- Anyone found a good replacement for Yojimbo? [2 Updates]
Phil Giltner <phil.g...@gmail.com> Nov 24 08:01AM -0800
I've been using Instapaper more & more as a hold-everything text location:
emailing stuff to it, or saving via bookmarklet. Having to write something,
I've been using dropbox & notesy (iOS) and WriteRoom (OSX). I still can't
pull the trigger on ditching Yojimbo, no matter what. I'm using Evernote
reluctantly, trying to figure out how to get out of it in the future.

I'm in the process of switching to LastPass for passwords and Evernote for
everything else. I've got a Yojimbo to Evernote script I'm working on that
handles encrypted notes (current shortcoming of the other scripts out
there) to complete my conversion. What don't you like about Evernote? I'm
curious if I've overlooked something important. I don't think Evernote's
interface is as easy to use as Yojimbo's (though the new version 5.0 for
Mac is much improved) I am happy to pay for both LastPass and Evernote
Premium subscriptions (total of about $60/year) in exchange for sync that
"just works" and not being tied to Apple's future whims on
dotMac/MobileMe/iCloud/iWhatever. Both LastPass and Evernote also have the
advantage of being cross-platform and thus work (and sync!) on non-Apple
devices. Both also provide an easy way to get data out and Evernote
provides a robust Applescript interface, a Yojimbo feature I've found very
useful.
I am curious to know what you perceive to be Evernote's shortcomings
vis-a-vis Yojimbo.
Cheers,
Rhet
