Hi QS lovers !

There's a new QS version available at :
http://github.com/tiennou/blacktree-alchemy/downloads

Feel free to test and report issues with this one on my GitHub page !

What was fixed (since 3838ab) :
- Some memory leaks, bug fixes.
- More deprecated stuff left to die ;-).
- Trigger display in the Triggers pref pane.
- Action localization should be a little more consistent (see http://wiki.github.com/tiennou/blacktree-alchemy/localization-and-making-embedded-actions-show-the-main-window-with-result-or-not if you want to help).
- German and French localization have been updated.

Awesome!

This version is feeling rather snappy and triggers are indeed
displayed correctly, Yay!!!

Will continue playing with it, thanks again.

A universal build would be nice :)

Should we post things that are already mentioned on Google Code? Specifically, these two (which are duplicates):

http://code.google.com/p/blacktree-quicksilver/issues/detail?id=131
http://code.google.com/p/blacktree-quicksilver/issues/detail?id=275

I don't think it's the plug-in because “OmniWeb Active Page” fails in the same way.

From the testing I’ve done, this is the only thing keeping me on b54.

Wow. Am I wrong in thinking this is the first non-"a" (I'm assuming
that means alpha) build of QS since Alcor released it into the wild
and went off to work for Google?

This build seems solid and stable and fast and Snow Leopard
compatible.

My thanks to all the developers who have seemingly saved Quicksilver
from oblivion.

After a long period where it seemed like QS was petering out, the last
month or two things have really seemed to pick up some steam.

There should be a donation link somewhere...

Yep - I'd like to second you on this, elspub, on all counts. A really big thank you to all involved for your time and efforts. Hey, André - I hope you're not sleeping too much, man?!!?

Any bugs that are STILL present in these builds should be moved over
to the new Github repository.

The Google issues are being left to die, but if some are still
relevant then do re-post them

Development really has vamped up! I need to crack on with actually
learning my Cocoa (it kinda failed last summer) so I can do more! :)

I'd love to send some money to these fine fellows as well. I know the
original developers repeatedly rejected offers for money, but it
really is something worth paying for. The fact that it's open source
now makes it even more worthwhile.

Thanks for the amazing job.
just curious if there's any plan to bring back the modifier-only(e.g.
double cmd) activation? just an ask, never thought to push anything.

There is a plan, but it requires some work. I'm aware Visor and Google Search Box both have this functionality working right now, so its just a matter of time.

A feature request I have in mind is extending the current approach to become Trigger-compatible (as in, being able to set arbitrary triggers with single or double tap modifiers).

if i just moved my existing b56 from the applications folder instead
of overwriting with b57 would i be able to roll back easily? i am just
playing it safe in case b57 doesn't work.

also do we need to trash any prefs for the upgrade?

thanks.

You should archive your old version (Right-click > Compress (or Archive) in /Applications
Then move aside
/Users/[yourusername]/Library/Application Support/Quicksilver
and
/Users/[yourusername]/Library/Preferences/com.blacktree.Quicksilver.plist
Then delete
/Users/[yourusername]/Library/Caches/Quicksilver

This will effectively make it like you've just installed it, and you can always restore to ß56 by putting back your old folders.

Another approach: I created a 512 MB sparse bundle (using Disk Utility) to keep various versions of Quicksilver, preferences, Application Support, etc. backed up. It’s unmounted most of the time, which keeps them hidden from Launch Services, but it’s much easier to deal with when I want to add things to it or pull things out.

It's not that I think guns, drugs, prostitution, swimming, eating and reading should be legal. It's just that no one on Earth has the authority to make them illegal.

same, that is.

Feels snappier indeed, but now when I trigger the assigned hot key for
a shell script it opens the quicksilver window like waiting for my
approval. (If I press enter it executes the script instantly) How can
I avoid that window? In B54 it used to run the shell script
automaticly without any prior window.

works very well on snow leopard! Thanks.

I'd like to dig up some of my previous suggestions for further
action :)

1. Indexing: http://groups.google.com/group/blacktree-quicksilver/browse_thread/thread/1967a33a52d7ac98/e9586b406fd6637a
and http://groups.google.com/group/blacktree-quicksilver/browse_thread/thread/e227793f4b38d137/734da295799d1fb3

2. add quicklook support with customizable view size (e.g, how does
Bibdesk do it for previewing PDF files?)

3. high res icons for prefpanes:

good points and useful info. does b57 worth with the existing settings
or does it need to be installed from scratch?

I backed up my settings before updating, but kept them in place to see
if they'd work. And they do. I've had no issues. I'd recommend back up
your settings (including a .zip of your existing Quicksilver.app), but
keep them. Worst case scenario you upgrade, find it buggy and then
delete all your older settings. QS will create a fresh application
support folder/preferences file, if there isn't one and it will be as
good as new.

you know it just hit me that i have all the old files in my time
machine backups so i can always roll back easily. i think i will still
back up those prefs though.

is there a packaged application download rather than one we have to
build with Xcode?

The download page only has a pre-built binary:

http://github.com/tiennou/blacktree-alchemy/downloads

No need for XCode :-)

that's interesting. it turns out 'speed download' was the problem as
it was downloading a folder and not an application with numerous
subfolders and files and that's why i was confused. never had that
issue before so not sure what it was doing but once i had Safari
download the file with its built-in downloader instead it worked
beautifully.

thanks again.

i can now report that b57 is working nicely on my end. one thing that
has been fixed is the visibility of function symbols for the keys in
triggers. even though function-based triggers were working with b56 on
snow leopard, it was hard to distinguish the hotkeys since the F
characters were not showing.

on a related note, new triggers seem to still require toggle on/off
once hotkey is set to be active but this is a very minor gripe.
