Let's say I am contesting Fame. They both contest and are out of
play. During my untap, I relenquish my Fame.

The other Fame stays out of play until the other player's untap
phase. If I play another Fame during my master phase it why would it
contest?

Same question as if two people are contesting fame, and then a third
person plays a fame.

Because the rulebook says so:

4.1. Contested Cards
Some of the cards in the game represent unique resources, such as
specific locations, equipment or people. These cards will be
identified as "unique" in their card text. In addition, all vampire
cards represent unique vampires. If more than one copy of a unique
card is brought into play, that means control of the card is being
contested. For the duration of the contest, all copies of the
contested card are turned face down and are out of play. ***If an
additional copy of an already-contested card is brought into play, it
is immediately contested and turned face down as well. ***

As well as the fact that the rulebook says it...

Contested cards are only out of play with respect to
everything except being further contested.
***

Obviously, specifically card text can find them too, but the above
should help. Contested cards can "find" each other - as can contested
titles.

Then how does contesting an unique equipment work if i were to remove
the vamp with the equipment from the game with Descent into Darkness.
Also how does it effect master cards.

Descent into Darkness
Type: Action
Requires: Obtenebration
Cost: 1 blood
+1 stealth action.
[obt] Turn the acting vampire and any cards on him or her face down,
out of play (breaking any temporary control effects). Put this card on
him or her (in play). During your influence phase, move 2 blood to
this face down vampire from the blood bank, and you can choose to burn
this card to return the vampire to play, tapped.
[OBT] As above, but the vampire is untapped when he or she returns to
play.

That equipment ceases to be part of the contest.

The same.
