cw (white buffalo calf woman): Buffalo run, buffalo run, buffalo run into the sun. Buffalo run, buffalo run, buffalo run into the sun. Twins watch me grow. Twins help me sow. Twins be my hands, heaven demands, I am on the run. Run buffalo run, right into the sun. There our sounds will be heard, the snort of all it's worth. Buffalo run, buffalo run, buffalo run into the sun. Buffalo run, buffalo run, buffalo run into the sun. Feel the whispers of the grain, the waving calling of the sage. Don't you want to know this ruse, the buffalo has an eye on you. Run buffalo run. Run buffalo run. Come and shelter your woes, there we will be on our hooves. Can't you see the green hills, all the places the cows do fill. And each and every one of us, are relatives to this sacred cup.
cw: Sunlight, who is next speaker, I would like to hear about the Ghost Dancer. Aho.
Ghost Walk (New Moon Dance)
Katchee Tope wha: “the Clouds that Dance Ceremony” (9) The ghost walk
sl: Sunlight: Aho Twin Deer Mother, yes, I hear you. I will present a ghost dancer, at the end you will do the final name or great name. Yes I hear you. This young man says, he has been doing the ghost dance for about a 100 years and would like to tell you the story. His name is Birthing Rite. And he brings to us the Ghost Dance, walking the talk (wankan tankan, or great spiritual being inside of you). I put the talking stick in his hands.
br: Birthing Rite: (he bows to me and then turns and bows to Holiness David) I come today to share my story. Many are concerned about the weather changes that are occurring in the world. We are truly amazed at the accuracy of the weather reporting, however, this stillness that we are leaning into shutters inside, like a film projection still not recorded. In others words, you are dreaming it up, you image your shot, then take your photo. This is the Sun Dance from within. When we dance and bring into projection, the wild untamed bridle of a wild soul, reaching to get out, to spring forth, to radiate even electrify the world around, to form a electromagnetic net. We are becoming quite the warriors who are learning to play, to show the waves, to send our dreams forth, to create a place to become heroic and majestic in our greatness. When the darkness comes to us, once a month, the new moon displays, the haunting reality of our soul, that lies dormant, looking to shed it's light upon the world. Only this radiance is from within, streaming from our hearts. And if we don't allow this fulfillment to overtake us, then we preside to stand by while others take their dreams into their own hands. Many times people are learning to become their greatness. And many times, it's about the young people pairing up. But always it's about creation, from within the darkness our souls are birthed, our flesh is birthed, our beingness is birthed. All our dreams come to be known in the Moon Dance/Walk, this is when the darkness of the new moon shines your birth rite, the time of the ghost to live and dance. When the soul within shines out to be a river that directs the tools of light and colors that bind us together. For all our man kind we are looking for the best way to overcome our stresses in life. If we share our woes, dance our or on our toes, we cry a river that gleams, bringing light from within out to shine. It's blazing comes alive with creation and gratitude.
The last Ghost Walk, I did have a union of sorts. I met one of my wives. My first wife left me, because I could not give her what she needed. Then I met my Anny. She taught me more about humility than any man could. Yet she was tender to my soul. I remember watching her talk to the birds. And they seem to know to come to her side. She always was reverent to all our relations. But one day, Anny did not feel well at all. We were heading to the Great Hall to be servants to the Great Dance. She couldn't even walk. I suggested we stay home this month, but she said no. That one way or another we would get to the Great Dancing of the New Moon. She understood that the Ghost within her needed to be healed. And when we finally got there, she could barely walk, however, I got her inside a camper tent and she was able to rest. I remember knocking myself in the head bringing her to this great dance, it seemed such an ordeal. But with morning, she could stand up and walk. And she sat around all day, but she received others to join in prayers. By night fall, the ghost dance was full and in the darkness she came waltzing out. She moved so graceful, like a hawk in her dance. She seemed to know how to play off of everyone's rays. She bounced off each of the colors, that seem to strike out, shooting rays, even in the darkness. This is what our women know more than us men. But I noticed a illumination about her, like a ghost, smoke rising about her and she dancing together as one being. The light of the smoke seem to emerge and cast a shadow on the ground or in the air, as more and more smoke started to appear. the ghost dancers where in full effect. The souls did light up the sky that night, I remember, because in all her grace, I could see life pour back into her. What made her feel ill, was retrieved and opened for all to view, healed and make a new. She was a vision for my sore eyes. I did worry for her reckoning as she did not look good at all. But at nights end, and morning dawn, she had danced 6 hours. I couldn't believe it, but she was a new woman, radiant, full of rosy red cheeks, full of euphoria. She was looking for gathering around a fire, to sit and have a meal with relatives. Then to bed, but as the day continued, she still was up and about. I was concerned because just yesterday she could not walk, but after she was healed by the Ghost Walk, she found her way to being sacred duty bound and full of heavenly bound, willing to receive in great faith and to join with her soul, she danced and felt freedom after such pain, she has suffered. It's always harder on the family watching our relatives feeling pain, but as I learned on that day, we are most observant, when we care about someone, when we look for answers, only our hearts can cling to and have knowledge of what is perfect light. The ghost dance is a hall mark tradition that makes us want to grow up to be good servants, to be dutiful and to cling to the sacred circle once more. To bind with love in our hearts, to share what is important, our souls fly free, that is the liberty of the New Moon Dance, the Ghost Walk Prance. I put down the talking stick.
cw: Thank you Birthing Rite. Thank you for sharing your story and bringing the knowledge that the Ghost Dance can heal our souls as well. It's important for us to know all aspects of this great right of passage, for our amusement, but for greater meaning, our soul leaps to be heard, to be cast out of our beingness to be held close with others, to dance, celebrate and spring forth a new dawning. The soul has much to offer us, to guide us, to shine anew from within for us, but joy is not an easy road to follow, few do understand like elders of the band. yet we do know, that if we spend time teaching sharing and gifting the knowledge of Ghost dance, we will understand the path of enlightenment for all of our salvation. What is within , our soul, upon the blue our heavenly spirit that glows, this ghost is a holy spirit, that comes out to smoke or align the paths of division. Thank you for your great true. I bless you nine sacred directions too.
cw: WE cannot get into all the importance of the Ghost Walk (today), but we can share more in the weeks to follow.

Katchee Tope wha: “the Clouds that Dance Ceremony” (9) The ghost walk
Two Sacred Directions that flow through all of us!
to: It is I the Tall One, I have come to speak today. .take my breath away and gift it to another.
Every year the people who come together misunderstand the meaning of the ghost dance. we are here to gift the wisdom of the sacred ceremonies and often the world has misunderstood. we are obliged to gift the meaning of the ancient ones, who live in the valley of the magical mountains of paradise.
There is a dance that has been done for age and centuries, there is one people who are doing this correctly, they live inside the jungles of south America. they will hide until they are safe. they will not come out until the time of the cleansing.
This is the ceremony.
First take a female who has had no childbirth, she is one who has mated though, she must understand unity, but be firm in her purity of woman, without child. she is to be place inside a holding compartment, she is used to display the common language of creation. this is the where we are built, a box of twigs must be fashioned around her. (it plain box not sided, only form, made of twigs). This represents the relatives of all the worlds. These are bonding together when the man who longs and endures the safest path of cleavage. here he will go to the woman and hand her the magic staff. this staff is where the song of life shall sing and represent the loving hand of god's unity. he will only after he is finished dancing, enduring the dance until he is the last man standing, he then goes to her with the magic staff, he reaches into the box where she has been the center of creation. he pulls the stick back and forth after she has grabbed hold of the pole. The objective is the make a dance between the young warrior who is learning to protect the world and the woman who is the creator of the world. these dances are for young people who are child bearers. they are the foundation of the next generation and before entering this phase of parenthood, it is important to understand the sun within, the ghost without and the darkness where light collides. when an unborn child is held inside the womb, it is safe, it is secure and when it is born it depends on her for all it's needs. this is the the relationship we have with the universe. we depend on (her) all for our needs. we need gently protect her with all our light, and we need to become the warriors who protect the realms of darkness too. the truth is relying on each other. when we can finish the dance, the young people then come together held with ropes.
I can see all the people at the end of the dancing box ceremony, the people come up, like they are the king and queen of a party, and tie their hands to the ends of the pole, which looks like a round pole about 5 or 6 feet long, four inches wide, diameter. then they dance around the center of the box and then others warriors start to match up with other women and dance together with the poles around the box representing the universe. then they are here to find relations to marriage or partners for life. this ghost dance lasts for days and many relatives come to see the festival. when we use this for the pure, the young people can find each other and dance around together before coming close, this gifts them the use of vision, the eyes meet and the soul begins to dance. and then their is wisdom.
after the ceremony, many young people find heart's love. they find mates and many weddings often come soon after. the ghost dance is meant to find the star in the light of the universe that longs to know the creation of love and division of unity. the many parts are the foundation of a real love, the many part s that work together find a community. we are happy to announce that we have joined with you, in your walk with the royal blue. puts the stick down,
wd: Willy the terror of the night, Dreamer of hope.
i pick up the stick. my topic is the ghost walk, the place where the sun goes down.
Every time we dance in the sky, the twinkle of our heart collides with knowing you. we are the emanations of your loving home. we gift to you the lights from above so you will remember your way. the ghost dance reminds us of all the times past. all the heavens that lie within us and all the dreams that come tomorrow. we are learning to envision within the darkness of time. as we learn to be the bright light, we can be the hope of all tomorrows. if w e can dance and move in darkness without fear. take the blessed and keep the still in your heart, but offer the flowing that blows through you and teach them that the night sky offers the dance of hope. the place the fire can be seen, when all the lights are created and a universe is born, we can be united again. when you dance, we dance, when you are a bright fire, we are a bright fire. we hope for you to be the goodness of this purification process. t he dance and song, gift your heart to the universe. it is the blessing and hope of all tomorrows, but we often neglect the very thing that lies right in front of us, because we are seekers and seekers look forward into time and forget to look back. those who look back get stuck in time, and forget to dream forward, now, if we could just go back in time to know our dream and go forward in time to be our dream. then we are on the same path which ever direction we flow and when this is unified within our selves then the universe can explode into a bright living fire. the fire that is danced around is the culmination of many ancestors who gave and suffered to gift you tears of flowing an eternal giving of our sacred waters. there are many who do not understand that life must be respected and honored. but if we are devoid of a heart of even a cloud, then we are oppressive and not free. we may think it is not an insult to a cloud to make it vanish, but if it took loving tears to create the unity of flowing to dismiss it readily is to dismiss the past generations who cam e before to gift you everlasting life. we must respect even a cloud. this means the dirt upon our feet, the hole we accidentally stepped in and rock that stumbled our toe. this is when the heaven say, where is your harmony. where do you think you are going? if you need to stop, i will stub your toe. the place of recognition is where the sun dance in our hearts begin. the ghost is what rises when the heart of the universe is known. only the vision of a pure heart can become the glowing fire of sacredness and we the heaven and of earth come to say good night in your dreams and say we bless you and to say, we love you throughout your days. and when you are ready to come home, may you know the ghost dance is the holding of the universe within your heart, the flaming light of the sun. aho. puts the stick down.
wf: He is a shaman (healer, ministry), his name is Wheat fields that blossom to seeds that fly just call me Wheaty
It is how the ghost dance ties into the dance of the little girl who holds the ball.
never in my wildest dreams did i come to tell you such a story, we are living a new era, and we are so excited, but many do not realize the consequences and we are depending on you to open the many children who will walk into the new era with the Elders of Heaven. There will be much to do in Heaven, and we will have to rescue so many who rely on this demise. for they will have eternal life taken away, they will have to learn to trust again. and some will learn fast and others will not learn so well. these are the ones we need help from you. the true elders walk upon the earth, they commend actions that superimpose the reflection needed to finish the returning. Many warriors who use the ghost dance, mislead their actions, for the universe or star is born inside the girl. she is the real world, the birth of all light, the demise of all light, the seed of spirit, the seed of flesh, the darkness of holding still, to have and to hold, to enfold you, to implant the seed to grow, she is the dwelling place of life where innocence doesn't forget, but is pure hearted and when we each learn this mighty dance, the soul of the ghost, will walk free. The soul is the female darkness which lies within our heart, no matter who we are, no matter what we are (including male rainbow colors added by White Buffalo Calf Woman). no matter where we come from or go to. WE belong to the little girl, of innocence that is pure hearted that knows how to love another and care for them openly and honestly. each of us learning this, creates a doorway for us to enter, where light can be born a star can arise within, and we can be the eternal light of the sacred ball (sacred circle of the oneness of life). when the ghost is found, the girl of heaven's soul will be born again (dreams are birthed from heaven's ring, the heart of your soul).
i put the stick down.

