1. We admitted we were powerless over our addiction - that our houses
could hold no more aquariums
2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore
us to sanity
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our aquariums over to the care
of God as we understood God
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of all our livestock
5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to all of our fish the exact
nature of our wrongs
6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of water
quality
7. Humbly asked God to remove our extra aquariums
8. Made a list of all fish we had harmed, and became willing to make
amends to them all
9. Made direct amends to such fish wherever possible, except when they
were already dead
10. Continued to take inventory and when we had too many fish promptly
admitted it
11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious
contact with God as we understood God, praying only for knowledge of
God's will for our aquariums and the power to carry that out
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we
tried to carry this message to other fishoholics, and to practice
these principles in all our aquariums

Last night as hubby and I were checking out a newly discovered fish store to
hopefully get some more barbs for the newly planted tank I finally admitted
I may have reached my limit as far as maintenance time with the tanks. A
good first step towards admitting I may have a problem...
But, the store had great prices, knowledgeable workers and was close to a
great BBQ and ice cream place.

At the end of May while digging for a walkway, we found this enormous
rock. While my first inclination was to make a rock garden, I quickly
noticed that the rock had "promise" of a nice waterfall - so a hole
for my new pond was excavated.
Haven't worked on it much since - it's been a hectic month for me. But
I plan to work on my project and have something going before winter
sets in.
I have made a website, which I will update as my pond progresses.
Looking forward to learning much from this group!

i don't think i've ever met one of them i didn't like - though the
Blood Parrot maybe comes close: i think they're freaky and (duh - as
hybrids) so unnatural. but even there, there's a charm, a beauty -
sort of like some folks get misty for the balloons, mollies or
gouramis, but not the Jellybeans... i've only actually seen those
once, at a Big Als, and before i left the store i was pretty sure that
they knew how disgusting ad slimy i thought they were for selling a
dyed fish.
when i left my parents home as a young man (and my dozen tanks), i
drifted out and away from the hobby for a quite a few years, but about
a year and a half or so ago i bought a 29 gallon - why 29? why not 30?
- tank and 6 dime angels. those six are now down to 2, a gorgeous gold
male and a not so gorgeous white female (i've seen many naturally
paired angels in my time, and have often commented on how the big
beautiful boys always seem to go for the more "homely" females -
although in the case of this pair, it was most definitely her decision
to take him, and she ripped the stomach out of the other female, who
was much prettier imho, within days of becoming sexually mature.
i am also quite intrigued by the idea of mixing wild caught and tank
raised angels together, letting pairs form in that sort of grouping,
in hopes that the wild mates would teach their tank-raised relations
how to behave more naturally, and as the fry started to spread
throughout the hobby perhaps they would bring a revived set of
instincts back to the captive angels = of course, i'd have to get the
fish farms to agree to stop pulling the eggs after a spawn so that
individual angels with faulty instincts would end up not contributing
to upcoming generations no matter how pretty they were.
oh yeah, and for some reason, when i'm in e-mails i talk too much.

Hi Pierce, if your thing is the big South American cichlids then
you're going to be working your way up to some serious water volumes.
Lots of people here with Angels, and like you, my post's 'brevity' are

I have a growing number of small tanks . . . female guppys, male
guppys, glass fish, white clouds, tetras, dwarf frogs, male bettas
You know it's bad when you start buying tanks and bringing them to
work . . . I've got a 5 gallon and 2.5 gallon there.
I have always enjoyed gardening. I am finding that I also enjoy
growing water plants.
I figured it was about time to find some like-minded people to
converse with.

I've been "fishing" for a little over a year and my wife finally got me to
get online for more than the random recipe here and there!
I have 2 - 55 gallon tanks and I love them. I enjoy reading all of the

Hi 'Duna,
Lots of planted tank people here. You'll find a lot of information
searching the archives or posting questions, as well as on the Krib
web site. http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/

My name is Rondo and keeping an aquarium(s) is a hobby of mine. I
recently went through the tragedy of a roommate killing all but one of
my fish (of which I'm hoping to bring back from near death) due to
feeding them more than a small pony could eat. I mostly enjoy the
various type of goldfish, especially lionheads and telescopes. I also
keep a small tank that houses a betta. Glad to be part of the group.

