The programme was launched in March 2008 and since then 50 candidates
have successfully completed the training. TCS Maitree has opened an
Advanced Computer Training Center for this training at MN Banajee
Industrial Home for the Blind at Jogeshwari (W), Mumbai.
If any of you have a visually challenged relative or a friend and want

India Post and British Council are pleased to announce a Letter Writing competition for School children between the age group of 14 and 17 years (Class IX to XII) on Saturday, 30th October 2010.
Letter writing is an art that has been relegated to the background – thanks to the internet & instant technology. However, letter writing gives abundant opportunity for expression of profound thoughts & deep feelings that cannot be so eloquently spoken. With a view to reviving the habit of letter writing among children we are pleased to organise this competition. Three prizes will be announced separately for class IX & X and for class XI & XII.

What is JAWS (Screen Reading Software)?
JAWS, Job Access With Speech , offers comprehensive screen reading capability that enables a blind or visually impaired person to use computers similar to a sighted person.
How does a person with vision impairment use the computer?
1. JAWS helps the blind / VI person in typing by providing speech output through the multimedia speakers. Hence while typing, the person is fully aware of what is being typed. Any key or command pressed is mentioned out loud by the software.
2. JAWS also alerts the user when any change appears on the screen such as dialog box, menus etc. and enables the user to answer it.
3. JAWS works very well with the standard Windows applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and Internet Explorer,etc. It is a powerful tool that can also be customized for nonstandard products or applications that are available
in the market. The customization has to be done by the trainers/technicians familiar with JAWS.

Dear Friends,
Yesterday only I came to know of a case from a friend of mine which
is very scary. One of his
friends was traveling to UK via Dubai. Unfortunately he was carrying a
packet of Khas Khas which is a commonly used spice in some Indian
curries and sweets. Khas Khas is also known as poppy seed which can be
sprouted to grow narcotics (afeem etc.).
This innocent person did not know that recently the laws in UAE and
other Gulf countries have
been revised and carrying Khas Khas is punishable with minimum 20
years of imprisonment or even worse
with death penalty. Currently, the
person is in a jail in Dubai for the last two weeks. His friends are
frantically trying hard for his release but are finding that this has
become a very very serious case. Lawyers are asking huge fees amounting
to AED 100,000 even to appear in the court to plead for his innocence.
Please forward this email to all you know specially in India. They
should know the seriousness of this matter and should never ever carry
even minutest quantities of the following items when
traveling to Gulf countries:
1. Khas Khas whether raw, roasted or cooked.
2. Paan
3. Beetle nut (supari and its products, e.g. Paan Parag etc.)
The penalties are very severe and it could destroy the life of an
innocent person.