Cherokee - The Daughter of the Sun
The Uktena is the great serpent of Cherokee tales who lives in the mountains. It has rings or spots of color along its body, is horned, is as large around as a tree trunk, and had once a bright, blazing jewel embedded in its forehead called the Ulunsuti. The Ulunsuti is a rutile quartz which, down one side, has a bright streak of red, making it a very rare specimen of quartz besides being sacred in connection to the Uktena. The Great Serpent lost the jewel at one point and the Cheokee people kept it in their possession.
The Uktena had the power to destroy all that Man held most dear and was so venomous that if he ever looked at someone, that person's whole family would perish. Even to look at it while it was sleeping. He isn't a patron of the Cherokee, but rather, is an enemy to be overcome. The Uktena could only be wounded in the seventh spot from his head because that is where the Uktena's heart was. He is normally slain by a hero in tales.
The reason that the Uktena is a creature of such threat is because he was very jealous and bitter towards Snake. Snake was honored and prayed to, (while the Uktena was not), because Snake had struck the Sun's daughter one day while she was opening the doors to the house for the Sun to come in. The Sun was angry and pained that the people liked Moon more. The people could gaze at Moon easily and did so often, complimenting him on his greatness, but when they looked up at Sun they would squint, make faces, and complain. Sun would have continued to burn the people to death as she had already done to hundreds for punishment. Without Her daughter to let Her come in, however, the people were saved.
The Sun lived on the other side of the sky vault, but her daughter lived in the middle of the sky, directly above the Earth. Every day as the sun was climbing along the sky arch to the west, she used to stop at her daughters house for dinner. Now, the Sun hated the people of this Earth, because they never looked straight at her without squinting. She said to her brother, the Moon, "My grandchildren are ugly, they screw up their faces whenever they see me.
But the Moon said, "I like my younger brothers, I think they are handsome."
This was because they always smiled pleasantly at his mild glow in the night sky.
The Sun was jealous of the Moon's popularity and decided to kill the people. Every day when she got near her daughter's house, she sent down such sultry heat that fever broke out and people died by the hundreds. When everyone had lost some friend ands it seemed as if no one would be spared, the humans went for help to the little men. These men, who were friendly spirits, said that the only way the people could save themselves was to kill Sun. The Little Men Made medicine to change two of the humans into snakes, the spreading adder and copperhead, who could hide near the daughter's door and bite the old Sun. The Snakes went up to the sky and lay in wait until the sun arrived for dinner. But when the spreading adder was about to spring, her bright light blinded him and he could only spit out yellow slime, as he does to this day when he tries to bite. The Sun called him a nasty thing and went into the house, and the copperhead was so discouraged that he crawled off without trying to do anything.
The people still dying from the terrible heat, went a second time to the Little Men for help. Again the Little Men made medicine and changed one man into the great Uktena, the water monster, and another into a rattlesnake. As before, the serpents had instructions to kill the old Sun when she stopped at her daughter's house. Uktena was large and fierce, with horns on his head, and everyone thought he would be sure to succeed. But the rattlesnake was so eager that he raced ahead and coiled up just outside the house. When the Sun's daughter opened the door to look for her mother, he struck and she fell dead in the doorway.
Forgetting to wait for the old Sun, he went back to the people, and Uktena was so angry at the rattlesnake's stupidity that he went back too. Since then we pray to the rattlesnake and don't kill him, because he wishes people well and never tries to bite if we don't disturb him. But Uktena grew angrier and more dangerous all the time. He became so venomous that if he even looked at a man, the man's whole family would e. Eventually the people held a council and decided that he was just too dangerous, so they sent him to Galun'lati, the world, where he still is.
When the Sun found her daughter dead, she shut herself up in the house and grieved. Now the people were no longer dying from the heat, but they lived in darkness. Once more they sought help from the Little Men, who said that in order to coax the Sun out, they must bring her daughter back from Tsusgina'i. This is the ghost country, which lies in Usunhi'yi, the Darkening Land in the west. The people chose seven men to make the journey. The Little Men told the seven to take a box, and told each man to carry sourwood rod a handbreadth long. when they got to Tsugina'i, the Little Men explained, they would find all the ghost at a dance. They should stand outside the circle, and when the Sun's daughter danced past them, they must strike her with the rods and she would fall to the ground. Then they could put her in the box and bring her back to her mother. But they must not open the box, not even a crack, until they arrived home.
The seven men took the rods and the box and traveled west for seven days until they came to the Darkening Land. There they found a great crowd of ghost having a dance, just as if they were alive. The Sun's daughter was in the outside circle. As she danced past them, one of the seven men struck her with his rod, and then another and another, until at the seventh round she fell out of the ring. The men put her into the box and closed the lid, and the other ghost never seem to notice what had happened.
The seven took up the box and started home toward the east. In a while the girl came to life again and begged to be let out, but the party went on without answering. Soon she called again and said she was hungry, but they did not reply. When at last the group was very near home, the daughter of the sun cried that she was smothering and begged them to raise the lid just a little. Now they were afraid that she was really dying, so they barely cracked the lid to give her air. There was a fluttering sound, and something flew past them into the bushes. Then they heard a redbird cry, "Kwish!Kwish!Kwish!" Shutting the lid, they went on again. But when they arrived at the settlements and opened the box, it was empty.
So we know that the redbird is the daughter of the Sun. And if the party had kept the box closed, as the Little Men told them to, they could have brought her home safely, and today we would be able to recover our friends from the Ghost Country. Because the seven opened the box, however, we can never bring back people who die.
The Sun had been hopeful when the party had started off for the Darkening Land, but when they came back without her daughter, she wept until her tears caused a great flood. Fearing that the world would be drowned, the people held another council and decided to send their handsomest young men and women to amuse the Sun and stop her crying. This group danced before her and sang their best songs, but for a long time she kept her face bowed and paid no attention. At last when the drummer suddenly changed the song, she looked up and was so pleased at the sight of the beautiful young people that she forgot her grief and smiled.

These Are Some of The Customary and Traditional Events Associated With The Moons
JANUARY: Cold Moon : Unolvtani
This time of the season is a time for personal and ritual observance, fasting and personal purification. During this season, families prepare for the coming of the new seasons, starting in Windy Moon Anuyi or March. Personal items and tools for planting are repaired, and new ones made. Stories about ancestors and the family are imparted to the younger ones by the elders. A mid-Winter or 'Cold Moon Dance' is usually held in the community as well, marking the passing or ending of one cycle of seasons and welcoming the beginning of the new cycle. Hearth fires are put out and new ones made. The putting out of Fires and lighting of new ones anciently is the duty of certain "priest" of certain clans, and coincides with the first new-arrival of the morning star (Sun's daughter, now called Venus) in the east.
FEBRUARY: Bony Moon : Kagali
Traditional time of personal-family feast for the ones who had departed this world. A family meal is prepared with place(s) set for the departed. This is also a time of fasting and ritual observance. A community dance officiated by a 'doctor'( Didanawiskawi) commonly referred to as a Medicine-person. Connected to this moon is the 'Medicine Dance'.
MARCH: Windy Moon : Anuyi
'First New Moon' of the new seasons. Traditional start of the new cycle of planting seasons or Moons. New town council fires are made. The figure used to portray this moon is the historic figure of Kanati, one of the many beings created by the 'Apportioner' (Unethlana). These 'helpers'; were variously charged with the control of the life elements of the earth: air/earth/fire/water. Their domains are the sky, earth, stars and the Seven Levels of the universe.
APRIL: Flower Moon : Kawoni
First plants of the season come out at this time. New births are customary within this time frame. The first new medicine and herb plants that taught mankind how to defend against sickness and conjury come out now. Streams and rivers controlled by the spirit being, 'Long Man', renew their lives. Ritual observances are made to 'Long Man' at this time. A dance customary at this season was the 'Knee Deep Dance' of the Spring or Water Frog.
MAY: Planting Moon : Anisguti
Families traditionally prepare the fields and sow them with the stored seeds from last season. Corn, beans, squashes, tomatoes, potatoes, yams and sunflowers are some food planted at this time. A dance traditionally done at this time is the 'Corn Dance'.
JUNE: Green Corn Moon : Tihaluhiyi
First signs of the 'corn in tassel', and the emerging of the various plants of the fields. People traditionally begin preparations for the upcoming festivals of the ensuing growing season. People of the AniGadugi Society begin repairs needed on town houses, family homes and generally provide for the needy. The AniGadugi Society is a volunteer help group who see to the needs of the less fortunate, the elderly and the infirm of the villages.
JULY: Ripe Corn Moon : Guyegwoni
First foods or the new planting and the roasting ears of corn are ready. Towns begin the cycle festivals. Dances and celebrations of thanks to the Earth Mother and the 'Apportioner' (Unethlana) are given. In the old times this was the traditional time of the 'Green Corn Dance' or festival. A common reference of this moon is the 'first roasting of ears' (of corn)...sweet corn-moon. This is the customary time for commencement of the Stick Ball games traditionally called AniStusti, 'Little War'. Today known as 'LaCross'. Stick Ball dances and festivals are commonly held at this time.
AUGUST: Fruit Moon : Galoni
Foods of the trees and bushes are gathered at this time. The various 'Paint Clans' begin to gather many of the herbs and medicines for which they were historically know. Green Corn festivals are commonly held at this time in the present day. The 'Wild Potato' Clans (AniNudawegi), begin harvesting various foods growing along the streams, marshes, lakes and ponds.
SEPTEMBER: Nut Moon : Duliidsdi
The corn harvest referred to as 'Ripe Corn Festival' was customarily held in the early part of this moon to acknowledge Selu the spirit of the corn. Selu is thought of as First Woman. The festival respects Mother Earth as well for providing all foods during the growing season. The 'Brush Feast Festival' also customarily takes place in this season. All the fruits and nuts of the bushes and trees of the forest were gathered as this time. A wide variety of nuts from the trees went into the nut breads for the various festivals throughout the seasons. Hunting traditionally began in earnest at this time.
OCTOBER: Harvest Moon : Duninudi
Time of traditional 'Harvest Festival' (Nowatequa) when the people give thanks to all the living things of the fields and earth that helped them live, and to the 'Apportioner' (Unethlana). Cheno i-equa or 'Great Moon' Festival is customarily held at this time.
NOVEMBER: Trading Moon : Nudadaequa
Traditionally a time of trading and barter among different towns and tribes for manufactured goods, produce and goods from hunting. The people traded with other nearby tribes as well as distant tribes, including those of Canada, Middle America and South America. Also the customary time of the 'Friendship Festival' (Adohuna= 'new friends made'). This was a time when all transgressions were forgiven, except for murder which traditionally was taken care of according to the law of blood by a clans person of a murdered person. The festival recalls a time before 'world selfishness and greed'. This was a time also when the needy among the towns were given whatever they needed to help them through the impending lean winter season.
DECEMBER: Snow Moon : Usgiyi
The spirit being, 'Snow Man', brings the cold and snow for the earth to cover the high places while the earth rests until the rebirth of the seasons in the Windy Moon (Anuyi. Families traditionally were busy putting up and storing goods for the next cycle of seasons. Elders enjoyed teaching and retelling ancient stories of the people to the young

