We learned from 1979 through 2000 that people would install PV at 25%
growth rate, doubling the installed quantity every 3 years.
We learned the price went down 19% for PV every time we doubled the
installed base.
We learned that if we projected these trends out into the future that
PV would take over as the whole electricity supplier no later than 35
years from now, in the year 2042.
We learned that our national electric bill would be $9,106,650,000,000
just paying the same monthly bills every month for 35 years, changing
nothing, doing nothing different than we do today.
We learned that switching to PV at an accelerated pace, we could save
$5,392,521,000,000 in that 35 years by not paying monthly electric
bills.
Global Warming Has Been Cancelled by H2-PV
A 25% growth of PV per year, as happened from 1979 through 2000, until
Bush crowd took over, projected into the future shows three FREEDOM
DAYS.
A 19% price decrease every time the installed PV base doubles, as
happened from 1979 through 2000, until the Bush crowd took over, shows
the price of each FREEDOM DAY. Doubling occurs every 3 years at 25%
compounded annual growth.

FREEDOM DAY #1 is the date that the PV watts installed equals the
whole country consumption of electricity. Other sources are still
needed for off-hours power.
FREEDOM DAY #2 is the date that the PV doubles and the extra PV goes
to storing energy at 50% round trip efficiency or better, like power
is now stored in pumped reservoirs at 50% efficiency electricity to
electricity round trip.
FREEDOM DAY #3 is the date when PV surplus is sufficient to power all
electricity and make hydrogen sufficient to fuel all 200,000,000 cars
and light trucks in America.
THE COST OF NOTHING is also computed. This is the costs of paying for
electricity at the meter forever and ever, changing NOTHING, doing
NOTHING.

Using a factor of 25% annual growth over 35 years would result in the PV
industry being 2,500 times bigger after those 35 years.
That would mean subsidies in the multi billions where they are millions now.
Japan's PV subsidy for 2003 was USD 87 million.
http://www.iea-pvps.org/pvpower/17_06a.htm
That would scale to USD 217 billion in 35 years using the above figure !

A regular 19% reduction over 10 years would mean a $600 100W panel would cost
$73 in 2017. Or $25 in 2022 !
Does that seem likely ?
Graham
Hard to tell. There are many factors ivolved in the equation, but 19%
seems to agressive, too optimistic IMO.
That means the PV panels wil cost 1/3 in 2017. But... it's speculation.

Growth rate has been over 30% since 1996.
http://www.frankhaugwitz.info/doks/pv/2006_03_China_PV_Industry_Critical_Review_Trends_and_Outlook_Nicoletta_Mariggo.pdf
The previously mentioned take off of the Chinese PV industry is
clearly visible in the figure and seems to follow the global trend
quite closely but with a noteworthy difference: while global PV
production has been growing at an average annual rate of 36% since
1997, the annual growth of production capacity in China has been
nearly double this, 70%, during the same period.
http://www.iea-pvps.org/products/download/pap1_061.pdf
The annual rate of growth of cumulative installed
capacity in the IEA PVPS countries remained fairly
steady at an impressive 42 %, with Germany's
cumulative installed capacity growing at 80 % (similar to
the previous year) and Japan's growth rate also quite
steady at 26 %. The corresponding figures for growth of
the annual markets are 40 % for IEA PVPS countries,
75 % for Germany and 6 % for Japan. These growth rates
have resulted in Germany now overtaking Japan with the
highest level of installed capacity both in terms of total
capacity (1 429 MW) and installed capacity per capita
(17,3 W/capita).
http://www1.eere.energy.gov/ba/pdfs/res_pv.pdf
Estimation of costs for highly evolving products like photovoltaic
modules and systems over several decades is a very difficult task. One
method is to extrapolate from historical data. A useful tool for
performing extrapolations of the costs of manufactured products from
historical data is the learning curve [19-21]. This method is derived
from examination of cost data for many different industries, which has
found that the cost of the product in constant dollars is a geometric
function of the product's cumulative volume. The price reduction
expected for a doubling of volume is known as the learning curve
factor. The learning curve may be combined with an annual projected
growth rate to estimate the annual reduction in product cost.
Data for the price of PV modules, as a function of cumulative volume,
has been analyzed by several groups, and they reported learning curve
factors between 0.68 and 0.82 [19-21]. The more conservative learning
curve factor of 0.82 was used in this study because analyses of many
other industries have found similar values [21]. This value means that
a doubling of the cumulative volume of PV modules sales will reduce
the cost of PV modules to 82% of its previous value. The annual growth
rate in PV module sales has been between 15-20% in recent years
[22,23]. Given the strong demand for PV modules and the broad interest
in accelerating adoption of PV energy (e.g., Million Solar Roofs
Initiative), an annual growth rate of 20% can be conservatively
assumed. A learning curve factor of 82% and assumed growth rate of 20%
yield an estimated price reduction of 5% per year. An annual growth
rate of 20% and annual cost reduction of 5% is used to generate the
projections for the years 2000-2030 (Table 3). The price of $3.15 in
1997 is based on the estimated module price of one of the lowest
recent bid system prices ($5.76/W for SMUD PV Pioneer residential PV
systems). The average wholesale price of crystalline-silicon PV
modules has stayed around $4.00/W in recent years because of increased
demand and constrained capacity. Table 3 illustrates the potential of
the technology, given a more mature market.

