Hi,
thanks to Shkumbin Saneja from Ati-kos,
I have now access to the main project sq.openoffice.org!


I would like to recruit more people for working on the project.
In fact,we will need about 100 people for the translation of new openoffice.org.
Who wants to help? We should also be talking to schools, universities, etc to recruit new people
to help with the translation.

About one year ago I tried to get involved with the translation of Open Office. At the time I was editor in chief of   PC World Albanian, but I couldn't get nothing done. One of the main problems of OpenOffice localization in Albanian is the very poor quality of translation. Same situation for that matter is in Microsoft office. There is too much dialect in the translation and it looks like English with Albanian words. For my thinking this job needs people that speak correctly modern Albanian.

Examples:

Përkthimi i tekstit, mbikqyrja dhe lekturimi

* Lokalizimi i grafikave, skripteve ose ndonje mediumi tjeter çë përmban tekst t ë dukshëm
* Kompilimi dhe ndertimi i fajleve të lokalizuara për testim
* Kontrollimi i kualitetit gjuh ësor dhe funksional

Poashtu kanë ekzistojnë iniciativa tjera për të lokalizuar softuerin e kodit burimor të hapur, ku vlen të përmenden KDE, GNOME, phpMyAdmin.

I think we need first to make some rules and procedures that should be followed without exception. 

If this happens, I'm in. 

This is one of the most important thinks. Windows was localized by non professionals and it is nearly unusable by the normal Albanian user. 

When I was working in London, the correct English was the primary requirement for any job, and this standard should be even in Albanian speaking countries.

The albanian version is crap, that is true, even for other applications. There is needed a structure to go after this, we are going nowhere with this kind of translation.

I want to contact all the unis with Institutet Albanologjike to help
translate.
each should put 2-5 students on the project to redo the translation of
openoffice into albanian, and set a high standard for the language.

If we do it right, with a spell checker it would be a big boost for
the albanians, especially those who live in kosovo to have a program
that they can use to produce better documents. The quality of most web
sources is very bad, with thousands of spelling mistakes and
abbreviations.

maybe facebook would let us use the translation strings and system

We should contact Robert Elsie, he has donated his writings to
wikipedia, he is on cc.

Can someone help find contacts there?

Also, I would like to find more people to help with the
kosova.wikia.com, a selection of english, german, italian, albanian
wikipedia articles about kosovo and albania. also containing all known
dictionaries of albanian, wikitionary , mspell, aspell and albanian
wordnet. We need more people to review that and we can use it for our
dictionary source.

I think that we first need to have a meeting or online conference about the problem and the ideas to go forward. The GUI of OpenOffice is not that much localization work and I can volunteer my self and supervise the other translators. We need to form a formal decision-making body made up with people that has Albanian language and IT knowledge. If we can get organised I think that I can push some strings with the Albanian government to sustain the project in some way.

If we want to do something good for ones, we should start thinking as professionals. 

As for the Institutes, "forget it", no one is going to come aboard if there is no money.