Life is a Circle
By Black Elk ~ Oglala Sioux ~1863-1950
Everything the power of the world does,
is done in a circle.
The sky is round
and I have heard that the earth
is round like a ball,
and so are all the stars.
The wind in its' greatest power whirls.
Birds make their nests in circles;
for their's is the same religion as ours.
The sun comes forth and
goes down again in a circle.
The moon does the same
and both are round.
Even the seasons form a great circle
in their changing
and always come back
to where they were.
The life of a man is a circle,
from childhood to childhood.
and so it is with everything
where power moves.

The Great Round
Ancient peoples perceived the world as the Great Round. Observing the cycles of the sun and moon, they viewed time as a circle. In fact the ancient Greeks called the changing stars of the sky: "The Circle of Animals", commonly known today as the Zodiac.
In the Great Round, there is the coming of Heroes and the aging of Kings. Cyclical time is endless, offering a moral dimension that linear time lacks. People repeat the cycle at different points and experience the same things from different perspectives.
An outward manifestation of the reverence for circles is sacred places in nature. Circles of stones dot the European and North American landscape. Another manifestation is stories of beings traveling in and out of connecting worlds. Myths of dragons and fairies are actually stories of interactions between various circles of existence.
Circles of Animals
Many cultures saw the passing of time in terms of animals. The Greeks saw animals in the stars. The animal signs of the Zodiac are Ares the Ram and Taurus the Bull of spring, Cancer the Crab and Leo the Lion of the summer, Scorpio the Scorpion of the fall, and Capricorn the Goat and Pisces the Fish of the winter. (These animals feature prominently in Greek and later Roman mythology.)
Native American Medicine Wheel
In the western areas of North America are large stone wheels, formed in prehistory. Called "medicine wheels", they reflect the Native Americans reverence for the Four Directions. Although many Indian Nations have different interpretations of the Medicine Wheels, they do agree that the Four Directions are governed by various animals.

The Ghost Dance comes to a tragic end
The Ghost Dance is often linked to Lakota resistance and the white Americans’ fear of an Indian uprising. On December 29, 1890, thisGhost Dance shirts & dresses
Made of animal hide adorned with fringe and feathers, the paintings decorating a Ghost Dance dress or shirt ranged from the very simple to the complex with elaborate designs that represented their mythology, such as the sun, moon, stars, as well as trance-like visions. This sacred clothing was worn by all believers – man, woman, or child – as an outside garment during the sacred dance, but it was also thought to have been worn at other times under ordinary dress.

Note: For Moon phase information specific to a particular date, see
in Data Services. From any location on the Earth, the Moon appears to be a circular disk which, at any specific time, is illuminated to some degree by direct sunlight. Like the Earth, the Moon is a sphere which is always half illuminated by the Sun, but as the Moon orbits the Earth we get to see more or less of the illuminated half. During each lunar orbit (a lunar month), we see the Moon's appearance change from not visibly illuminated through partially illuminated to fully illuminated, then back through partially illuminated to not illuminated again. Although this cycle is a continuous process, there are eight distinct, traditionally recognized stages, called phases. The phases designate both the degree to which the Moon is illuminated and the geometric appearance of the illuminated part. These phases of the Moon, in the sequence of their occurrence (starting from New Moon), are listed below.
New Moon - The Moon's unilluminated side is facing the Earth. The Moon is not visible (except during a solar eclipse).
Waxing Crescent - The Moon appears to be partly but less than one-half illuminated by direct sunlight. The fraction of the Moon's disk that is illuminated is increasing.
First Quarter - One-half of the Moon appears to be illuminated by direct sunlight. The fraction of the Moon's disk that is illuminated is increasing.
Waxing Gibbous - The Moon appears to be more than one-half but not fully illuminated by direct sunlight. The fraction of the Moon's disk that is illuminated is increasing.
Full Moon - The Moon's illuminated side is facing the Earth. The Moon appears to be completely illuminated by direct sunlight.
Waning Gibbous - The Moon appears to be more than one-half but not fully illuminated by direct sunlight. The fraction of the Moon's disk that is illuminated is decreasing.
Last Quarter - One-half of the Moon appears to be illuminated by direct sunlight. The fraction of the Moon's disk that is illuminated is decreasing.
Waning Crescent - The Moon appears to be partly but less than one-half illuminated by direct sunlight. The fraction of the Moon's disk that is illuminated is decreasing.
Following waning crescent is New Moon, beginning a repetition of the complete phase cycle of 29.5 days average duration. The time in days counted from the time of New Moon is called the Moon's "age". Each complete cycle of phases is called a "lunation".
Because the cycle of the phases is shorter than most calendar months, the phase of the Moon at the very beginning of the month usually repeats at the very end of the month. When there are two Full Moons in a month (which occurs, on average, every 2.7 years), the second one is called a "Blue Moon". See the article "Once in a Blue Moon" for the story of how the usage of this term has evolved (Ref: Philip Hiscock, Sky & Telescope, March 1999, pp. 52-55.).
The first time that the thin waxing crescent Moon is visible after New Moon (low in the evening sky just after sunset) marks the beginning of a month in the Islamic Calendar - see the FAQ Crescent Moon Visibility and the Islamic Calendar.
Although Full Moon occurs each month at a specific date and time, the Moon's disk may appear to be full for several nights in a row if it is clear. This is because the percentage of the Moon's disk that appears illuminated changes very slowly around the time of Full Moon (also around New Moon, but the Moon is not visible at all then). The Moon may appear 100% illuminated only on the night closest to the time of exact Full Moon, but on the night before and night after will appear 97-99% illuminated; most people would not notice the difference. Even two days from Full Moon the Moon's disk is 93-97% illuminated.
New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon, and Last Quarter phases are considered to be primary phases and their dates and times are published in almanacs and on calendars. (Click here for a list.) The two crescent and two gibbous phases are intermediate phases, each of which lasts for about a week between the primary phases, during which time the exact fraction of the Moon's disk that is illuminated gradually changes.
The phases of the Moon are related to (actually, caused by) the relative positions of the Moon and Sun in the sky. For example, New Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon are quite close together in the sky. Full Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon are at nearly opposite positions in the sky - which is why a Full Moon rises about the time of sunset, and sets about the time of sunrise, for most places on Earth. First and Last Quarters occur when the Sun and Moon are about 90 degrees apart in the sky. In fact, the two "half Moon" phases are called First Quarter and Last Quarter because they occur when the Moon is, respectively, one- and three-quarters of the way around the sky (i.e., along its orbit) from New Moon.
The relationship of the Moon's phase to its angular distance in the sky from the Sun allows us to establish very exact definitions of when the primary phases occur, independent of how they appear. Technically, the phases New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon, and Last Quarter are defined to occur when the excess of the apparent ecliptic (celestial) longitude of the Moon over that of the Sun is 0, 90, 180, and 270 degrees, respectively. These definitions are used when the dates and times of the phases are computed for almanacs, calendars, etc. Because the difference between the ecliptic longitudes of the Moon and Sun is a monotonically and rapidly increasing quantity, the dates and times of the phases of the Moon computed this way are instantaneous and well defined.
The percent of the Moon's surface illuminated is a more refined, quantitative description of the Moon's appearance than is the phase. Considering the Moon as a circular disk, the ratio of the area illuminated by direct sunlight to its total area is the fraction of the Moon's surface illuminated; multiplied by 100, it is the percent illuminated. At New Moon the percent illuminated is 0; at First and Last Quarters it is 50%; and at Full Moon it is 100%. During the crescent phases the percent illuminated is between 0 and 50% and during gibbous phases it is between 50% and 100%.
For practical purposes, phases of the Moon and the percent of the Moon illuminated are independent of the location on the Earth from where the Moon is observed. That is, all the phases occur at the same time regardless of the observer's position.
Lunation Movie
If you click on either of the two images on the right, you will see a time-lapse movie of the appearance of the Moon over one lunation. A lunation is a lunar month, during which time the Moon completely circles the Earth in its orbit. The complete cycle of phases is obvious. Two other effects can be easily seen. First, due to the elliptical shape of the Moon's orbit, the apparent size of the Moon's disk changes as its distance from Earth varies (the closest and farthest points do not always occur at the same phases, however). Second, although the Moon's near side directly faces the Earth on average, we get to view the Moon from slightly different angles as it orbits us. This effect, called libration, is caused partly by the tilt of the Moon's rotation axis with respect to its orbital plane and partly by the fact that the Moon's speed in its orbit varies but its rotation rate does not.

