Dear All,

For those of you using Mapmaker and other, just in case you haven't
noticed, Google Mapmaker by default has blocked the editing of the
entire AJK and Northern Areas region in Pakistan. Data exists for the
Indian administered region though which is obvious since that region
they consider their own. I say THEY because Google Mapmaker is a
product of Google's India office and the tool was conceived and
launched initially by the Indian engineers.

Strangely all my queries regarding this have been met with silence so
far. Other wise the mapmaker team is quite prompt in offering their
solution on the mapmaker google group.

Badar,

Could you please get us an official response (if the problem is actually there) on this if possible? Thanks.

AJK and Northen Areas are not disputed territory. Indian occupied Kashmir is.

It would be interesting to see if Indian Googlers are doing something that is biased towards India and may not be authorized by the company in the first place.

I think TM is right to inquire about thsi situation - in all honesty google should not be a part [implied or un-implied] of this age old controversy unless directly instructed to do so

If instructed then its best to come out clean rather then cower behind an other explanation - this I know for sure Badar cannot make a statemnt unless he gets specific instructions from the top

Though this issue does become a haven political Blogger like me ;)

Great find - though I am subscribed to the Mapmaker list - I somehow missed this topic

Google Earth/Maps/Mapmaker are perceived as major threats by most paranoid governments. I would not be one bit surprised if this was as a direct action of Google by GoP's behest.

Pakistan, AJ&K and NAs are three seperate territories as far as administration is concerned. All three has their own councils :)

Oye All look what I found:

http://sites.google.com/site/mapmakeruserhelp/collaboration

The line reads just under the county listings table...
" Some regions in these countries may be locked for administrative
reasons. (Click the above links to view in Google Map Maker.) "