Tsk tsk. You just can't open your fucking hole without rancid effluvium

You grew up in a dysfunctional family, didnt you? Did your Exxon-emplyed

Lion, are you brain damaged? No, seriously. I'm really concerned that
you're incapable of handling life in the real world, and you're just a

It's obvious that you are. Get help, Lion. Or at least take your meds.
One sq. foot of PV panel costs considerable more than 10 cents.
Try 100 dollars instead.
Lion, you are not doing your cause a favor by lying about the price of
what it takes to realize your PV dream.

yeah, there's no reason to expect precision machined 8 nines
purity semiconductors with silver contacts to cost more than tar
covered paper. Right.
Idiot.
Why are you saying all those nasty things about the cyber-cafe owner?
What did he ever do to you hanson?
Which is precisely why machined 8 nines purity semiconductors with
silver contacts will not EVER be used in net energy pv panels. These
technologies have had their chance and totally blew it.
Think inkjet on massive sheets instead.
http://www.tinaja.com/glib/energfun.pdf
cite please.
You said "precision machined 8 nines purity semiconductors with silver
contacts" but he said "pv panels". You hurt Don's feelings now, since
he hates Silicon PV, obviously that would not be what he is talking
about. He Don, did you know that Bill really ignores everything you
say?
Don would be talking about CIGS or Quantum Dots or unicorns,
vaporware, anything that isn't really on the market to help delay
sales of of products he is paid to sabotage that actually are
available today for purchase.
By telling you to delay any long-term commitments, he steals customers
away from his employer's competitors, and injures their business...
actually injures America, but his employers have been doing that for a
century.
People don't roof with "tar paper" in the first place, and
Asphalt composition roofing shingles are already precision machined
within the tolerances set for them by expensive freakin' machines, and
5-nines purity (with 8-nines boron and phoshorus) is not that hard,
and
The human race has 60 years accumulated knowhow at getting better at
the whole thing.
Put those TRUE FACTS together and Don is unwittingly correct.
The cost per square foot of Si PV will hit 30 cents per square foot,
same as the cost of cheap asphalt composition shingles in a decade.
That's on the ground materials, not roof-installed.
Actually, there's every reason to expect composition shingles to
increase in cost rapidly, as primarily derived from oil refinery
wastes. Just as a reminder, it was the ASPHALT REFINERY part of
Valero's Oil Refinery that blew it's top last week in a disaster WORSE
THAN THE HINDENBURG.
With refinery fires on average once a week over the last two months,
you'll be lucky if you can buy gasoline, let alone asphalt out of
these ever-more-expensive refineries.
Even tar paper is likely to get too expensive -- you are headed
towards flattening beer cans for shingles like some third world
squattertown because you kept all your eggs in one energy basket with
no backup plan.
Yeah, asphalt shingles are felt PAPER saturated with tar with
sand sprinkled on. Fiberglass shingles are the same thing except with
glass filaments impregnated into the paper. and there's absolutely no
precision involved in the machining, a single shingle can have
thickness variations in excess of 1/16 inch. saturated zones,
unsaturaed zones and dimensional variations of up to 10% try that on
pv panels and you will never get a watt of power out of them.

now, if 5 nines purity were good enough, we'd be set, but alas,
it isn't.

shit happens, if pv were manufactured in the quantities asphalt
is, you'd see dozens of dead workers due to hydroflouric acid
exposure, industry is dangerous, get used to it.