Once a month, as the soft, mellow light of the moon waxes in the sky, we recite a special blessing calledKiddush Levanah. Kiddush Levanah can be recited three days after the moon's rebirth—known as the molad. The kabbalah tells us it is best to wait a full week. Once 15 days have passed, the moon begins to wane once more and the season for saying the blessing has passed. The very best time for this blessing is immediately after Shabbat, as we leave the synagogue together dressed in our Shabbat clothes. We're not praising the moon, but its Creator—for His wondrous work we call astronomyHere's the formula: After nightfall, when the moon is fully visible and unobstructed by cloud cover, stand under the open sky and look once at the moon. Then face east and recite the blessing along with a few accompanying prayers. The more people you get to participate, the better—you are, after all, greeting the Divine Presence. If you have a quorum of ten men, kaddish is recited. Of course, we're not praising the moon, but its Creator—for His wondrous work we call astronomy. The moon has the most obvious monthly cycle of all the stars and planets, so we take the occasion of its renewal to make a blessing for the entire masterpiece. Besides, our nation is likened to the moon—as it waxes and wanes, so have we throughout history. So, too, has the Divine Presence (the Shechina)—which explains why the moon represents that, as well. So blessing the moon on its reappearance is a way of renewing our trust that the light of G‑d's presence will soon fill all the earth and our people will be redeemed from exile, very soon in our time. Which is why the blessing is concluded with songs and dancing in celebration and joy. | |||

Sharing Relatives with you,The new moon "July 18, 2012 10:24PM" [New Moon - The Moon's unilluminated side is facing the Earth. The Moon is not visible (except during a solar eclipse), is celebrated around the world. Now let us to give meaning to what we already understand. We celebrate the Ghost Walking soon, this month July which now a time that coincides with Tamuz, July 8 (fasting one week to prepare and cleanse the holy temple, you).Understanding heaven and our soul is not always easy, when we aren't willing to stop and listen to others. The true blue ring of sound waves hit us from all directions whether we like them or not, however dealing with our feelings upon our heart is not an easy path, during an entire evolutionary period of time we are departing soon. The Ghost Walk helps us to understand our inner vibrancy, the spokes, each a part of a whole circle. Blue rings radiate out from our center like waves affecting everyone around us. Learning to deal with their pain, their heartache, their misgivings, means we must show them how it's done, how to deal with the heart, the soul, the song of heaven that leads us along towards unity with our rainbow colors, the four sacred directions, we call our physical form (holy temple) and the garden of paradise, we all Mother Earth. When we dance with our soul (trance dance), we offer our pure essence (spirit) to drive and direct our walking or dancing. We dance to allow the smoke to rise up, the Ghost of your soul walking and joining with the spiritual universe, we call heaven, the unseen world of all things or feminine principle. Woman and all her glory now return to the status as reigning over heavenly virtues stemming from our hearts, to dew better and act kinder, to love each other. We celebrate the Molad (hebrew word) or the birthing of our inner light (four more directions inside, making a total of eight directions, representing the holy being a person is "divine", where pure love shines divine), what Christians often refer to as being "born again". Native American's show respect to the holy eagle, because "HOLINESS" (eight directions) lives in all of us, when we pour out love from our hearts.Molad (plural Moladot) is a Hebrew word meaning "birth" (lavender or holiness our children of the rainbow gift birth to the physical molecules of fire or color) that also generically refers to the time at which the New Moon is "born" (within the dark, the light is born, alightfromwithin). The word is ambiguous, however, because depending on the context it could refer to the actual or mean astronomical lunar conjunction (calculated by a specified method, for a specified time zone), or the molad of the traditional Hebrew calendar (or another specified calendar), or at a specified locale the first visibility of the new lunar crescent after a lunar conjunction.
Below Aron Kodesh ("Holy Ark", the synagogue or house of worship) shares the Rainbow Clan. Four directions offers us the "Holy Ark", sailing with our souls, when our moon's tears (joy or sadness) and our sun's colors blend to rise up the "Spirit that Flies Free", when the smoke rises and the dances geysers, the "Holy Ghost is Walking".This is about the loss of the holy temple (destroyed by the world, outer light, colors) and we are rebuilding the holy temple (created by heaven, inner song/echo, sound), the four directions in rainbow colors, of the Rainbow Clan, the temple that houses our soul journey. We celebrate the Ghost walking or Holy Spirit rebirthing around the darkness of heavenly virtues from our hearts and our women. This 3 week grieving is really about our evolutionary transition from a broken temple to a rebuilding of a new temple. We find our holy spirit and we rebuild the temple. This is the true place where golden is paved in brotherhood, the yellow rolling hill in time, the third phase of evolution. Sanctification of The Moon
The Sanctification of the Moon [Kiddush Levanah] should not be confused with Sanhedrin'sSanctification of the Moon, by which the court pronounced the appropriate day as the beginning of a new month. That proclamation was the sole province of the court and affected the calendar; the Sanctification of the Moon — not the month — has no calendrical siginificance.
There are two bases for this ritual. Rabbi Yochanan taught that one who blesses the new moon in its proper time is regarded like one who greets the Shechinah [God's Presence] (Sanhedrin 42a). This is because the only way we can recognize the existence of God is through His miracles and revelations to Israel. In nature it is seen through the orderly functioning of the enormously complex heavenly bodies. We may note that as science unfolds more and more of the vastness of the universe, the presence of Creator becomes more and more obvious to one who wishes to see; indeed, to deny Him is ludicrous. This phenomenon is most apparent in the cycles of the moon, because its changes are more visible than those of any other body. Thus, when we greet the moon, we greet its Maker and Guide (Rabbeinu Yohah, Berachos 4).The second aspect of the prayer is its sgnificance for the history of Israel. Just as the moon is reborn after a period of decline and total disappearance, so too, Israel's decline will end and its light will once again blaze to fullness. As an example, the Midrash (Shemos Rabbah 15) states that when Israel is worthy of God's favor it is like the waxing moon, but when it is not worthy, it is like the declining moon. In this vein, ancient Israel's rise and fall paralleled the phases of the moon. There were fifteen generations from Abraham to Solomon, during which Israel rose to the zenith of its greatness. The decline began during Solomon's reign; there were fifteen generations from then (including Solomon) to the reign of Zedekiah, when the First Temple was destroyed. This corresponds to the twenty-nine-day lunar cycle.
Because the moon is such a significant allusion to God as the Creator and to Isreal's rebirth,Kiddush Levanah should be recited joyously, preferable at the conclusion of the Sabbath when people are still dressed in their finest clothes. Conversely, it is not recited on Sabbath or festival (exept under unusual circumstances), because we do not set two different causes for joy in competition with one another (World of Prayer). It is also customary to defer Kiddush Levanah until after Tishah B'Av and Yom Kippur because the sadness of Av and the dread of the Days of Judgment are inappropriate to the joy required during Kiddush Levanah.
Blessed is your Molder. The initials of these four titles of God spell Jacob. Just as the moon is called the small luminary (Genesis1:16), in relation to the sun, so Jacob was called her younger [lit.smaller] son (Genesis 27:15,42), because he was the younger of Rebecca's two sons. This verse alludes to Isaiah 43:1 (as explained by Vayikra Rabbah 36) which teaches that God created the universe for the sake of Jacob and his offspring (Sh'lah).
This verse and the following ones are repeated three times to give special emphasis to their message.
Just as I dance. Often in Scripture, a prophecy is accompanied by a physical act. This has the effect of making the prophecy irreversible. Here, too, we, in a symbolic way, exert ourselves to touch the moon while remaining on earth, and we pray that, in like fashion, the exertions of our enemies against us will be of no avail. Thus, we reinforce the point by a physical act (Dover Shalom).
Let fall upon them. This verse, taken from the Song at the Sea (Exodus 15:16), follows naturally from the previous one. Having said that out foes will be unable to harm us, we now declare that they will be terror striken.
David, King of Israel. As noted above, the phases of the moon allude to the Davidic dynasty. Thus, we include this confident expression of faith that David's reign endures and will shine again. This verse was composed by Rabbi Yehudah HaNassi (Rosh Chodesh25a).
Peace upon you. This greeting is included for various reasons:
— Having greeted theShechinah, we joyously wish the blessing of peace upon one another (Levush).
— After cursing our enemies, we make clear that we wish no ill to our brethren (Mateh Moshe).
— At the beginning of creation, as recorded in the Talmud (Chullin60b), the sun and moon were of equal size. When the moon complained that two kings cannot wear the same crown, i.e., it should be larger than the sun, the moon was made smaller. Nevertheless, the sun continues to shine its brilliant light upon the moon, thus providing lesson to man not to harbor a grudge against others who have wronged him. We express this resolve by wishing peace upon our fellow Jews (Anaf Yosef).
The voice of my beloved. The inclusion of these two verses is based on the Yalkut which interprets them as an allusion to the Messiah.
When the Messiah [i.e., my beloved (beloved child of the rainbow clan, you my savior)] announces the month of the redemption, Israel will protest disbelievingly that there are so many obstacles in his path. The Messiah (rainbow warriors of prophecy) will reply that he will hurdle all the barriers like a gazelle leaping over mountains (Twin Deer Mother is hear, eldest sun of the rainbow clan, the crystal child walking talking House of David has come home rejoice, rejoice, hallelujah). He goes on to say that God was never oblivious to our plight — though we felt abandoned, God was standing (following the children) ... observed ... and peering to see our needs and plan for our salvation. (now we can hear heavenly spirits and dance in the sea of the true blue, relatives of me and you, the rainbow clan has come home, the arc of the covenant has kissed her promise)
« SANCTIFICATION OF THE MOON / KIDDUSH LEVANAH »
Psalms 148:1-6
Halleluyah! Prise HASHEM from the Heavens; praise Him in the heights. Praise Him, all His angels; praise Him, all His legions. Praise Him, sun and moon; praise Him, all bright stars. Praise Him, the most exalled of the heavens and the waters that are above the heavens. Let them praise the Name of HASHEM, for He commanded and they were created. And He established them forever and ever, He issued a decree that will not change.
Behold I am prepared and ready to perform the commandment to sanctify the moon. For the sake of the unification of the Holy One, Blessed is He, and His Presence, through Him Who is hidden and inscrutable — [I pray] in the name pf all Israel. One should look at the moon before reciting this blessing:
Blessed are you, HASHEM, our God, King of the Universe, Who with His utterance created heavens, and with the breath of His mouth all their legion. A decree and a schedule did He give them that they not alter their assigned task. They are joyous and glad to perform the will of their Owner — the Worker of truth Whose work is truth. To the moon He said that it should renew itself as a crown of splendor for those borne [by Him] from the womb, those who are destined to renew themselves like it, and to glorify their Molder for the name of His glorious kingdom. Blessed are you, HASHEM, Who renews the months.
Recite three times:
Blessed is your Molder;* blessed is your Maker; blessed is your Owner; blessed is your Creator.
Recite three times. Rise on the toes as if in dance:
Just as I dance* toward you but cannot touch you, so may none of my enemies be able to touch me for evil.
Recite three times:
Let fall upon them* fear and terror; at the greatness of Your arm, let them be still as stone.1
Recite three times:
As stone let them be still, at Your arm's greatness; terror and fear, upon them let fall.
Recite three times:
David, King of Israel,* is alive and enduring.
Extend greetings three times:
Peace upon you.*
The person who was greeted responds:
Upon you, peace.
Recite three times:
May there be a good sign and a good fortune for us and for all Israel. Amen.
The voice of my beloved* — Behold! It came suddenly, leaping over mountains, skipping over hills. My beloved is like a gazelle or a young hart. Behold! He was standing behind our wall, observing through the windows, peering through the lattices.2
(1) Exodus 15:16. (2) Song of Songs 2:8-9.
Psalm 121
A song to the ascents. I raise my eyes to the mountains; whence will come my help? My help is from HASHEM, Maker of heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to falter; your Guardian will not slumber. Behold, He neither slumbers nor sleeps — the Guardian of Israel. HASHEM is your Guardian; HASHEM is your Shade at your right hand. By day the sun will not harm you, nor the moon by night. HASHEM will guard your departure and your arrival, from this time and forever.
Psalm 150
Halleluyah! Praise God in His Sanctuary; praise Him in the firmament of His power. Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him as befits His abundant greatness. Praise Him with the blast of the shofar; praise Him with lyre and harp. Praise Him with drum and dance; praise Him with organ and flute. Praise Him with clanging cymbals; praise Him with resonant trumpets. Let all souls praise God, Halleluyah!
The Academy of Rabbi Yishmael taught: Had Israel not been privileged to greet countenance of their Father in Heaven except for once a month — it would have sufficed them. Abaye said: Therefore one must recite it while standing.
Who is this who rises from the desert clinging to her Beloved! 1May it be Your will HASHEM, my God and the God of my forefathers, to fill the flaw of the moon that there be no diminution in it. May the light of the moon be like the light of the sun and like the light of the seven days of Creation,2 as it was before it was diminished, as it is said: "The two great luminaries." 3And may there be fulfilled upon us the verse that is written: "They shall seek HASHEM, their God, and David, their king." 4 Amen.
Psalm 67
For the Conductor, upon Neginos, a psalm, a song. May God favor us and bless us, may He illuminate His countenance with us, Selah. To make known Your way on earth, among all the nations Your salvation. The peoples will aknowledge You, O God, the peoples will aknowledge You, all of them. Nations will be glad and sing for joy, because You will judge the peoples fairly and guide the nations on earth, Selah. Then peoples will aknowledge You, O God, the peoples will aknowledge You, all of them. The earth has yielded its produce, may God, our own God, bless us. May God bless us and may all the ends of the earth fear Him.
In most congregations Aleinu, followed by
the Mourner's Kaddish, is repeated at this point.