Hello, Its been about 10 years since I've kept fish. I've decided
its time to get my hands wet again. I used to keep 8 tanks ranging
from 30 to 55 gal raising and breeding discus, african and SA
cichlids. I plan on one(only) tank of at least 125 gallons by end of
year this year. I'm lloking forward to reading about all that has
changed in the hobby, especially new technology available. I also
plan a pond but have heavy red clay and will need to dig by hand. It
may take a while for me to work up the energy to get that started
Nice to have you here and hope to hear that you have your tank up and
running soon.
Cheers

Welcome back. I think there are quite a few of us who have returned to the hobby after taking a few years or decades off. I never completely left, but my aquariums were at the bottom of my priority list for a very long time. One of the first things I did on return was to scour the stores and the internet for popular aquarium magazines, and I was pleased to find that all of the BIG MAGS were still in business. And they are all offering a good bit of their contents to internet folks without requiring paid subscriptions. FAMA, Freshwater and Marine Aquarium, began publishing their entire issues in downloadable PDF format a few months ago. FAMA and Aquarium Fish International are both published by the same company, and their web site is a joint effort that provides all sorts of options for checking out what's happening. It takes a bit of clicking, but there are numerous archived articles here. http://tinyurl.com/36afx4
Tropical Fish Hobbyist is another magazine that’s been around forever, their website is http://tinyurl.com/36afx4
Across the Atlantic is Practical Fishkeeping, from Great Britain. http://tinyurl.com/2xbtm
Some or all of these sites may require registration, I’m signed up at all of them and I have never received a single advertisement or annoying email from any of them. Never. I need to be careful with that word. Maybe I should change it to “so far” or “to date”.
Online aquarium supply stores are another good source for catching up. ThatFishPlace, Drs Foster and Smith, and Big Al’s are three of the major players. Plenty of neat stuff to look at, along with helpful articles about their merchandise.

My name is Rick. When I was growing up, my father and I each had 20
gallon freshwater aquariums. I lost touch with the hobby, but now that
I have kids, thought it was time to jump back in. I did it right this
time; I read as much as I could *before* getting started so I could do
it right (I never knew how much I didn't know! :-)
We currently have a 30 gallon tank with an adult Fancy Guppy (a
female), a rubber-lipped pleco, 2 Otto Catfish, a Pictus Cat, a small
(for the moment) Bala Shark, an Angel Fish, 4 Neon Tetras, and an
Upside-Down Catfish.
We also have a 2.5 gallon tank with a Red Claw Crab, and my two kids
each have a small tank with a Betta.
Post any pictures you take of your fish if you get chance. We love
photos here
Cheers

Also, if the group needs anything hosted, I would be glad to do that
on my site. I saw you had a photo contest recently, I would love to
host the next one. If you are interested let me know.
I just started keeping shellies. I've got a tank of featherfin brevis
that I'm hoping will breed for me.

Hi Dan! I'm another Dan & I believe that there are several more on
the group. Good name. ;-)
I'm just this guy, not a moderator or anything, but this is a great &
friendly group. I probably say that so often that people on the list
are tired of hearing it, but it's true.
Definitely lots of good stuff to browse & search. Enjoy! Be sure to
post with any questions, etc., or join in on the discussions.

I love cichlids, of course. ;) But lately, I had been interested in
freshwater stingrays. It's too bad they were not allowed in
California. And it's a good thing that I'm now in Peru. *grin*
I currently own a fish export company. I feel blessed to be able to
work in something I enjoy so much. And I'm looking forward to being a
part of this group.
Thank you!

What makes them so bad? I'm not disagreeing with you, just curious.
The quality of the content is erratic, and there is no way for an
uneducated reader to determine the accuracy of a particular article.
There is a good article on goldfish, but some real losers on disease.
Most of the fish profiles (if you have the patience to find them) are
not filled in. Plus the site is painfully slow, making it very
difficult to find content that might be of interest in the poor
layout.
--Altum
And I really have to wonder how much care has gone into the site when I follow their links and find totally irrelevant advertising instead of the content the link promised. http://www.fishforsale.com/

On TFA right now I'm offered sponsored links as follows: "Date my wife
please", "Win back their attraction", and "Oscar Fish Lovers Beware -
Stop killing your favourite wet pets; Expert reveals care secrets".
Then under related pages, also on the right, it's better "Fish
profiles - Information about freshwater species, including
Angelfish" (!), "Open Directory - Recreation: Pets: Fish and
Aquaria...".

Goldfish are the key to your oscar's affection. You know, "a goldfish
a day keeps the doctor away". Angelfish culls may be an acceptable
substitute.
Google's advertising is constantly changing. Now sponsored links are
"Fish picture", "The world's biggest fish" and "Wholesale aquarium
fish". So how come that before, two out of 3 sponsored links were
dubious ones, but now they're all on-topic?
d.
Goldfish are nice and meaty. Angels have too much gristle for a satisfying
meal.
MG
Angelfish would be like a wild hen you hunted down and then was
disappointed to find so little meat after all your hard work.
