the new presidency is taking such a refreshing direction in so many
ways.
among them, not being a stupid, stubborn, foolishly-proud know-it-all
who's wrong about everything has to top it, but there are so many more
loving and sensible approaches to governing which one cannot help but
feel are positive for the country as a whole.
like grandma living in the white house, for instance.
now, clearly, the Obamas can afford a nanny, but instead, they're
bringing grandma with them to Washington.
this not only says a lot about his character and his family, it says a
lot to the nation, and the world.
what we seem to have coming into power is an actual human being.
a smart man.
a truly compassionate person, with a valued family.
someone with common sense and heart as well as a deep intellect and a
humble sense of humor.
much more of a healthy basketball player than a lazy-assed SOB golfer.
let's just hope it's all as real as it seems, because after eight
years of negative insanity, and pointless hatred, and fear, and
intimidation, and excessive greed, and anti-American suppression of
dissent and diversity of thought, it's exactly what America needs.
grandma living in the white house.
yep.
sincerely welcoming even the input of his mother-in-law, FFS.
yikes.
this dude is obviously comfortable in his own skin.
we don't have to worry about his ego erupting into a pathetic denial-
fest like we saw Bush do yesterday at his last press conference (where
he tried ever so unsuccessfully to save face once again).
...
grandma living in the white house.
now that's change we can believe in.

This could be your best post. Ever.
Agreed.
Problem is, Obama's got so many good qualities but I'm not at all
confident they'll turn up in his policies. Fingers crossed.

hopeless cynics who made this special moment possible. um, yeah.

well naturally we're all waiting around for the big sucker punch.
that political expectation has been brutally beaten into us ever since
the early 1960's.
but until the knuckles actually connect we might as well remain
optimistic and hopeful that Obama isn't just an elaborate shill for
the same old fucksters that ruin everything they touch.
i mean, it actually is possible that he is mostly what he appears to
be.
and while that certainly would be utterly surprising, it still remains
within the realm of remote probability.
after all, relatively honest and helpful real people do actually exist
in the real world.
we've all met them, here and there, along the way.
there's at least one or two such people in every family or community.
and Obama seems more than capable of persuading the usual suspects
into reassessing their pointless stupidities. well, at least a healthy
percentage of them, anyway.
and the ones who "profit" way too much from their overly-self-serving
behaviors are not totally beyond reaching if Obama and the rest of us
are patient enough with their/our pathetic little egos.
it may end up being as simple as everyone finally truly realizing that
everyone else is someone's grandchild.
and fully comprehending and understanding just what that means on a
personal level.
and celebrating the mutually benefitial possibilities of that truth
instead of always defaulting to seeing it as some sort of menacing
threat.
everyone has at least one grandmother, even if they've never met her.

I think that's part of the problem, though. While I'm thrilled thrilled
thrilled he won the election, he's no progressive. He appears to be an
almost-conservative moderate in his policies. He's got some progressive
personal views which I relate to thoroughly. But when it comes to most
of the things he says he's going to do (increase forces in
Afghanistan?????), I'm not all that hopeful.
But, you're right, let's see what happens after next Tuesday.

When you balance all the things he might do to improve the situation
against the few things he could do to make it worse, the view seems
optimistic. Murphy does love an optimist. We live in interesting
times.