Laws of Kiddush Levanah
It is preferable that Kiddush Levanah be recited: (a) under open sky; (b) with a minyan; (c) at the departure of the Sabbath. When these optimal conditions are not feasible, they may be waived (e.g., a shut-in may recite Kiddush Levanahindoors if he can see the moon through a window or door; one who cannot form minyan; the sky is cloudy at the departure of the Sabbath).
The earliest time for reciting Kiddush Levanah is seventy-two hours after the molad (new moon), although some authorities would delay its recitation until seven full days after the molad.
The latest time for Kiddush Levanah is mid-month, i.e., fourteen days, eighteen hours and twenty-two minutes (some authorities extend this limit to fifteen full days) after the molad.
Kiddush Levanah should not be recited on a Sabbath or a Festival unless it is the last remaining night before the mid-month deadline.
If one cannot recite Kiddush Levanah with a minyan he should try to do so in the presence of at least three others with whom to exchange the Shalom Aleichem greeting. If this too, is not possible, one may recite Kiddush Levanah by himself. During Tishrei, Kiddush Levanah is generally postponed until after Yom Kipur; during Av, until after Tishah B'Av.

Friends
5 Who is this coming up from the wilderness
leaning on her beloved?(love comes riding in, when we eliminate sin, rainbow warriors of prophecy in the winds, walking towards, leaning on our brothers and sisters, each a child running wild, learning to tame the inner child, yet free with smiles)
She
Under the apple tree I roused you;
(all apple seed produce embryotic produce, all apples today are created from the stemming or branching rather than from the embryo. From birthing from the embryo, a child is born.)
there your mother conceived you,(received you, held you, literally, the rainbow mother holds the struts to the crystalline stone river stream, she dreamed you, she bows for you)
there she who was in labor gave you birth.(she endured with her love for you, the child of the rainbow clan)
6 Place me like a seal over your heart,(a soul's spirit watching over)
like a seal on your arm;
(give me strength to endure)
for love is as strong as death
(purification, dust to dust, rebirthing to continue on the journey, instead of continuing the same lesson over and over, blessings purify and return a lost soul)
its jealousy[a] unyielding as the grave.
It burns like blazing fire,
like a mighty flame.[b]
7 Many waters cannot quench love;
rivers cannot sweep it away.
If one were to give
all the wealth of one’s house for love,
it[c] would be utterly scorned.Friends
8 We have a little sister,
and her breasts are not yet grown. (she has not climbed the mountain yet, she has not endured the hardships of true love, yet she yearns for the perfect unity of heaven on earth, she will show us paradise, love like a child)
What shall we do for our sister
on the day she is spoken for? (we will stand by her and help her and guide her, we will cherish her, for she will show us our true paradise or if we need to clean it up, mirror to the rainbow colors of paradise, the red road)
9 If she is a wall,
we will build towers of silver on her.
If she is a door,
we will enclose her with panels of cedar. She
10 I am a wall,
and my breasts are like towers.
Thus I have become in his eyes
like one bringing contentment.
11 Solomon had a vineyard in Baal Hamon;
he let out his vineyard to tenants.
Each was to bring for its fruit
a thousand shekels[d] of silver.
12 But my own vineyard is mine to give;
the thousand shekels are for you, Solomon,
and two hundred[e] are for those who tend its fruit. He
13 You who dwell in the gardens
with friends in attendance,
let me hear your voice!She

and be like a gazelle
or like a young stag
on the spice-laden mountains.Footnotes:

Shiva (Judaism)
"Tears feeding the roots of the rainbow clan, returning to heavenly virtues", says Twin Deer Mother.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaShiva (Hebrew: שבעה) (literally "seven") is the week-long mourning period in Judaism for first-degree relatives: father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, and spouse. The ritual is referred to as "sitting shiva." Immediately after burial, first-degree relatives assume thehalakhic status of "avel" (Hebrew: אבל ; "mourner"). This state lasts for seven days, during which family members traditionally gather in one home (preferably the home of the deceased) and receive visitors. At the funeral, mourners traditionally rend an outer garment, a ritual known as keriah. This garment is worn throughout shiva.
Etymology: The word Shiva comes from the Hebrew word shi’vah, which literally means "seven". The tradition was developed in response to the Old Testament Genesis 50:1-14 from Genesis in which Joseph mourns the death of his father Jacob (Israel) for seven days.
[edit]Length of shiva
The Hebrew word "shiva" means "seven", and the official shiva period is seven days. The day of the funeral is counted as the first day of shiva, even though the practice does not begin until after the mourner(s) arrive at the designated location following the funeral. On day seven, shiva generally ends in the morning, following services, and the mourners are walked around the block by the community. This practice is based on two verses from the Book of Isaiah[citation needed]. On Shabbat during the week of shiva, no formal mourning takes place, but the day is counted as one of the seven. Sometimes, a minyan with a Torah reading will take place at the mourner's house.
If the first day of a Yom Tov (holy days which includes Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Passover, and Shavuot) occurs during shiva, the shiva ends, regardless of the number of days that have already been observed. Even if a Yom Tov begins at nightfall on the day of the funeral, the remainder of shiva is cancelled.
If the death occurs during Yom Tov, shiva does not begin until the burial is completed. Burial may not take place on Yom Tov, but can on Chol HaMoed (the intermediate days of Sukkot or Passover). Burial can also take place on the second day of Yom Tov in theDiaspora. In addition, it is also permitted to delegate the burial to gentiles even on the first day, though such is not usually done.
If a burial occurs on Chol HaMoed, shiva begins before is completed. In the Diaspora, where most Yom Tovim are observed for two days, mourning does not take place on the second day, but the day is still counted as one of the days of shiva.
[edit]Shiva customs
Traditionally, the first meal after the funeral, the seudat havra'ah (Hebrew: סעודת הבראה ; "meal of comforting"), is supplied by neighbors and friends.[1] The mourners do not bathe or shower for pleasure,[2] they do not wear leather shoes or jewelry, men do not shave, and in many communities household mirrors are covered. The prohibition of bathing includes bathing or showering the whole body, or using hot water.[3] It is permitted to wash separately various parts of the body in cool water.[3] Marital relations[4] and Torah study[5] are not permitted. (It is permitted to study the laws of mourning, as well as that material which may be studied on Tisha B'Av, including Job,Lamentations, portions of Jeremiah and the third chapter of Talmud tractate Moed Katan.[6]) No public[7] mourning may occur on Shabbat, nor may the burial take place on Shabbat; "private" mourning restrictions continue during the Shabbat. It is customary for the mourners to sit on low stools, or even the floor, symbolic of the emotional reality of being "brought low" by the grief. Typically, mourners do not return to work until the end of the week of mourning.
Many communities have an arrangement where members of the chevra kadisha (local Jewish burial society) organise the meals for the mourners, and serve refreshments for visitors. If prayer services are organized in the house of mourning, it is customary for an adult mourner to lead the prayers.
[edit]Visiting a shiva home
It is considered a great mitzvah (literally "commandment" but usually interpreted as "good deed") of kindness and compassion to pay a home visit (make or pay a shiva call) to the mourners, a practice known as Nichum Aveilim. Traditionally, no greetings are exchanged and visitors wait for the mourners to initiate conversation, or remain silent if the mourners do not do so, out of respect for their bereavement. Once engaged in conversation by the mourners, it is appropriate for visitors to talk about the deceased, sharing stories of his or her life. Some mourners use the shiva as a distraction from their loss, other mourners prefer to openly experience their grief together with friends and family.
Upon leaving an Ashkenazic shiva house, visitors recite a traditional blessing: "May God comfort you among the other mourners of Zion and Jerusalem" (המקום ינחם אתכם בתוך שאר אבלי ציון וירושלים, transliterated HaMakom yenachem etchem betoch sha'ar aveylei Tziyon viYerushalayim). At a Sephardic shiva house, visitors say: "May Heaven comfort you" (מן השמים תנוחמו - min haShamayim tenuchamu).
It is considered a mitzvah for visitors to bring prepared food for the mourners. The mourner is not allowed to serve food to the visitors and it is family and friends who take care of the guests and everyday issues.
[edit]Shiva minyan
During shiva, a minyan (a quorum of ten or more adult male Jews) traditionally gather at the shiva home for services. The services held are like those at a synagogue, except that certain prayers or verses are either added or omitted. On days that the Torah is read in a synagogue, it is likewise read at the shiva home. An effort is made by the community to lend a Torah scroll to the mourner for this purpose. Kaddish is recited during the services; the mourner, if eligible, may recite kaddish.
[edit]Other practices
Among Sephardic Jews food is served to the visitors and it is considered a mitzvah to make a blessing on the food in the merit of the deceased. Sephardim believe that every beracha (blessing) said elevates the neshama, (soul) of the deceased. Therefore, one should eat a variety of foods to be able to say more than one beracha. In an Ashkenazic home of mourning, food is not served except for the possibility of a light breakfast as a courtesy to those attending Shaharit (morning prayer) since they generally go straight to work after the service.[8]
[edit]Keriah
The torn garment, usually a shirt, jacket or vest that "covers the heart," is worn throughout the shiva period (a practice known as"keriah"; alternative spellings "keriyah", "kria"), except on Shabbat. Conservative and Reform Jews will usually wear a torn piece of black ribbon instead of a torn garment.
[edit]Leaving the shiva house
Leaving the shiva house is permitted when traveling between two locations where shiva is being observed by different members of the family, in cases of pikuach nefesh, i.e., a human life is in danger, whether that of the mourner or someone else; when something must be done to prevent another person from suffering and no one else can do it, such as caring for a child or an elderly or sick person; to feed or care for one's animals if there is no one else to do so; if another relative for whom the mourner is required to sit shiva dies, the mourner may attend the funeral. Leaving the house is also permitted on Shabbat.
Generally, one does not work or conduct business during shiva, although an exception may be made for those whose duties involve pikuach nefesh (doctors, nurses and emergency medical technicians). The same is true for mourners who are liable to suffer serious economic loss. If a mourner shares a business with a partner, and the partner can operate the business alone, the partner shall run the business. The partner is entitled to keep all profits made during the time, but if the partner does not exert additional effort, and the mourner will suffer economic loss, the partner is encouraged to donate the profits to the mourner, considering it tzedaka. A mourner may do the minimal amount of work necessary in order to assure the survival of a business, or if his position is important in meeting the needs of the public and no substitute can be found. This includes elected officials whose work is necessary for the citizens. During the shiva period, the mourner is permitted to give instructions on how to handle business in his absence.
[edit]Delayed/withheld notification of death
In the event that due to circumstances that prevent communication, one cannot be notified of a close relative's death in a timely manner, and then one learns of a relative's death following burial, Shiva starts on the day of notification, and ends when other relatives finish Shiva. No make-up days are required.
If one learns of a relative's death more than a week following burial, s/he shall sit Shiva starting on the day of notification, if the shloshim period has not elapsed. Shiva shall be a seven-day period, unless the shloshim period ends during this time, or a Yom Tov begins.
If the shloshim period has elapsed, Shiva is not observed. But if the deceased relative is a parent, the recitation of kaddish and yearlong restrictions are in effect.
If one cannot be notified of a relative's death due to mental health deficiencies that make it impossible to comprehend the loss or physical illness that may be severely aggravated by hearing the news, notification is withheld, and the person does not sit shiva.

