Dearest WWT team :D
I'm so excited to meet you all super super soon!
I have a question that I need answered ASAP. . .and it could be fun!
We have a lot of free time when we're in Peterborough and I feel that we could possibly find time for another water learning op!
However, I can't think of anything off the top of my head to try to organize.
Is there anything that you would love to learn more about or think is missing from the schedule so far that Peterborough might be able to offer???

So far I have us scheduled for learning opportunities surrounding:
privatization of water- nestle - trucking water 50km to be bottled, mega quarry
Conservation, water quality, dams, LEED certified buildings and conserving water that way
Hatcheries (fish)!
water treatment plant
wetlands conservation
Walkerton tragedy + well 5 E.coli contamination
Slow rain- rain barrels, depaving, permeable pavement
Site 41 in Tiny + Rama first nations
Activists from Sharbot Lake (not entirely sure yet what this will entail)
Farmers re: the drought this year and effects on agriculture/water usage etc.

Ideas!?  We could also do something slightly unrelated or only distantly related to water. . .like an aquarium or something?  I'm very open to suggestions.  What are your interests?  What are we missing?

Let me know! :D

Maybe we could talk to someone at city hall regarding local water policies (I wouldn't mind learning more about the policy side of things--legislation, acts, laws, etc.--when it comes to water). Or, since Peterborough is practically cottage country, and it is where the head offices of the MNR are, maybe we can learn about spread of invasive species through waterways (new threats, etc.). Maybe the MNR can tell us about water policy too? I'm not really sure what else there is in Peterborough. Industry? Can we find a manufacturer of sorts to talk to them about their use of water? Or, if all else fails, maybe we can tour their sewage treatment plant, hehe.

Yay learning! I'm so excited!

I also just read about Chris Metcalfe, a researcher at Trent, who might be interesting to speak to: http://www.trentu.ca/wqc/people_Metcalfe.php.

This sounds like a pretty great idea, and if it would help, I work for the MNR during the summer, and I know a few people who work at the MNR in the Peterborough office and may be able to get some contacts.  Let me know if this is something people are interested in.

MNR sounds like a good fit! We have time after 3pm on October 11th or after 4:30 on October 12th.
Michéle, if you could get me in touch with some of the contacts you have or whoever they suggest, that would be great!

Hi Lindsey, I have just messaged my friend who works in the youth programs division at the MNR in Peterborough to get permission to pass on her info to you.  She was excited about the idea of hooking us up with someone and something to match the water focus of our tour.  I will forward you her e-mail as soon as I get the go ahead from her.
