You're in the right place, Summer! Excellent info on planted tanks

Searching the group archives will yield a wealth of info & looking

Congratulations on the Mollies! When I see healthy, hardy Mollies in
a fish store I always pay closer attention to all of their fish, being
that I see that as a good sign. You might want to start a new thread
& tell us about them.

The longer I am with keeping the aquarium the more knowledge that I
got about the science of aquarium keeping, and I started to switch my
interest further into setting up planted aquarium. As a matter of
fact, I tried setting up planted nano tank at first. Decided to set up
another one at bigger still, but frankly, being really busy lately
that I haven't started it yet.
Anyway, you are welcome to read about my aquariums at my blog here
http://blog.mohdimran.com/search/label/Aquarium
Hoping to make friends with other fresh aquarium keepers out there ;)
I have had lots of aquariums, but none was big enough for me :) Now
I'm planning to set up a 50 gallon tank for discus, cories and
cardinal tetras, and another small tank for dwarf cichlids (specially
rams).

I'm Jesse, and wandered this way after a long hiatus from Usenet, only
to discover the sidewalks rolled up in that part of town. Poor usenet,
trolls under every bridge :(
Anyway, about e...I live in the Atlanta GA area, and currently run a
55 with 2 Severums, 2 Syno eupterus (sp?) catfish, and some barbs as
dither. My other tank is a tall 20 plant tank with a few tetras and a
small angel. The current project is getting a crop of glossistigma to
take to the plant tank, and getting the tank looking spiffy, which
will mean going back to being a chemistry nut :-)
I look forward to participating....I worked for a fish store for a few
years, and still remember how much more fun it is to help with other
folks' tanks than it is to get all soggy yourself :D Hopefully folks
will school me on my aquarium keeping as well.

keep Malawi cichlids in one of my tanks - interesting and very
colourful fish :-)

55g planted w/ CLs, Neons, Kuhlis, Cories, Kribs and a chocoPlec...
10g planted "almost show quality" low-tech, almost no maintenance tank
w/Platies and an albino bristlenose plec we call Goldie
29g barely planted because the Jack Dempsey likes to tear them up...
He's almost a year old and he's 5.5" long.... and gorgeous.
29g barebottom with Leonard Shell occupying it's space. Lenny is a
red eared slider that just loves to be talked to and fed crickets...
big fat ones....
3-20Ls with leopard geckos of various patterns, mostly the wife's
hobby....
2 cats, a dog and a guinea pig we call Bilbo...
My first tank was my 10g low-tech tank and it's been up now for 6
years... I like it the best...

I recently purchased a house with a 3000 gallon koi pond - there are 6
koi in the pond ( approximately 12 inches plus) the only information
the prior homeowner gave me was here is a pond book and that he feeds
them twice a day with the pond pearls - I have been trying to figure
out the configuration of the pond and where the filter and pump are
( he has the pump on a switch in the house) but when I switch it on I
see no water movement. The fish look healthy at this point so I must
be doing something right but I'm sure its going to take me a minute to
figure out how this was set up - I was considering finding a local
pond person to see if they could help me with how this was configured

I will copy your post into a new discussion so that our ponding
friends can see it. When you post next put POND in capitals at the
beginning of the title. That helps too.

Hi! I'm James. My wife's the true aquarium lover; she tends one as
part of her work in a biology lab, and another at her parent's house,
but we don't have one in our house, yet. My wife is an impulse
shopper, with regard to fish just like she is with everything else.
She bought fish that will, when full grown be too many for her
parent's tank. She bought too few fish of each type, and didn't bother
checking what kind of temperature or water chemistry the different
types require. If and when we have our own aquarium, I'd like to put a
lot more thought into setting it up. That will include many questions
that I hope this group can help me answer.
My own ideas for an aquarium are, as is typical for me, rather
complicated; possibly too complicated for a beginner like myself to
attempt. Nonetheless, if my wife wants to have an aquarium, I want to
use it to try out my ideas. I'll post a seperate message with my
questions about my concept.
Cheers

Now I'm off to read old threads and FAQs so I can figure out what I'm
doing...
My wife and I have a 20H planted tank with two dwarf gourami, three
orange mollies, nine cardinal tetras, a yoyo (that Petco insisted was
a chinese algae eater -- he only cost me $2), two otos, a bamboo
shrimp, and a bunch of snails (some intentional, others not so much).
We've had the tank for about six months, and it's starting to look
pretty good.
I'm Northern Virginia, so if anyone knows of any good LFS in the area,
let me know!

my name is Norbert. I'm from Germany. I have been keeping tropical
fish for round about 30 years.
Tanks: 240L, 112L, 60L, 40L, 20L, 12L, 12L, 12L, 10L.
Fish: Apistogramma hoignei, Apistogramma baenschi, L 104(?), LDA25
Pitbull, Tanichthys albonubes, Hemigrammus bleheri, Hyphessobrycon
pulchripinnis, Fundulopanchax gardneri, Pterophyllum, Ancistrus,
Paracheirodon axelrodi
Shrimps: C. Japonica, Caridina cf. cantonensis var. Bee, Crystal Red,
Red Fire
Plants: different Echinodorus, Cryptocorynne, Alternanthera, Bacopa,
Vesicularia dubyana, Microsorum pteropus, Barclaya longifolia, Anubias
var. Nana
I'm runnig a web site about aquaria in german language since 1999.
Starting as an archive of interesting german newsgroup discussions, it
is now based on a Wiki. Because I have collected some pictures of ill
fishes, I've created some international pages with those pictures:
http://www.drta-archiv.de/wikidis/index.php/Diseases/Diseases
I think these pictures can be usefull in dicussions about fish
diseases.

My name is Laura and I joined the group yesterday. I'm in North
Carolina
I have a small 5 gallon aquarium that has been home to Neon Tetras for
the last few
years and a couple of Platys before that. Right now the tank is empty
and cycling for new tenants.
In the meantime I am trying to decide what to buy when the time is
right, I am considering maybe
platys again, or I have seen a couple of cute guppies. I have been
interested in Corys for a while.
Currently I'm working on learning about aquascaping.
Though I doubt I will be of much help to others (since I haven't been
very scientific in my approach to this hobby) I do appreciate you all
letting me join in.

Laura, hope you come up with something exciting for your 5g. I put 5
white cloud mountain minnows in mine (lost 1) and then added a male
betta. Love watching them. They seem so happy.

My name is Todd and I have a 250 gallon pond that I built myself. The
pond has been established for 5 years. I live near Boulder Colorado.

i have just set up a 30 gallon tank with an eheim canister filter. i
am right now trying to do a fishless cycle using ammonium chloride. i
only have gravel and a couple fake driftwood pieces in the tank now,
but the heater and filter are set up and running, and hopefully the
bacteria are starting to grow.
i'd like to eventually add live plants and a bunch of freshwater fish
to this tank, but i'm not sure exactly what i want yet, and i have a
few weeks until the cycle is finished.
i had a few tanks when i was younger, but that was about 15 years ago,
and i used the "darwinian" approach to aquaria: put stuff in and
whatever lives is what you have. i'm going to try to pay more
attention to the bacteria and chemical levels this time around because
i'd like to keep a healthy tank.
i'm sure i'll have all kinds of newbie questions!