A Sefer Torah (Hebrew: ספר תורה; plural: ספרי תורה Sifrei Torah ; "Book(s) of Torah" or "Torah scroll(s)") is a handwritten copy of the Torah or Pentateuch, the holiest book within Judaism. It must meet extremely strict standards of production. The Torah scroll is mainly used in the ritual of Torah reading during Jewish services. At other times, it is stored in the holiest spot within a synagogue, the Aron Kodesh ("Holy Ark"), which is usually an ornate curtained-off cabinet or section of the synagogue built along the wall that most closely facesJerusalem, the direction Jews face when praying.
The text of the Torah is also commonly printed and bound in book form for non-ritual functions. Then it is known as a Chumash ("five-part", for the five books of Moses), and is often accompanied by commentaries or translations.
Usage
Torah reading from a sefer Torah is traditionally reserved for Monday and Thursday mornings, as well as for Shabbat and Jewish holidays. The presence of a minyan is required for the reading of the Torah to be held in public during the course of the worship services. As the Torah is sung, following the often dense text is aided by a yad ("hand"), a metal or wooden hand-shaped pointer that protects the scrolls by avoiding unnecessary contact of the skin with the parchment.
[edit]Production
According to Jewish law, a sefer Torah (plural: Sifrei Torah) is a copy of the formal Hebrew text of the Five Books of Moses hand-written on gevil or klaf (forms of parchment) (see below) by using a quill (or other permitted writing utensil) dipped in ink. Producing a sefer Torahfulfills one of the 613 mitzvot (Judaism’s commandments).
“The k'laf/parchment on which the Torah scroll is written, the hair or sinew with which the panels of parchment are sewn together, and the quill pen with which the text is written all must come from ritually clean —that is, kosher— animals.”[1]
Written entirely in Hebrew, a sefer Torah contains 304,805 letters, all of which must be duplicated precisely by a trained sofer (“scribe”), an effort which may take as long as approximately one and a half years. An error during transcription may render the sefer Torahpasul (“invalid”). According to the Talmud (the oral law of the Jewish People), all scrolls must also be written on gevil parchment that is treated with salt, flour and m'afatsim (a residual of wasp enzyme and tree bark)[clarification needed] in order to be valid. Scrolls not processed in this way are considered invalid (Hilkoth Tefillin 1:8 & 1:14, Maimonides). In addition, theTalmud (in tractate Bava Batra 14b & Gitten 54b) states that Moses used gevil for the Torah scroll he placed into the Holy Ark.
The calfskin or parchment on which the sacred Hebrew text is written is mounted into a wooden housing called עץ חיים (Tree of Life) in Hebrew. The housing has two rollers, each of which has two handles used for scrolling the text, four handles in all. Between the handles and the rollers are round plates or disks which are carved with images of holy places, engraved with dedications to the donor's parents or other loved ones, and decorated with gold or silver.
Most modern Sifrei Torah are written with forty-two lines of text per column (Yemenite Jews use fifty). Very strict rules about the position and appearance of the Hebrew letters are observed. See for example the Mishna Berura on the subject.[2] Any of several Hebrew scripts may be used, most of which are fairly ornate and exacting. The fidelity of the Hebrew text of the Tanakh, and the Torah in particular, is considered paramount, down to the last letter: translations or transcriptions are frowned upon for formal service use, and transcribing is done with painstaking care.
Some errors are inevitable in the course of production. If the error involves a word other than the name of God, the mistaken letter may be obliterated from the scroll by scraping the letter off the scroll with a sharp object. If the name of God is written in error, the entire page must be cut from the scroll and a new page added, and the page written anew from the beginning. The new page is sewn into the scroll to maintain continuity of the document. The old page is treated with appropriate respect, and is buried with respect rather than being otherwise destroyed or discarded.
The completion of the sefer Torah is a cause for great celebration, and honored guests of the individual who commissioned the Torah are invited to a celebration wherein each of the honored guests is given the opportunity to write one of the final letters. It is a great honor to be chosen for this.
It is a mitzvah for every Jewish male to either write or have written for him a Sefer Torah. In the Torah's 613 Mitzvot (commandments) the 613th[3] is that every Jewish male should write a Sefer Torah in their lifetime.(Deut. 31:19)
In modern times, it is usual for some scholars to become sofers, or trained scribes, and to be paid to complete a Sefer Torah under contract on behalf of a community or by individuals to mark a special occasion or commemoration. Because of the work involved, these can cost tens of thousands of dollars to produce to ritually proper standards.
A printed version of the Torah is known as a Chumash (plural Chumashim). They are treated as respected texts, but not anywhere near the level of sacredness accorded a Sefer Torah, which is often a major possession of a Jewish community. A chumash contains the Torah and other writings, usually organised for liturgical use, and sometimes accompanied by some of the main classic commentary.