See, you are getting close to admitting what everybody else knows,
that 5-nines is indeed sufficient, and we are set.
The acid wash is what gets rid of those pesky boron and phosphorus too
small to even be detected by normal chemical analysis techniques. If
it wasn't for that step Solar-Grade PV would already be cheaper than
tar paper roofs, which it will be in ten years as that step gets
totally automated.
The silicon is nothing but sand and oxygen, and the aluminum even
resides in the same ore deposits sometimes. It's cheap, cheap, cheap,
once you know what you are doing. You couldn't explain it to anybody
100 years ago, and you can't explain it to anybody whose knowledge is
still 100 years behind the times, but not everybody is a stoopid
hillbilly gun-nut.

837 MW in Germany times four hours peak daily (guessing) = 3,348
MWhrs, times 50 cents retail mandatory price =$1,674,000,000. That
$1.6 BILLION in Germany as of LAST YEAR. That's also an avoided 140 MW
coal plant.

2006 WORLD PV INDUSTRY REPORT HIGHLIGHTS:
World Solar PV Market up 34% in 2005; 837 Megawatts Installed In
Germany
World solar photovoltaic (PV) market installations reached a record
high of 1,460 Megawatts (MW) in 2005, representing annual growth of
34%.
Germany's PV market installations grew 53% to 837 Megawatts in 2005,
corresponding to 57% of the world market.
This is a level eight times the size of the United States market.
Japan's 14% growth took it to 292 MW.
Solar cell production reached a consolidated figure of 1,656 MW in
2005, up from 1,146 MW. Japanese producers maintained their leadership
with 46% share, while Europe accounted for 28%. US cell production was
156 MW in 2005.
Cumulative installed solar PV electricity generating capacity expanded
by 39% in 2005 and now exceeds 5 Gigawatts worldwide. Investment in
new plant to manufacture solar cells exceeded $1 billion in 2005.
Meanwhile, the PV industry raised more than $1.8 billion on capital
markets over the past 12 months across 27 recorded financial
transactions.
Despite a rise of 12% in silicon feedstock capacity, tight supply
caused long-term polysilicon contract prices to increase by up to 25%.
Solarbuzz market demand forecast scenarios show worldwide industry
revenues will reach $18.6 to $23.1 billion with annual PV
installations between 3.2 and 3.9 Gigawatts in 2010.
As the rate of increase in German demand is set to moderate, the
report highlights the growth in Southern Europe, which has become the
new target for rapid market development.
Marketbuzz 2006 also projects resolution of current silicon supply
shortfalls within the five-year forecast period.

I suspect it would be fruitless to expect you to explain that comment but I'll
give it a try anyway.
Why's that Don ?
Graham
EEYORE the LIE-ore... Don's going to be hurt that you never paid any
attention to his drunken ramblings told scores of times over and over.
Don believes in the CIGS fairy and the Quantum Dots Leprechan are
going to stop being vaporware "real soon now" and cover every house
which cheaper than silicon (which is cheap as dirt) PV. He 'gotcha"
because you can only think of PV as silicon, which he hates because
the Priest at the Church of Exxon said it's Satanic.
Both will end up as high volume mass produced commodities of comparable
complexity.
There is NO conventional silicon pv that EVER has produced net energy.
The whole conventional silicon pv industry is a smoke and mirror scam to
delude people into buying gasoline destroying net energy sinks. It is a
classic example of an engineering rathole.
ABSOLUTE PROOF of this is that not one utility anyplace ever is using
silicon pv for routine subsidy free and greeniepr free avoided cost
peaking. Because it costs too damn much. And that they have dramatically
scaled back on research site expansions until some product arrives that
has a snowball's chance in hell of eventually producing competitive net
energy emerges.

Now then, let me administer to you, "Awe Shit", for your benefit:
"nasty" you say?... It's not nasty at all. It's only the cyber echo of
YOUR own calls in your "cyber cafe" ...i.e. just look at the above
examples of how YOU talked to Peter... What's your complaint?

