Reprapper.org . I might have it misspelled. I've ordered from there.
There's another vendor too I ordered from. I'll get the info later.
It's all from China. Shipping is high. So get several rolls to make it
worthwhile. The ordering system is not automatic. U will be emailing
them for clarification. Great customer service. More later.

Subject: [MakerBot] Alternative sources for filiment?
It seems that Makerbot Industries are either consistently out of stock
of 1.75mm black and now natural filament, or that they are embargoing
their stock to ship with new bots. Does anyone have a good, reliable
and reasonably priced alternate source for filament? Any that should
definitely be avoided for cause? Thanks in a advance and happy
botting!

I've been wondering the same, finding alternate sources for filament.
I just discovered this page while googling around for suppliers:
http://reprap.org/wiki/Printing_Material_Suppliers

That is one HUGE list!

Correction. Go to

http://www.repraper.com/index.php

I met up with Simon Zou as a result. His email is jamesj...@hotmail.com
If you go to the site above and submit an order, Simon will email you
to PayPal him money. I was hesitant at first but found out later you
have 30 days to file a complaint with PayPal and get your money back
if you don't get your product. Also, the shipping is very high if you
order one roll. So order a bundle to save money. Here is the list of
shipping prices he gave me per amount of filament:

First 0.5kg 23.29
Additional 0.5kg 4.55
5~10kg 12
11~15kg 8.65
2kg 36.94
3kg 46.04
4kg 55.14
5kg 60
6kg 72
7kg 84
8kg 96
9kg 108
10kg 120
11kg 95.15

Verify that with him. There will be other cost like a PayPal charge
for him to convert one currency to another. Ask a lot of questions.
There is nothing automatic about this type ordering. It's all
customer service on their end. If you order enough rolls then you
will beat the U.S prices from Makerbot or Ultimachine. What I use to
pay $45-50 here in the U.S now cost $80+ per roll today in the U.S.
Ridiculous!

My very first vendor before that was a nice lady name Cherry Dai from:

Company Name:CB PHOTOELECTRICITY LIMITED
ADD:Room1,1st Floor, Yangtaishan Industry Road No.10, ShiYan Town ,
Shenzhen City , China
Postcode:518108
Contact person: Ms Cherry Dai
TEL/FAX:+86-755-27639229
Mobile :+86 13537833162
Email: cherrybl...@yahoo.com/lovely...@126.com
MSN:cherry_bl...@hotmail.com
skype ID: cherrydai520
Web: www.cbtradeline.com

The prices I believe are close. The same issues as far as ordering,
currency conversion, PayPal payment also apply. Again, ask a lot of
questions. I got a very polite and prompt response from all of them.

I have had a good experience with repraper as well, no need to
contact, was able to do everything via the website. Good plastic, a
little thinner than Makerbot, but consistent. If you are using an
unmodified MK7/8 with plunger you might have some trouble.

Also, ordered on a Friday, had it on Wednesday. From China! Takes
longer than that from Brooklyn..

I've got a couple of rolls from Octave, www.octave.com , but I haven't tried them yet.  Also available via Amazon (same price).  Lots of colors and all seem to be in stock.  Generally $35/kg, but there are a couple of bundles that save a little more.

I got some 1.75mm black (giant spool) and red (unspooled) from http://ultimachine.com/ Great, quick, service and really good filament. There was even a generous PLA sample in the package they sent.

My only beef with buying it from Makerbot is the shipping costs.
Something like $15 for a single spool to Nebraska. It gets better (in
$/spool) as you order more, but buying one or two spools at a time
will cost you a pretty penny for shipping.

Speaking of Makerbot filament, here is a $5 of plastic coupon #
H3R32S3RV3 that I'm not going to use for anyone who wants it.

ooooo .. they have conductive ABS! Has anyone tried it? That might
enable me to build RF-tight boxes for my amateur radio stuff ;)

Another cupon I'm not going to use, it expires in June 1st, so be fast, it's also only for 5$ and only for ABS or PLA

10 Kohm/cm doesn't sound terribly conductive, but that can't be right because it says the same for 1.75mm and 3mm. Sounds like you could make printable resistors out of it, though.

I missed a post somewhere; who has conductive filament?

At 10k/cm it's not practical as a conductor per se, but it would be excellent for objects that are to be used in an anti-static environment.

No one has mentioned:
https://www.protoparadigm.com/products-page/

Protoparadigm has a good selection of plastics, abs, pla, pva, polycarbonate. Great service and quick shipping. I recently bought supplies there and everything came in heat sealed bags with extra ziplock bags and desiccant packs to help maintain moisture content while stored once you receive it.

They offer a 1 kg high tolerance satin 1.75 abs spool for $45.

Also have a useful blog with great printer operator tips and theory.

I really love the white opaque PLA from protoparadigm.  The prints look like porcelain.   I've bought 9 spools of various plastics from various sources, and it's the first spool that I used up.  It's what I used for  http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:23365 .

I'm about to pull the trigger on a order from repraper.com, but you had me curious.
What do you recommend as a 'good' modification to the MK8 to better handle repraper's plastic?
I've read various threads on this group about the makerbot plungers wearing down.  Is this a bigger issue when using thinner filament?

thanks!

I am near Nashville TN.

If anyone else is in the area (Clarksville, Nashville, or surrounding
areas), please contact me directly.

I am considering making a larger buy from repraper.com to get the
effective price down, and was wondering if anyone else wanted some
filament?

Even if you come through the area occasionally, it could still be wirth it!

I'm partial to this one: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:15718

You might think I'm biased, but there were dozens of people telling me it worked great for them for months before I was able to get a Mk7 to try it myself.

Looks awesome!  Did you ever sell the kit on eBay?  From the comments it sounds like I can find a proper spring from a home depot spring grab bag.
Looks like there is also a bearing , do you have any recs for this part? I am a software engineer first and foremost, all this real world stuff is new to me.  I placed my first mc master order this past Monday. :)

Are you still using these, ala "eating the dogfood" ?

I've got a dual extruder, has anyone tried using two of them?

I haven't started selling the kits, though I gave a few away at Maker Faire. The bearing is a 623. I have some more of these kits put together containing a spring, a bearing, and a 10mm countersink-headed M3 screw that fits the tight space between the idler and the motor. If you want one, I'll just have to figure out the shipping so that I know what to charge.

Since MBI got caught-up enough on replicator shipments to put the Mk7 back up on the store, I've been dogfooding it constantly and loving it. I don't have a dual extruder (not yet, at least), but I've seen pictures of others using it in that configuration, and all of the feedback has been positive.