The Prophecy Shall Come True
The Talmud, on the last page of the Makkot tractate (24b) relates a story about Rabban Gamliel, Rabbi Elazar ben Azariah, Rabbi Yehoshua, and Rabbi Akiva who were on their way up to Jerusalem.
Upon approaching the Temple Mount, the rabbis saw a fox emerging from the location of the Holy of Holies. Rabban Gamliel, Rabbi Elazar ben Azariah and Rabbi Yehoshua began to cry, Rabbi Akiva began to laugh.
"How can you laugh?" the three rabbis asked in horror. "How can you cry?" Rabbi Akiva answered.
"The place that decries a death penalty on any stranger who comes near it (the Holy of Holies in the Temple) now has foxes prowling it - how could we not cry?" exclaimed the three.
"That's exactly why I'm laughing!" Rabbi Akiva said.
"All the time that I had not seen Uriah's prophecy of destruction (Micha 3:12) come true, I was afraid that the redemptive prophecy of Zacharia "old men and woman shall yet again dwell in the streets of Jerusalem...and the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in its streets" (Zacharia 8:4) would not be fulfilled.
"You are right Akiva. You are right and you have consoled us," answered the rabbis twice..http://www.ou.org/yerushalayim/threeweeks/akiva.html
Relatives, the Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Akiva is "protect, shelter", my brother or sister, my relative of the rainbow clan, the true blue of the heavenly virtues, says Twin Deer Mother your akicita (law bringer, akicita itaca (ah-kee-chee-dah ee-dahn-chahn) general (military), the protector and offering of shelter, what many call the spiritual warrior, a holy spirit), protection is the law, the law is LOVE. Akiva a Hebrew word and akicita a Sioux word meanings are both: protectors and law bringers, as we are the rainbow warriors of prophecy who carry the arc of the covenant (mathematical proof -perfection), because the path, the ark the boat/ship sails over the rainbow waves and our telepathy travels over light waves (rainbow colors), these light waves are part of each relative of the rainbow clan, understanding our relationship with the world, helps us to understand our part of the whole circle, the Rainbow Clan."Feeding the heavenly darkness (song waves) with our tears" says Twin Deer Mother, "Joy or Suffering for the rebirthing" (turn joy into the rebirthing of the holy spirit). Around us we need a RETURNING what many call "tushuva" or dry cleaning of the soul, often referred to as repentance in Judaism, really just a returning to the circle of the heavenly rings, by taking counsel with the clan, the Rainbow Clan, our relatives of this world (crib and Mother Earth who keeps us safe). Teshuva (Hebrew: תשובה, literally "return" -the star child-. We bow to Grandfathers (white/star child, a rainbow color of the rainbow clan), who shine the light for us and lead the way with loving grace, the smile they put upon our face, pure love lights the waves. On the first Shabbat of the Three Weeks (or on the 17th of Tammuz itself, if it falls on Shabbat) we almost always read the Torah portion of Pinchas. The end of the reading discusses the three Jewish festivals. It has been said amongst chassidim that this alludes to the idea that the three Shabbats of the Three Weeks are to be celebrated on par with the three festivals...
The Ninth of Av (Tisha B'Av, the Fast of the Ninth of Av, fifth month of the Jewish Year, is a day of mourning to commemorate the many tragedies that have befallen the Jewish people, many of which coincidentally have occurred on the ninth of Av.Tisha B'Av means "the ninth (day) of Av." It usually occurs during August.), say our sages, is not only the day of the Temple's destruction--it is also the birthday of Moshiach.May we soon merit the fulfillment of the prophecy: "I will turn their mourning into joy and will comfort them and make them rejoice from their sorrow" (Jeremiah 31:12).
Tammuz 17 Tammuz 16, 5772 · July 6, 2012 Fast DayTammuz 17 this year is on Sunday, July 8, 2012.
The fast of the 17th of the Hebrew month of Tammuz, known as Shiva Asar B'Tammuz, is the start of a three-week mourning period for the destruction of Jerusalem and the two Holy Temples.
The fast actually commemorates five tragic events that occurred on this date:
- Moses broke the tablets when he saw the Jewish people worshipping the Golden Calf.
- During the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem, the Jews were forced to cease offering the daily sacrifices due to the lack of sheep.
- Apostomos burned the holy Torah.
- An idol was placed in the Holy Temple.
- The walls of Jerusalem were breached by the Romans, in 69 CE, after a lengthy siege. (Three weeks later, after the Jews put up a valiant struggle, the Romans destroyed the second Holy Temple on the 9th of Av.)
The Jerusalem Talmud maintains that this is also the date when the Babylonians breached the walls of Jerusalem on their way to destroying the first Temple.Practically speaking:
- Healthy adults-bar- or bat-mitzvah age and older-abstain from eating or drinking between dawn and nightfall. Click here for exact times in your location.
- Pregnant and nursing women may not have to fast. Someone who is ill should consult with a rabbi. Even those exempt from fasting, such as ill people or children, shouldn't indulge in delicacies or sweets.
- It is permitted to wake up early before the fast begins and eat, provided that prior to going to sleep one had in mind to do so.
- During the morning prayers we recite selichot (penitential prayers), printed in the back of the prayer book. The "long Avinu Malkeinu" is recited during the morning and afternoon prayers.
- The Torah is read during the morning and afternoon prayers. The reading-the same for both morning and afternoon-is Exodus Exodus 32:11-14 and 34:1-10, which discusses the aftermath of the Golden Calf incident, how Moses successfully interceded on the Israelites' behalf and attained forgiveness for their sin. After the afternoon Torah reading, the special fast-day haftarah, Isaiah 55:6-56:8, is read.
- During the Amidah prayer of the afternoon service (Minchah), those who are fasting add the paragraph Aneinu in the Shema Koleinu blessing. (It is also added in the cantor's repetition of the Amidah both in the morning and afternoon services, as its own blessing between the blessings of Re'eh and Refa'einu. Additionally, the priestly blessing is also added in the repetition of the Amidah in the afternoon service.
- If the 17th of Tammuz falls on Shabbat, the fast is postponed until Sunday. Click here http://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/144573/jewish/Three-Weeks.htm for more about this Shabbat. (below attached)
Abstaining from food and drink is the external element of a fast day. On a deeper level, a fast day is an auspicious day, a day when G‑d is accessible, waiting for us to repent.
The sages explain: "Every generation for which the Temple is not rebuilt, it is as though the Temple was destroyed for that generation." A fast day is not only a sad day, but an opportune day. It's a day when we are empowered to fix the cause of that destruction, so that our long exile will be ended and we will find ourselves living in messianic times-may that be very soon.

13 Comments Three Weeks Laws and Customs
A 21 Day Period of National MourningFor eight hundred and thirty years there stood an edifice upon a Jerusalem hilltop which served as the point of contact between heaven and earth. So central was this edifice to the relationship between man and G-d that nearly two-thirds of themitzvot are contingent upon its existence. Its destruction is regarded as the greatest tragedy of our history, and its rebuilding will mark the ultimate redemption-the restoration of harmony within G-d's creation and between G-d and His creation.
A full three weeks of our year--the three weeks "between the strictures"1 of Tammuz 17 and Av 9--are designated as a time of mourning over the destruction of the Holy Temple and the resultant galut--physical exile and spiritual displacement--in which we still find ourselves.
In this period, many calamities befell the Jewish people throughout the generations. It was during this period of between the straits that both the first and second Temples were destroyed.
During this period, we lessen the extent of our rejoicing. We don't:
- Conduct weddings. (Engagement parties – without music – are allowed until Rosh Chodesh Av.)
- Play musical instruments or listen to music.
- Recite the Shehecheyanu blessing. Thus, we do not wear new clothing or eat fruit which we have not yet eaten this season so that we will not be required to recite Shehecheyanu.
- Take a haircut or shave. Many Sephardic communities permit haircuts and shaving until the week of Tisha b'Av (in other words, until the Saturday night before the fast).
(Speak to your rabbi if there are extenuating circumstances that prevent you from observing any of the above customs.)
Shabbat
All the laws of mourning are suspended on ShabbatAll the laws of mourning are suspended on Shabbat.2 This includes the 17th of Tammuzand the 9th of Av3 themselves—when they fall on Shabbat, the fast days are postponed until Sunday, and the Shabbat is joyously celebrated. The Rebbe stated on numerous occasions that on these Shabbats we must increase our joy, and add an extra tasty dish to our meals, to emphasize that we are not in a state of mourning.
Why is all mourning suspended on Shabbat?
Though these days and weeks heralded an exile rife with persecution and spiritual estrangement, it is our belief that ultimately this is for the good. Very soon, with the coming of Moshiach, we will understand that all the suffering was necessary in order to reach the ultimate good. At that time, the prophets foretell, these sorrowful days will be transformed into days of joy (see Breaking Walls for more on this topic).
Every Shabbat constitutes a foretaste of the Messianic Era. As such, on Shabbat we only focus on the positive element of this period.
Determination to Rebuild
Aside for the aforementioned "technical" rules and restrictions, during this period we spend extra time contemplating the less-than-perfect state the world is in now and what we can do to improve it by increasing in deeds of goodness and kindness.
The Rebbe urged that the Three Weeks should be a time of increased Torah study and giving of charity– in keeping with the verse,4 "Zion shall be redeemed by law, and her returnees by charity." Particularly, the Rebbe requested time and again the study of those portions of Torah that deal with the building of the Holy Temple.
The Three Weeks should be a time of increased Torah study and giving of charityWhy these laws? The Rebbe based his request on a dialogue, cited in the Midrash,5that transpired after G‑d told the ProphetEzekiel to instruct the then exiled Jewish People about the measurements and design of the third Holy Temple:
"Master of the world," Ezekiel replied, "why are You telling me to go and tell Israel the form of the House; they are now in exile in the land of our enemies—is there anything they can do about it? Let them be until they return from the exile. Then, I will go and inform them."
G‑d answered: "Should the construction of My House be ignored because My children are in exile? The study of the design of the Holy Temple as detailed in the Torah can be equated to its actual construction. Go tell them to study the form of the Holy Temple. As a reward for their study and their occupation with it, I will consider it as if they actually built the Holy Temple."
It is our generation in particular, that stands on the threshold of Redemption, that must study these laws with the awareness that these laws will be quite practical in the imminent future!

From Destruction to Renewal
But there is more to the Three Weeks than fasting and lamentation. The prophet describes the fasts as "days of goodwill before G-d"-days of opportunity to exploit the failings of the past as the impetus for a renewed and even deeper bond with G-d. A sense of purification accompanies the fasting, a promise of redemption pervades the mourning, and a current of joy underlies the sadness. The Ninth of Av, say our sages, is not only the day of the Temple's destruction--it is also the birthday of Moshiach.
May we soon merit the fulfillment of the prophecy: "I will turn their mourning into joy and will comfort them and make them rejoice from their sorrow" (Jeremiah 31:12).

FOOTNOTES 1. This is based on the verse (Lamentations 1:3) which states: "All of [Israel's] pursuers overtook her between the straits." The Sages (Eichah Rabbah 1) explained that "between the straits" refers to the days of affliction between the seventeenth of Tammuz and the ninth of Av.
2. The only exception being that in many communities – including Chabad – we don't recite the Shehecheyanu even on Shabbat.
3. If the 9th of Av falls on Shabbat (or if Shabbat is on the eve of the 9th of Av) there are certain mourning observances practiced in private—though this doesn't interfere with the public festive atmosphere. Click here for the details.

Travel
Posted: Oct 27, 2011 Technically, one may travel during this period. It is customary to avoid dangerous situations as well as frivolous entertainment. Thus, a pleasure cruise would be inappropriate--especially during the first 9 days of Av--but a necessary business trip would be permitted.

Aho Beloved White Buffalo Calf Woman, I bow in respect and in honor, I bless the sacred nine streams and the four holy directions, I bless myself, I bless you, I bless the world.
So, do you mean to start dancing on the 10th and end on the 16th, when you said to dance for three days before during and after? Or do you mean 3 days total, as in the? 12th, 13th and 14th? I really want to try and dance the whole time (well, at least one hour or more each night of the ghost walk) .
Thank you for your time and for your patience.
~lets dance, lets prance, lets let our hair down and take a chance. Let's bless them all through and through, let's answer their call and be their view. What if it was me? What if it was you? Wouldn't you like to be answered too? Wouldn't it be nice to once again have a view? Wouldn't you love to feel love true? Wouldn't you hope that the warriors heard you. And blessed you so, you could pass on through. Aho, and remember, we're spirits too. On the inside, our spirit lives true. Don't forget all our family, depending on us too. Maybe all they want, is one more word or two. We'll bless all that dark, heavenly hue. ~

However if LOVE doesn't lead the way, then we fight to unite LOVE, two broken hearts, then we know that we are walking the truth path, the love to each other, the kind that lasts, over rolling hills in time, over the suns, and into the heart of the blue seas of everyone. We are the Prophecy, the Rain upon the Land, so parched, it will need a Rainbow, to serve it home the right way and know where to land (the Rainbow always lands on the pot of gold, abundance, brotherhood)!

Aho beloved grandchildren of my heart. I just wanted to send you love and thanksgiving this morning for all your gifts of love. I am so grateful for you.
Love is shared and hearts are healed, it is the way when a song is trilled. The overflowing comes forth in a greatful gush, and rhythm of rhyme is as morning mush. A great fragrant bowl-full of porridge to share, warm and gooey with raisins to spare. Break your fast with thanksgiving of grace, and joy is then gifted to each little face.
Love to all above to sing and all below to find their wings.
Blessings to the sacred nine streams, I send you my love to hold all the dreams.