Now, you "Awe Shit", whom you now refer to as "he", whines:

So then, let me administer to you, "Awe Shit", for your benefit:

So give me one good reason why I shouldn't have fun with you,

For $.99 you can buy a website name from GoDaddy.com and my cybercafe
owner will host it for you on his reseller program account for $5 a
year, with UNLIMITED email accounts. Isn't that a great deal? Come on
cheapskate, you can afford $1 to become Hanson-Turds.Exxon-Turds.info
can't you, with the fat checks you said Exxon was paying you?
Then you could spam the internet with fake names like frigwatch and
GayLopez and Bawama.mama. You could even let my cyber cafe owner take
the blame, since he's so senile I don't think he pays attention.
Come on, retire that stoopid "hanson" alias and get something 21st

It of course causes a chuckle, "Awe Shit", but even if you now

Of course, Kuntz will be left free to post his sub-intellectual,
fanatically compulsive pinko-green tripe, by which Kuntz
demonstrates rather convincingly the 3 fundamental tenets
of Greenism, namely that

No, no, no, Ray. Lion Kuntz aka "Awe Shit" is just a very lonely old
Cabron & Pendejo who suffers in his "secure basement" wankering
away and having nightmares of regret over how he has wasted his
life and his career away, which is why he projects his self-hatred
onto anybody... & in his psychosis onto any*thing* that is a success.
Kuntz's loud barking into cyberspace is the only human interaction
which that pathetic lonely and forlorn old bastard Leon still has left.
Hence he welcomes and deeply appreciates any response he can
get as can be seen in all of Kuntz' never ever ending begging retorts.
So, I try to cheer "Awe Shit", the poor Olde Kacker, up with my posts,

------------------- Epilog ----------------
Lion Kuntz is/has been undoubtedly the most hilarious poster
in these *enviro groups. He, Lion Kuntz, aka "Awe Shit" like all
his few other lesser pinko-green minions, has a common delusion:
These fanatical turds do obsessively believe that their posting
will produce or influence inter/-national politics and policy...
That *** Money talks -but- Green Bullshit walks *** is foreign to
them. So:*** "Let'em sing!... All of'em!... It's a beautiful choir! ***
ahahahaha...
So, lets not beat on Le Cuntsie too hard otherwise he'll really begin
to cry and go away... and with him all the fun that he so unwillingly
but fanatically provided... ahahahaha... AHAHAHAHAHAHA...
***Thanks for the laughs, Leon, Le Cuntsie! ***
PS: Le Cuntsie est argot français pour le lion Kuntz

No, no, no, Ray. Lion Kuntz aka "Awe Shit" is just a very lonely old
Cabron & Pendejo who suffers in his "secure basement" wankering
away and having nightmares of regret over how he has wasted his
life and his career away, which is why he projects his self-hatred
onto anybody... & in his psychosis onto any*thing* that is a success.
Kuntz's loud barking into cyberspace is the only human interaction
which that pathetic lonely and forlorn old bastard Leon still has left.
So, I try to cheer, "Awe Shit", the poor Olde Kacker up with my posts,
hoping that he will get some of his destroyed, long gone self-esteem
back.
Unfortunately he, "Awe Shit", appears to be gone so far down the
drain that he does not catch on anymore in his convulsions, which
is why I asked him many times what meds his Dr. prescribed him.
... and so, as things stand now "Awe Shit" has become an endless
source for chuckles and laughs for all our interns & recruits who
look upon Loin Cunts like the bumper sticker that says:
****** "Hire the handicapped --- they are fun to watch ********

--- Latest Update on mental patient Lion Kuntz' situation: ---

As can be seen patient Leon's condition has worsened.
After he read the above he, Kuntz , had a very brief flash
of lucidity in his despicably sad and sorry existence, but
his long term ingrained habits & obsessions overwhelmed
and impaired Leon's road to recovery and he got checked
back into our modern and 1st class mental health care
facilities at Ravencrag, where we were about to administer
to him. - By/thru his habitual lies and deceptions he evaded
the care and protection of our administering interns and he
escaped from the mental health ward at Raven crag.

Remember now, Leon, whenever you get lonely again, &/or
you begin to feel that inner upwelling of hatred and fanaticism
all you have to do is to go for help to your resource kit here:
