worry, you an start youre build this weekend.

Thank for understanding and please don't worry, we;re actually not holding anything back hee on purpose and are shipping as fast as we humanly can. This is also why newkit orders are shut off temporarily. We won't take any new orders until all backorders are shipped and we do a full inventory sweep and order up a surplus of what weneed to not get behind again.

Cheers

So do you have a guessitmate on the shipping date for the straggling orders?  Also out of curiosity (ok a bit of a wager) what is the highest number order going out in this massive batch?

I was hoping to check my email this morning and see a shipping confirmation notice from Trinity Labs...   Nope, not today either.
In Caanon's message, he said his order was number 1288.  which is right after mine.  I'm 1282. He was promised without fail that his order would go out last night.  So I would assume my order would have gone out with his.   I don't have a crazy order, or have changed it at all.   Its just a hardware kit.

So now I'm starting to get wonder whats going on too...

I understand you guys have been working your butts off to get orders out.  And actually I'm ok with waiting a little longer.  What I have a problem with is you guys make a promise to ship and then it doesn't. especially when you said they will ship in the order they were placed.

So  whats up?

We are shipping in order number as they came in. But we are not halting shipping higher orders if a lower number cannot be shipped due to missing parts. Unfortunately we ran out of a few small vitamins that made it so we couldnt ship some orders until we got more of those items and we have rushes on anything were short so we can get the remaining orders out the door.

Also we had two of our shipping guys out sick do we did not get out as many packages yesterday as I would have liked.

I know it's frustrating out there folks but this is also why we shut off new kit orders because we want to get out from under any and all backorders.

It is a lot of work getting these kits right and were very close to done here. We've surpassed the 100 orders shipped mark now in these past few weeks and I hope to finish it all ASAP.

Trust me I like not shipping even less then you like not having your order shipped.

And again if Anyone who hasn't gotten a shippin notification yet wants their money back please just call me direct. 1-530-917-7815

Just know we're doing the best job ER physically can to get to each and every one of you and I'll accept responsibility for underestimating how much work this was going to be to get it all done. But rest assured it will all ship and soon. Just have a little more faith in us is all I ask. This is a hard job and the last thing I want is unhappy customers so were doing eelverythingnin our power to finish this monumental task before we take any more orders.

Thanks
Ezra