"According to the Chinese Five Element Astrology Calendar, 2013 is the Year of Water Snake. The color of Water in Five Elements system is related to Black. Therefore we can say 2013 is a Black Snake, Water Snake or Black Water Snake year."Chinese Astrology is a Balance Theory of Five Elements. Each animal can be converted into Five Elements. Snake contains mainly Fire. It also contains some Metal and Earth. Snake is in the Fire group. Water of 2013 and Fire of Snake are opposite elements. Therefore most of people will experience mix of good and bad fortune."
"Snake is the 6th animal in the Chinese horoscope order sequence. Six (6) is an even number, Chinese horoscope treats Snake is a Yin (female) animal. However, Snake contains Male Fire, Male Metal and Male Earth. The outside of Snake looks soft, but the inside is tough. Male Metal in the Snake is very special. Metal's mother element is Earth and Earth's mother element is Fire. Snake is a birth place of Male Metal. Male Metal will become mature when the Autumn comes. If there are Chicken and Cow in the birth chart, then Male Metal will become very active during the Fall season. Since Fire and Metal are opposite elements, people's fortune may start to change direction after Summer."
2013 is Year of the Snake and it will arrive on February 4, 2013. (Note: Chinese New Year Day is on February 10, 2013. The first day of 2013 Chinese Astrology Year is on February 4, 2013.) Many people are eager to know if they will have better luck in the forthcoming year than previous years. Here, we want to use Chinese Astrology's Five Elements (Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth) theory to explain people's fortune in 2013 and foresee what will happen in their lives in the Water Snake year.
According to the Chinese Five Element Astrology Calendar, 2013 is the Year of Water Snake . The color of Water in Five Elements system is related to Black. Therefore we can say 2013 is a Black Snake, Water Snake or Black Water Snake year.
Chinese Astrology is a Balance Theory of Five Elements. Each animal can be converted into Five Elements. Snake contains mainly Fire. It also contains some Metal and Earth. Snake is in the Fire group. Water of 2013 and Fire of Snake are opposite elements. Therefore most of people will experience mix of good and bad fortune.
Water Snake is Fire under Water. Snake is a clam, shy, cautious and low-key animal in Chinese Horoscope. Snake won't attack its opponent, unless it's disturbed or hungry. If Fire is not your favorite element, then you should keep a distance from Fire in 2013. Otherwise, if you fool with Fire, then you may get burn.
Snake is the 6th animal in the Chinese horoscope order sequence. Six (6) is an even number, Chinese horoscope treats Snake is a Yin (female) animal. However, Snake contains Male Fire , Male Metal and Male Earth . The outside of Snake looks soft, but the inside is tough. Male Metal in the Snake is very special. Metal's mother element is Earth and Earth's mother element is Fire (added below). Snake is a birth place of Male Metal. Male Metal will become mature when the Autumn comes. If there are Chicken and Cow in the birth chart, then Male Metal will become very active during the Fall season. Since Fire and Metal are opposite elements, people's fortune may start to change direction after Summer.
Snake is a no-limb animal with fork-like tongue. Although, Snake uses its tongue to smell, people don't like the spitting tongue which is associated with mouth action, possibly argumentation. Therefore, the Snake has the potential to hurt people relationship, especially, when Tiger and Monkey are around.
2012 Year of Black Dragon was the last year of Wood cycle. 2013 Snake year is the beginning year of the Fire cycle (Snake, Horse and Sheep). If people's lucky element is Wood, then their fortune will slow down. If the people's lucky element is Fire, then their fortune will begin to take off. The energy of Wood is on the East side. The energy of Fire is on the South side. The Element's Luck is turning from East (Wood) to South (Fire) in 2013.
Before predicting your luck in 2013, you have to know what Type of Element you are and what your Lucky Element is from your Astrology Birth Chart. The Lucky Element is the major factor to determine people's fortune. 2013 is the Year of the Black Water Snake, which contains Fire, Metal and Earth. If your Lucky Element is Fire, Metal or Earth, then 2013 will bring you some degree of fortune. Since 2013 is Water Snake year, people whose lucky element is Water will obtain fortune in 2013. Fire is the opposite element of Water. People whose lucky element is Fire can get some benefits, however, will reach the limitation. http://www.chinesefortunecalendar.com/2013ChineseHoroscope.htm

The first day of the 2013 Chinese New Year is on February 10, 2013 in China's time zone. This day is a new moon day, and is the first day of the first Chinese lunar month in the Chinese Lunar Calendar system. The exact new moon time is at 15:21 on 10-Feb-13 in China's time zone.
The Year 2013 is the 4710th Chinese year. The Chinese believe that the first king of China was the Yellow King (he was not the first emperor of China). The Yellow King became king in 2697 B.C., therefore China will enter the 4710th year on February 10, 2013. Also, the Chinese Year uses the cycle of 60 Stem-Branch counting systems and the Black Water Snake is the 30th Stem-Branch in the cycle. Since (60 *78) + 30 = 4710, therefore 2013 is the Water Snake year, which is the 4710th Chinese Year.
Some web sites say the year 2013 is the 4711th Chinese year. If you cannot find the explanation as to why, here is a possible answer for you. The Yellow King's inauguration was held in the spring of 2697 B.C. But the day that was used as the first day of the year was the winter solstice, which was around December 23rd, 2698 B.C. Today's January 1st meant nothing to the Yellow King. If we count that extra eight days in 2698 B.C., then year 2013 is the 4711th Chinese year.
2013 is the year of Snake. Some people say 2013 is a Black Snake or Water Snake year. This is because the Stem-Branch Calendar is connected to the Five Element theory. Chinese calendars used the Stem-Branch system to count the days, months and years. There are 10 Stems and 12 Branches in this system. Stems are named by the Yin-Yang and Five Elements (Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth). The Stem sequence order is Yang Wood, Yin Wood, Yang Fire, Yin Fire, Yang Earth, Yin Earth, Yang Metal, Yin Metal, Yang Water and Yin Water. Branches use animal names.
The Branch sequence order is Rat, Cow, Tiger, Dragon, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Chicken, Dog and Pig. Stem and Branch are used together to form a cycle of 60 counting systems which begin with Wooden Rat and end with Water Pig. You can see the entire sequence from the Chinese New Year's page. From 1924 to 1983 is a complete cycle. Year 2013 is Female Water Snake the 30th of the Stem-Branch in the system. Because Water is connected to Black in the Five-Element system, Year 2013 is also called the Black Snake year.
Chinese call a snake is a little dragon. They said a dragon fell down from the sky and then became a snake. Therefore, Snakes have Dragon's body without scale and cannot fly. Dragon is the 5th animal in the Chinese horoscope order sequence. Snake is the 6th animal in the Chinese horoscope. Dragon is the big brother of Snake. Snake is shame to be on the ground. Snake becomes a clam, shy, cautious and low-key animal. Snake won't attack its opponent, unless it's disturbed. As long as we don't fool with Snake, we won't get bitten.
Snake has the ability to swallow an animal bigger than its size. So we cannot underestimate snake's ambitious. We shouldn't ignore the existence of Snake. Snake is a no-limb animal with fork-like tongue. Chinese treat that spitting tongue as a sign of argument. Actually, Snake uses its tongue to smell (nose, knows, over the rainbow bridge, red road. note by wbcw). But in the Chinese zodiac, the Snake implies the potential trouble of libel, dispute or slander.
In Chinese mythology, Nu-Wa 女媧had human head with serpent body. She existed in the beginning of the world. She felt lonely. Then she created chickens on a New Moon day, created dogs on the second day, created sheep on the third day, created pigs on the fourth day, created cows on the fifth day, created horses on the sixth day and created humans on the seventh day. That's why the 7th day of Chinese New Year Festival is called The Human Day.
Nu-Wa made a big contribution to repair the sky and stop the flood. During the dogfight between the Fire of God and the Water of God, the sky had a damaged hole, and fire and flood appears on the ground. Humans and animal faced the big disaster. Nu-Wa used 5-color stones to repair the sky. She also used use giant turtle and dragon to stop the flood.
With the permission of Heaven, Nu-Wa's companion, Fu-Xi became her husband. Fu-Xi had a snake body too. Fu-Xi is the one who invented I-Ching philosophy. They are worshiped as the ancestor of all humankind. Chinese are their descendants. A Dragon falls down from the Heaven, will become a Snake. Snake back to the Heaven will return its Dragon body. So Chinese say they are the Dragon's offspring.
2013 is a Black Snake Year. The color of Black is in Yin, cold and dark side. In Chinese opera, bad, tough or evil guys usually wear in black. They are always supporting roles in the story. Therefore, there is no popular legend about Black Snake. But there is a White Snake legend prevailing thousand of years in China. White Snake legend is a love and tragic story between a White Snake and a man. The detail story is at the page of The Legend of White Snake. Many versions of White Snake movies were made for decades. The latest one is The Sorcerer and The White Snake by Jet Li in 2011. Jet Li acted as the monk fighting with the lady of White Snake.
Ancient Chinese treated the two-headed Snake is a sign of bad omens. A bad luck will arrive whoever saw a two-headed snake, because that is a symbol of imperfection and deformity. They might kill it and buried it when they found one. Today people treat two-headed Snakes are rare and valuable pets. (watch video)
Chinese New Year Festival in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong or Singapore spans 15-day long till New Year Lantern Festival. The detail is at The Celebration of 15-Day Chinese New Year Festivals page.
In China's time zone, the first day of the Water Snake Year is February 4, 2013, because February 4th, 2013 is the first day of Tiger month and the Tiger month is the first month of the year in Chinese Fortune-Telling Calendar system.
In the Chinese Fortune-Telling calendar, the first day of the first month, Tiger month, is called "Start of Spring", which is when the sun enters the 315th degree on the tropical zodiac. In the China's time zone, the time of the Start of Spring is at Feb-04 00:15. So the first day of the Black Snake astrological year 2013 is on 04-Feb-13.
However, the time of the Start of Spring in US Eastern Standard time is at Feb-03 11:15. The Start of Spring time in US Pacific Standard time is at Feb-03 08:15. So the first day of the Black Snake astrological year 2013 is on 03-Feb-13 in US time zones.
The Chinese New Year Day of 2013 is on February 10, 2013. It's about 6 days late after the first day of the astrology calendar in 2013. There is a very common misconception that the astrology animal signs begin on the Chinese New Year day in many Internet sites. Actually, the Astrology animal signs begin from the Start of Spring, the first day of the astrological year. For example, if a baby was born one day the Chinese New Year Day in 2013, then its animal sign is the Snake, not Dragon, because the birthday is after the Start of Spring. If you are still confused about your animal sign, we have an Animal Sign page for people to verify their Chinese birth year animal signs.
